The relationship that Michonne had in with her pet walkers in the comic book are obviously different from the ones in the TV series. I can only hope we get a better sense of where she was going with that...

This has been touched on somewhere in another thread but I think that either they raped or tried to rape her or perhaps were convicted for such crimes. If she WAS a lawyer, she may have sought them out after having had them acquitted at trial, later to find out they were bad. My mind is busy tonight, so that may not have made a lot of sense.
