I get the sense that the guv essentially trusts no-one. Without knowing his history with the individual Woodburians, it seems like the guv, despite his brash ego, is an insecure fellow, and control freak. What prompted me to start this topic was, when he asked Milton to help Andrea, hear me out for a second. Milton outwardly appears loyal, however I think alarm bells went off in his head when Milton revealed Andrea's plan. He knows Andrea is impressionable, and he clearly questions her loyalty. IMO he is thinking," why would Andrea ask for Milton to help her? Does Andrea see a weakness in Milton that she can exploit?" Let's face it, he has exploited Milton's introverted nature.
Merle had to be one of his closest henchmen, and look where that got him? Down to to one eye, and less one creepy, walkers daughter. Most Woodburians likely think the guv is a great guy and takes care of the town, they don't see the tiger's true stripes. I don't think he trusts them, he just believes in their naivete.

So............. Who does Philip trust????

.. Who does he trust? Himself that's who! Who put that thing together? He did!😆

Montana refrence side, The Gov trust no one.
* And I thimk it was incredibly selfish of Andera to put Milton's life in jeopardy for HER friends. Not surprised though.

Judging by the lack of trials for them, I'd say the Governor trusts Martinez and Shupert. Or maybe they're not important enough for the viewers to see how the Governor is testing them. Or hell, maybe he realizes they're blind idiots with no minds of their own and doesn't bother, because let's face it, as long he's alive, Martinez and Shupert will show loyalty.

Alternatively, you could also just call me Soiled_Panties, on account of how pissy I can be.

Nobody. I don't think he even trusts himself anymore.

The governor does have a small inner circle of people he relies on. But in the end, he trusts no one. He would easily get rid of members of his inner circle if it suited him. And Milton knows this. Milton will keep siding with the Governor because it is to his advantage. But in the end he will not sink with him.

Milton plays Igor to TG's Frankenstein. But I don't think he actually trusts anyone completely. And I'm not sure his "soldiers" are aware of the true reason they're killing for him. If they find out.... We may see a revolution. Were there others, aside from Milton and Merle, who we've seen hearing the truth from him?

As I've posted before, I think Merle gave orders to the troops based on whatever reasoning TG told him to use. The dead chopper pilot confessed? Said his guys were coming to conquer WB? We need to kill them before they hurt our people?

When the writers leave SO much to imagination, it's not difficult to come up with one's own scenario. lol.

Exactly. TG is a paranoid sociopath. He trusts no one and tests those who are close to him constantly, looking for signs of betrayal. Let's face it - he's a long time passenger on the train to Crazytown. Milton knows TG is nuts; Milton is such a coward that he doesn't care. As long as TG keeps Milton safe, Milton will continue to lick his boots and pander to his every whim.

I was about to write "Martinez", but actually after having read the posts above I have to agree: he trusts no one.

And he's paranoic, and in the end he will have to pay for that
