I wish that after hearing what they did about Michonne and Andrea from Merle there would have been a conversation between the group and her! I find it unbelievable that they heard all that and then apparently didn't inquire for any more details. Maybe ask her about why she kept two pets? How she met up with Andrea? Stuff like that. I'm getting the feeling that they group is accepting her, heck Glenn trusts her enough to want to go to Woodbury with her watching his back...but I can't help but ask: why? Why do you trust her? Have there been some bonding moments we haven't seen?

I do think she made a step in the right direction this episode though. At least she helped Hershel out, and obviously picked a side.

What exactly was she doing out by that bus all day, anyway? Keeping watch? Or is she just so uncomfortable within the walls of the prison that she prefers to lounge outside?

To me, her hanging out by the bus is a compromise for Rick's sake. He doesn't even want her around at all, and after the little Lori-sighting in the previous episode, she may just figure it's safer outside. So, she hangs out there and waits to earn their trust, or something.

Emphasis on "or something."

She is intended, perhaps, to be enigmatic, an archetype if you will.

I like Michonne, but I want to shake her like a little kid and say, "use your words!!" I think the strong, silent crap is getting old at this point.

The prison is under attack and people are dropping like flies. If she's gonna be with them, then BE WITH THEM. She was better this past week, but her inability to answer basic questions is ridiculous. It's not like Rick and them are being extremely invasive either. They're in a ZA and have been burned by newcomers before. It's completely understandable. So far, Michonne's been lying by omission. So many things could get cleared up if she just opened her mouth. The writers must think it creates angst when it's really just annoying.

Also, another character that's been adapted and destroyed by blank stares is Mulan on Once Upon a Time. She's way worse than Michonne. She talks more but just shoots glares at everyone. She's very one-note. It's such a waste of a badass character.

Fellow lurkers I'm pray I'm wrong but maybe the writers can't or are afraid to come up with realistic dialogue from black characters. I mean none of them say anything, not t-dog(by the way after months in close quarters nobody know his real name),not the big dude working with the governor or michonne. I love the way tyreese has been introduced so hopefully it'll get better, but for me this seems like a trend.

I'm still on the fence regarding Michonne. I want to love her, but she hasn't translated well into television.

What makes Michonne so great in the comics is that she has this tough exterior, badass bitch facade, but right away in the comics Kirkman shows us that Michonne is really lonely, flawed, and sad. Even in the last issue we saw a scene where Michonne once again showed how desperate she really is for human contact, but puts on this "ice queen" mask to keep people at bay.

TV Michonne has failed in this regard. Comic Michonne was actually emotionally attached to her walker pets because they were her boyfriend and her boyfriend's BFF. On the show, her walker pets were just nothing. I cringed when Andrea confronted her about the walkers and Michonne said that killing them was "easier than you think." That, to me, was like: "okay, another comic character ruined by Mazzara. Here we go."

Had comic Michonne spent so many months with Andrea in the woods, she NEVER would've left Andrea behind with the Governor and walked away like a bitch saying, "you'd only slow me down." Comic Michonne would've done everything, said everything, and fought against hell to save Andrea from Woodbury. TV Michonne doesn't give a shit about her best friend.

Let's face it, these writers can't write women. Let alone black women. Michonne is just a victim of the writing. I just really hope Gimple can step up and really bring this character to life but I have no hope for these women anymore.

I felt that there was emotion when Michonne said "easier than you think." When she said that I right away thought "that was really difficult for her to do but survival comes first". The problem for me, is that they were never mentioned again so it made me rethink the scene and wonder if they really did want her to not care about them at all. If that was the case, I don't know why she seems kind of emotional when she said that. Wasted potential to develop her character.

Yeah, I felt the same way as you, totally. When she said it I remember calling bullshit.

But then there was no follow up and there never will be.

I don't wanna be an annoying nitpicky fan, but I seriously miss the character development of season 1. I feel like Darabont was amazing at delving into the characters' psyches while giving us the right amount of action. S1 also gave us great minority characters like Jacquie, Morales and his family and kids, T-Dog, the Vatos. Darabont also treated the side characters with such respect. Even asshole Ed. All the characters were SO human and real in season 1. Christ, JIM! Jim was AMAZING.

This season I feel like Mazzara is just trying to shove Crazy Rick, Mary Sue Daryl, and Hot Maggie down my throat and it tastes like shit. Mazzara is the last person on Earth who should write such an amazingly complex character like Michonne. I'm just praying Gimple gets her.

I would rather her stay silent than be like everyone else and throw a temper tantrum/power trip whenever something significant happens, since there seems to be no middle ground for these characters apart from Rick, Herschel, and (dart I say) Carl.

I can appreciate that, but why does she always have one "-.-" face? Can't she be more the...doesn't speak much, but thinks about things a lot type? Instead of coming accross as a total idiot?

I agree that she's not translating well from the comics, and it seems it could be handled better......I'm hoping she and Rick will connect, that could be an opportunity to offer a little more insight, and depth. I still like the character, though......yeah, maybe she could say more, but I don't really see it making much difference......Andrea's seen all kinds of crap in Woodbury now, and still doesn't quite get it.......and she just met Rick and crew.......she doesn't know they're the protagonists, like we do, she's making judgment calls on the fly. I will be patient for now.

I also miss the Frank Darabont days :(

The "strong silent" type is considered "silent", by most, because they rarely, if ever, initiate the random mundane small talk bullshit that most people believe is necessary in any given professional or personal interaction.

I don't expect her to say shit like "How did you sleep?" or "It's a lovely day don't you think?" or "Are you doing O.K.? Can I get you anthing?".

The "strong silent type" usually reserve their interactive energies for shit that is actually important....like encountering a village of folks lead by a dude that kills people and keeps zombie heads in aquariums.

The way they have portrayed Michonne so far has not worked for me.

Sadly, I am not surprised.

Did anybody notice when rick went outside the gates n michonne was watching him. Idk but I saw that look on her sort of like she understands. I think michonne will connect with rick on a emotional level. I sense a conversation of their losses and struggles in the future. Somehow I think she is mourning someone or people during her lead up to saving andrea. I agree her portrayal has been iffy, but I won't give up on her. I see potential that she will become a strong loyal asset to this group n I can see her aiding rick with his mental state.

I have never watched the comics so cant compare TV Michonne to Comic Michonne.

Personally I find nothing wrong with the way she is portrayed. Does she stay silent too often - yeah definetely. Do I think she should tone down the crazy glares - sure. But I find all this part of Michonnes character - she may not be the way I want her to be or the group want or need her to be but I think she is a real character - I mean everyone has reacted differently to the ZA and I find it totally believable that she could be so hard assed. She did spend a lot of time on her own with only Walkers for company.

I agree with kataurmayor - I think Michonne is dealing with some loss she is struggling to handle, maybe even the Walkers that were pets she put down - I feel like we will get an explanation at some point.

Dropping out of trees and cutting people in half when its 3 with guns vs 1 with a sword is a different matter... They do need to tone down the invincible warrior stuff, I mean with Walkers thats fair enough, theyre dumb and slow and someone with a Katana who can use it would make quick work of rotting corpses but at least they showed her in a weak state when she went to recuperate at the prison.

Thats my take on Michonne anyway.

I believe Michonne will be a much more important character once andrea is reintroduced to the prison group.

Since Michonne has only been around Rick's group for around 24 hours - probably less - I'm not expecting a lot of conversation from her yet. She doesn't really know these people. She's probably heard some things from Andrea, but they have all changed since Andrea was separated from them 8 months ago. She has observed enough to figure out that they are good people and want to help them, but she also knows that they don't fully trust her and Rick is planning on kicking her out as soon as Hershel says she's fit to travel. She told them what she knows about the governor because that was important, but she's not going to start sharing personal info until she's actually part of the group and more comfortable with them. And even then, I doubt Michonne would turn into Chatty Cathy overnight. I think Michonne is the type who prefers to keep the past in the past and focus on the present.

She's still settling in. She was able to survive on her own for awhile and the fact that she asked Rick if she can say says a lot. Although Rick is going insane and was sketchy of her first, he sees her value to the group and he actually likes that she keeps to herself and pulls her own weight. Her being quiet is just who she is. She's a badass not really a soft women. Yeah she showed sympathy for Andrea and built a relationship with her. I think in time, Rick will have full trust with Michonne. She'll open up more for sure but don't expect the happy positive women. She's living in a apocalypse.

At least in the comic Michonne talked to herself! ;)

Nah, I'm not nearly as bugged by Michonne sa many people seem to be. I'd rather deal with 17 hours of Michonne silence then even 10 seconds of Andreas head swiveling, smug cuntiness. Boy did they fuck up her character from the comic something fierce, dear lord.

It's just bad writing (or storytelling or editing) - doesn't make logical sense. One of the fun things about this setup is putting yourself in their postion and asking "what would I do?" In the comics, nine of ten times I agree with the characters. in the TV show, I agree about one out of 10 times.

Comics == Prison is perfect. Safe, fortifide, weapons, laundry, food, motor pool.
TV Show == dank, dark, sweaty.

If you don't establish a value to the prison, why should they fight to keep it?

I would think Michonne heard all about Andreas group, but then again - we never saw any of that interaction. Wouldn't it have made sense to start the season with Michonne and Andrea? What are you doing out here? "Oh, I was with a group at this farm...." Instead, we skip ahead six months with Andrea saying "I saved your ass plenty of times." Really? That might have made a good TV show....

I'm hoping there will be some mutual healing between Michonne and Rick. It would be a good way to bring him back from the brink - and to start her talking. But since only hours or days go by between episodes, that could take until next season.

IMO, Michonne knows all about the group. Andrea told her in Woodbury that Michonne knew everything about her, but she knew nothing about Michonne. She probably ran her mouth the entire time they plodded through the woods.

For me, they need to either insert a crowbar into Michonne's mouth or drop her. Perhaps, after this attack, she'll finally heave a big sigh and decide to tell all she knows about Woodbury and its people.

Let's hope Merle will also be useful in that regard. All this bs with closed mouths is beyond unbelievable. Are the writers finally at a place where they can open the floodgates?

I think she just needs time to trust the group more, we know she's good with that Katana, and can wipe out a load of zombies quickly. So she has some use, but personally I think she will have her time when everybody realises her 'badassness' she's one of my favourite characters at the moment, can't wait till she comes out of her shell. Also Rick isn't exactly welcoming her with open arms is he? She has no reason to be nice or happy. :wallmad:

and ESPECIALLY this...Posted Image

But I'm glad I'm not alone. I like Michonne's badass factor but if she's a goddamn mute half the time it makes her character's winning quality become undermined and under-appreciated, although keep in mind I'm speaking on my own view of her in that aspect. She should be taking charge of certain situations, IMO. However, I have not read the comic. Maybe the writers are trying to superimpose her character onto the screen as accuratelt as possible...? (comic reader's thoughts please?)
