I voted the way it was written. Rick is by far the greatest asset. He can orchestrate all the skills for the correct result and keep them together. Randy Pausch stated that a great leader was like Captain Kirk. He didn't answer the phones, he had Uhura, he didn't drive the ship, he had Chekov and Sulu. He didn't make the ship go, Scotty did that. He didn't heal the crew, that was McCoy. He didn't even find stuff out-that was Spock's job. He DID bring them all together and united them to accomplish their missions successfully in a way they couldn't without him...that's leadership!
Shane, as the biggest disruption and challenge towards that goal, is the biggest ass.

True, but Kirk's main priority was to his crew and would never put them intentionally in harms way, Rick however (at this point atleast) would in my opinion sacrifice all the group to save his wife and son. (Not through his own actions like Shane with Otis, but if there was no other option, his family would come first over all.)
You can't question his leadership though and I'm not saying he doesn't have feelings toward the group, but still...
By the way (Just in case) I'm not bashing your opinion as that's what it is, an opinion, just my thoughts on it

For asset I voted Hershal, was a toss up between him Rick (for leadership, but his main concern is family first, the group come 2nd to that) and Daryl (for handiness, hunting and killing) My reason for Hershal is, he knows how to farm, so food would be covered there, granted that they find a safe place and he is still alive (well in the long run since it takes time to grow) and he has medical knowledge being a Doctor (sure, a vet, but he did save Carl from the bullet wound.) Also, he's pretty good at shooting as shown in the finale of the 2nd series.
For ass I chose Merle, although I think the character was a great added dynamic and he wasn't in it for long, if he hadn't been cuffed then fled, he would of caused a lot of mayhem with in the group in my opinion. Also, we most likely wouldn't see Daryl in the role that he is in now, perhaps would have stayed in the background with his brother around.
