Where Was Randall From?

20 June 2012 - 06:54 AM

This thought came to me from the southern accents thread.

I always assumed that Randall was someone his group picked up on the way south, and when he said he knew Maggie from "school", I just assumed that he meant college- which did seem a bit of a far-fetched coincidence, but....

According to Wiki,  he went to High school with Maggie; presumbly local, so it makes sense he would know where the farm is.

But, why did this never come up in the discussion, or any other time? Seems strange, especially given Hersh's fondness for local people.
Even if he didn't know Maggie (and how big a school was it?) surely they would have known who he was; he woud have made some claim to sympathy based on being a neighbor shanghaied by those evil Yankees.

Lifeism: Are you prejudiced against the Walking Dead?

18 April 2012 - 11:46 PM

Racism, sexism, ageism, heightism, lookism- there are many forms of discrimination in our society, but one of the most prevalent is lifeism: bigotry towards some of our fellow citizens simply because their brains have ceased to function and they constantly try to rip our intestines out and eat them. Shockingly, this form of prejudice is widespread even in the 21st Century, and may even have intensified as shambling hordes of the Undead* spread out from the cities and move into our neighborhoods.

Please take the test below to examine your own feelings.

* A note on terminology: While some people feel the term "Undead" unduly privileges the dominant classes of our society - 'the living' and the (tellingly) ' "really"  dead' -by classifying the ( Un)dead's very existence as a negative, we feel the term is sufficiently value-free  and widely-known to be useful. The preferred politically-correct term  is 'post-living people' .

Recently the term "Walker" has been introduced, most notably in the widely-watched documentary series "The Walking Dead", which examines the tensions and conflicts which arise when a group of 'live' people are forced to confront their own prejudices when dealing with the changes introduced in their lifestyles by contact with the Undead. While we laud this attempt to avoid the "Z-word", we would not use the term because

a) it may be construed as prejudicial, implying the Undead are incapable of other forms of motility
b ) it excludes those members of the post-living community who had their legs chewed off by their fellows before their revival.

We note it is a sign of changing standards that, during this entire two-year documentary serial, not even the most hostile member of the living group was willing to use the word "z*****s"- at least not on-camera!

On to the test:

Where was Shane killed?

17 April 2012 - 01:01 AM

Sorry if this has been dealt with elsewhere, but from the end of E12 and the beginning of E13 it seems that they are in the open fields sloping down from the house and barn to the woods (roughly where Dale was killed?).

They are close to the farmhouse, which is how Carl manages to find them, but wouldn't that mean they had doubled around or circled back?

Zombie FedEx commercial

11 March 2012 - 12:21 PM

Season 2.5 just started here in Taiwan on March 8, so I've been avoiding the forum to avoid spoilers, so forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but do any other places show the Walking Dead/Zombie FedEx commercial?

They ran it constantly here during the broadcast and repeats.

(For some reason, from 9:00-10:00 they show the last week's episode, and from 10:00-11:00 the new one, which is good for me, as I don't get home till after 9 p.m.)
