He knew Shane killed Otis before the others did.
Could Daryl be offed in the last episode of the season? Of course. It's possible.
But not likely.
Not one week after the death of his brother.
Plus Daryl is the most popular character of the show. I can't see the writers destroying that connection right now. Maybe when the series comes to a conclusion, but not now.

I think most definitely Daryl knows what happened. The fact Merle let Mischone go and then the devestation, you could hardly really get it wrong if you were Daryl.
I also think that, although Merle died, and Daryl really didn't get his brother back in the end, he kind of did. The man he knew before all this wasn't a killer so much as he might make out, and in his death he returned to the person he perhaps once was and that is more than a little redeeming in death.
I so think that the Gov. has made an even bigger enemy, but I am not certain that Daryl could know it was the Gov who shot Merle, but will blame him for the entire situation regardless and no doubt the Gov will tie up any lose ends for Darly later and someone will tell us for sure what Merle did and conclude him as some what of a "good guy" for sure in the end.
I don't see Daryl dying. I'm not even sure I see the Gov. dying. I sort of imagine a lot of injuries, the Gov losing everything he has, which is more devestating than death. Although, a Gov. zombie might make for a final shot.

I agree. I just wish Daryl was able to see the change in his brother before the end. I don't think Daryl is going to die in the finale, or the Guv for that matter. I agree with you that the Guv may lose his followers and power. Maybe once Andrea gets out of that chair, she is gonna show the people who the Guv really is. I actually really hope that other people of Woodbury may come together against the Guv and his men and maybe take back the town with Andrea in the lead. Perhaps Rick and co. will go there to live? That would be a twist. Speculation really.I agree it was sad to see Merle go, but I think a few things....

Although it is possible, it would be really rushed to do that in one episode only.Any thoughts on maybe Daryl goes after the Governor on his own, is captured and gets Tyreese's comic death next week?

I don't think it will happen either. Just something that tumbled around in my brain. Agree on the popularity of the character. Daryl's popularity is probably what made that scene the epic scene that it was. Rick's reaction to Lori's death hit me too, but nothing like Daryl last night. My wife was straight up weeping.

I initailly thought, like kombat, tha Daryl would go after the Guv but that would leave Rick high and dry in defending the group. But then again he did tell Michonne to not let anyone come looking for him so that could be an obvious lead in to premptively answer the "why didn't Rick go looking for him?" questions that would occur if Daryl temporarly split from the group. God, if he and Tyreese play the "Andrea/Michonne" role next year I will be pissed.

In the boiler room or whatever Daryl asked for his brother back, he never got him back, until that moment.

I think he goes back to the only family he has left. Considering the distance and the fact that he knows TG's attack is imminent and TG will be driving, there is an economy of time and motion problem I have with Daryl trying to go to Woodbury.
^this, but I will take it a step further and forward the possibility of "immediate" instead "imminent". There is a chance TG is so pissed he immediately leaves for the prison (despite given the previews, we believe that isn't the case).

Daryl told Merle he wanted his brother back - not from TG but back into his life. I think Daryl was acknowledging to Merle and to himself that Merle has been gone for a lot longer than from when he was handcuffed on the roof. Merle has been "gone" since they were children. Merle ran from their home and left Daryl to fend for himself; Merle's choices of drug and alcohol abuse were just another way that Merle was "gone." Daryl wanted Merle to man up and BE there. Merle just couldn't do it. Daryl knows that, hence the heartbreak.
As much as you love someone, you can't make their choices for them. Daryl knew Merle was on the road to nowhere. Daryl did everything he could to save Merle from himself but in the end, Merle was unsaveable, by his own choice. "The only thing that can kill Merle is Merle."

No matter his past, that's redemptive and heroic in my book.
I still hope Andrea gets to kill the Governor. But Daryl is now my 2nd choice, backup in case Andrea is too wounded to pull the trigger.

Daryl will piece together what happened. He will be proud of what Merle tried to do but angry at Merle for making all of the bad decisions that led to his death.
^^ This. I think anger and sorrow at Merle's choice to go it alone yet again was what caused the overkill when Daryl dispatched walker Merle, not resentment over childhood wrongs.

Daryl didn't have to track worth two shits. He knew where Merle was going once he found Michonne walking back. He was hoping to catch up to them before they found a car or other mode of transportation. Once he sees Michonne and she lets him know that no she didn't kill him... he knew. He knew where to go and probably what he was about to find. I think the scene was blown up by the Walker part, to have Merle killed and on the ground would have been one thing, but to see his brother feeding on a dead person as a Zee is what put him over the edge.
In the boiler room or whatever Daryl asked for his brother back, he never got him back, until that moment.
I agree that Daryl had probably already figured out Merle's intentions by the time he arrived at the scene. Once he learned that Merle had released Michonne but still proceeded to the drop off point without her, he must have realized that his brother could have had only one thing in mind -- and that was to kill the Governor. I'm not sure that Daryl was necessarily expecting to find his brother dead (or even worse, a walker), although he must have feared the possibility.
I was wondering why Daryl reacted so violently to Merle's corpse, stabbing him multiple times. Was it just anger and frustration that he'd been reunited with his brother only to loose him again in this horrible way? Maybe he was also frustrated because he knew that his brother had finally tried to do the "right" thing, but had died for it.

I think he was angry at the world, angry that this happened, and was just letting it all out. Kind of like when Rick repeatedly stabbed the bloated walker that ate Lori.

I was surprised at how "dead" Merle's face looked. Since he had just died, I thought he would look more normal except for the emptiness in his eyes. I wonder how long it was until Daryl got there.
They said they made Merle like that an had him turn so quickly was because he had just gotten the shit kicked out of him an was all messed up when he died
