What do I think? I don't know. He's definitely an interesting character and we haven't seen someone like him before. Whenever there's an argument about him, I find myself easily swayed by both sides. There seem to be good arguments for liking him and hating him. The forums are divided, much like his face
Anti-Dwight (Why people hate him)
He killed Abraham (-300)
Tried to kill Eugene (-30)
Didn't seem to show much remorse (-20)
Pro-Dwight (Why people sympathize with him)
Got his face burnt (+20)
Negan has Sherry (+40)
Negan isn't the nicest guy (+10)
He's Helping Rick (Maybe) (+50)
Rebuttals for all points
He was acting under orders when he killed Abraham. He was just a stranger to Dwight, remember? And Rick's group killed Dwight's friends. However, it was his choice to have Sherry stay with Negan and he knew what the consequences would be if he tried to be with her again, even though the consequences are way too extreme and sadistic. I don't doubt that Negan would kill Dwight if Dwight said he saw one of Rick's soldiers with a machine gun but he decided not to take him out. If he ends up being a traitor, I hope he gets a death worse than Glenn's.
So, I'm kind of in the middle, leaning more towards not liking him. He did kill Abraham, after all. I can't just forget about that. Even if he actually is on Rick's side, there's one thing I think everyone can agree on. Dwight will not live. Even if he survives the battle, I don't see Rick allowing him to be part of his group after what he's done.
Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

Dwight might have been following orders when he killed Abe, but that was AFTER they attacked Rick first on the road remember?

Ok we all know Saviors are douchebags, but as far as I remember it was rick to strike the first blow. He literally had one of the bikedudes decapitated and when the other one said "negan won't like this" he answered "ask me if I care".
But yea, I guess robert trollman is trying to turn the killer of abraham into a likeable character. Once again, that's how it works in this world, you can't stick to your revenge forever. As far as I am concerned, I like Dwight.

He was acting under orders when he killed Abraham.
People who do this during wartime are still tried, even though it was under someones orders. Overall I really hate Dwight. I don't think I could ever trust him after what he did to Abraham. Also, I hate the smile he gives after he is released from ASZ (I remember PorkTornado mentioning this on another post). The smile just gives me bad vibes from him

I said he killed Glenn, you said it was just revenge and it had to be done
I said he was smiling while he did it, you said that he had to appear tough in front of his community and some people just smile to let their emotions out, the same way some people laugh instead of cry when someone dies
I think you've made some good points but some of it feels like a double standard

While I agree on that...I don't know.I'm siding with PT on this one. It's a malicious smile, not just the "ohoh they let me go" smile.
When I write, I think of the story as a big picture. I have a set of events in my head and I usually fill in the pieces between these events as I go along until I get to the end.
This story doesn't have an end in sight. Now, Kirkman could already have every detail meticulously planned out. We can't be sure. Isn't it possible that when he originally wrote the Savior arc, he didn't intend for Dwight to be Rick's man inside and he was just a character that would lead Jesus to the sanctuary?
Or he could've been written so the readers feel the same way Rick does. We don't like him, it's hard to trust him, but Rick needs him

I am pretty sure he would have killed him.Dwight also threw Carl to the ground, which was understandable since he just killed some people, but then proceeded to kick him and I have no doubt he would've beaten up the kid badly if Negan didn't intervene. He could've possibly killed him

1. Rick: Shot Dexter and took over the prison, Threatened Nicholas' rebellion, Killed a member of the hilltop within like 20 mins of arriving there, and Attempted to extort the Saviors upon their first meeting. So RickName one that has attacked multiple community's to strong arm them and use fear to make their lives hell.
Name one that has pulled a pussy move like shooting someone in the back.
Name one murder that was not out of self defense ?
2. Rick: Rick ran a man down with a car and then choked him while he was crippled.
3. Rick: Rick shot Pete Andersen while he was on the ground unarmed and being held down by Spencer, which frankly seemed punishment enough to me.
So yeah, Rick.
Didn't beat up any kids, though he shoots a lot of them on T.V.

1.Dexter threatens to kill them first and kick them out of the prison effectively killing them = self defense1. So Rick

2.Nick threatened kill Rick first to take over ASZ/ beats Glen, holds him at gun point / points gun at heath = self defense
3.Rick killed Ethan after he stabbed Gregory a few feet from him = protecting someone/self defense
4. Saviors tried to extort them first ( see pages posted above)
5. Rick killed Martinez to stop him from reveling the location of the prison to the Governor = protecting people/self defense
6. Pete Anderson was a child beater and fist fought with Rick only to pull a knife killing Regina Monroe and killing him with Douglas`s approval = protecting someone/self defense
So IMO Rick dont fit the bill.
