When we finally got to see Negan, we go to see the face of such an insane and badass villain that I think its possible that Robert Kirkman might have painted himself in a corner? Negan and his crew of Saviors have proven to be extremely tough villains to Rick and the other surviviors. I think it will be either impossible or will take a long time for Negan to be topped as a bad guy! Unlike superhero comics, when characters are dead, they stay dead, I dont see Robert Kirkman miraculously making any characters survive in some unrealistic way either? Does anyone else think it will be very hard to top Negan?

At this point yes. The only thing I could think of is if they came across some small reformed "nation" under the rule of a psycho military dictator type figure. But this isn't a super hero comic like you said, or even Resident Evil where the t-virus evolves and gives zombies super weird powers and creates zombie animals and weird super monsters haha.

Seriously, though. With human villains, I think next we should go with a less insane approach.

I either want a villain (beating a dead horse here) who has a hand in everyone's pocket and is always ten steps ahead of everyone. Someone like Gustavo Fring. They could turn the tables on Rick and get a lot of his friends against him. I don't really want another villain with an army. We've been there. I had a more reasonable explanation on "Where to go after All Out War?" but if Ezekiel suffered a lot of casualties during the war, and the Kingdom wasn't doing too great with problems like starvation and dysentery, and Ezekiel loses Shiva and maybe even gets exiled from his own community, HE could be that villain.

We could also have Rick as the villain. Or Carl. A lot of possibilities.

Negans like the most likeable villian thus far, the hillbillies & hunters & thomas & the gov were far worse. Negan tries to be reasonable and doesn't hurt women or children unless they shoot lucy.

Negan will be difficult to top simply because he is so damned entertaining whenever he speaks. It's probably inevitable he dies, but deep down I wish he could just go on the run similar to what the governor did on the tv show.

But since he probably will die, the next main villain will come down to starvation and the elements of nature crippling their food. This leads them to clearing out cities of the dead, and this will lead to a group emerging from bunkers to challenge them for what they just fought for.

I would quite like to see some sort of religious cult, perhaps one that worships the zombies. It would be interesting to see them convert people to their way of thinking, dismantling groups from the inside. It would also be a great storyline for Father Gabriel.

I love this idea, there's a deleted scene from the show where dale hears a christian on the radio and I thought its be cool to explore characters like that.

I'd like to see a long time ally become the next major villian, like sometime long after Negan and this war is finished. Someone like Andrea, Michonne, Maggie, (maybe even Jesus given time), characters who are the core of the series turn against Rick and the Community for whatever reason, whether it be they go insane, mad with power, or whatever.

Maybe Rick becomes the next main villian, and we'll see the other characters become the "good guys" and turn against him (and Carl, because I don't think Carl will ever betray his father, why would he?).

I agree that if there's another major villain in the comics that it should be someone less obviously evil and insane. I don't know that I'd want a villain that is hyper-competent like Gustavo Fring. It seems like Kirkman is kind of going that route with Negan and it comes off as a little unbelievable when he is ten steps ahead of Rick.

Maybe the only reason there would be any conflict would be because Rick's group has food or shelter that the other group needs or vice versa. Sounds like Ezekiel. Just like post World War I, the Kingdom (Germany) gets the crap end of the stick and wants change. Not like I'd be that interested in another villain right after this one and I don't like Ezekiel that much but it could happen.

I was thinking that Ezekiel might become a villain at some point. I thought that Negan would be killed off earlier than expected and Ezekiel would rise to fill the power vacuum. That seems kind of unlikely now, but I could see it happening somewhere down the line.

(Negan for example is an cursing biker/greaser/muscle dude, all badass in his strength....and balding.)

It is sort of cliche, but a slim, goodlooking man in an really wellcut (white) suit would be nice, as an contrast mostly.

Or just someone who as Jesus said, like Gustavo. Someone who is an really scheming tactician and is just diabolical, but still very cool/calm.

Or we could mix all of those things up

and we'd end up with.....uh.....
