Carl-Shot, shot in the face, is a kid, mother and sister died in front of him, killed someone close to him, killed good friend.
Sophia-Is a kid, father killed himself, mother killed herself, new father died.
Maggie-Entire family is dead. Husband is dead
Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

But if you're talking about characters who are still alive, I'd say Maggie.
Carl's been through a lot, sure, but he still has his father and he loves Andrea. I do feel terrible for Sophia, because she seems to recognize her mental tear and that's tough. But she's a kid and kids are tough. She'll recover.
I think Maggie is winning the angst race right now.
I'd also throw Father Gabriel into the mix. This is a guy who gave his whole life to God, followed the teachings of God. Yet when push came to shove God wasn't there for him, and he cast God aside. A lot of people died due to his shaking faith. Now he's so desperate to get that faith back. I wonder if deep down he knows there is no God but he can't let go because it's all he knows. I wish Kirkman would show us more Father Gabriel. I find him really interesting.

i agree with you and don't forget he killed his g/f and let her son die also, or made mistakes an got someone killed. And his wife was having his "boys" kid most likely.Rick...he gets his hand cleaved off, has been shot on more than one occasion, watched his wife and daughter get blown away in front of him, had to abandon her to save Carl, who later got shot in the head losing an eye...all the while wondering when someone else will betray him to his enemy or murder a close friend in front of him. Oh, and his wife cheated on him...

He may have been indirectly responsible for their deaths by telling them to walk through the horde but Ron was dead the moment he got bitten and Jessie was long gone by the time Rick cut off her hand. It was either Carl and her, or just Carli agree with you and don't forget he killed his g/f and let her son die also, or made mistakes an got someone killed. And his wife was having his "boys" kid most likely.

Rick by miles. His wife slept with his best friend, there's a strong possibility his daughter belongs to his (former) best friend, his wife was cut open and shot in the head by his son, he sees the ghost of his dead wife, he imagines a phone ringing during a ZA... The guy has lost his mind.
That would be TV Rick, I believe this is a discussion about comic characters

Maggie and Sophia are also close.
Let's not forget what Abraham went through though, personally that hit me hard.
Any time in a story where a character is forced to watch something horrible like Abrahams son had to is just vile.
Then losing his entire family shortly afterwards. Goddamn.

Why do people confuse the show and the comic?Rick by miles. The Governor is up there for sure. If any of you have read the novels then you understand the enormous amounts of trauma Blake went through that leads to his mental breakdown and becoming TG. Not to mention, he's the most mutilated character in the entire series.
You got a good point here!!! The first novel even accomplished the feat of making me feel sympathy for that bastard! But when he snaps, he snaps...
