Id also like to point out there is a recent video on you tube of Black Friday shoppers pushing/fighting/grabbing each other for some cheap pre paid cell phones in a Walmart. They were acting like wild animals over cheap junk phones.

Now imagine if this was over food or water in a real SHTF scenario. Could you imagine how people would act over essentials to survival if they act like wild animals over cheap phones?

This is why i say Glenn wouldn't survive this environment, you would have to learn to shoot people if something like this ever went down. Your gonna have to kill eventually. One false slip to someone like Merle and you are a corpse not a captive.

This doesn't imply not to help people or shoot anyone you see, this implies if someone comes at your aggressively dont hesitate to take them out!!

Well, you have a point, but living people will be in a lot smaller supply than food and water. WE will be the precious commodity.

These zombie shows have it wrong. There will be CELL PHONES FOR ALL!

Like Steven said, Glenn is a work in progress and has stated repeatedly that he's in a growth stage. He's going to mess up and learn from mistakes. Getting captured and tortured is going to make him tougher. It's pretty stupid to make a judgment based off of one episode.

In S1, he was this easy going guy who had a devil may care attitude. In S2, he started to realize the true nature of this world and how a loved one factors into it.

In S3, Maggie emasculated him. It wasn't just this one episode.

Not sure what has happened so far as emasculation. She's overprotective and refuses to allow him to put himself in danger. When she went out on the supply run to the nursery, it was because she felt she needed to keep a personal promise to Lori about taking care of the baby. I didn't expect Glenn to "protect" her by telling her to shut up and he's going instead.

Overbearing, yes. Emasculated, no.

Hell, the comments in this thread to convey hatred of Glenn is emasculation.

EDIT: I think a big reason why it seems that Maggie is emasculating him is because her personal growth has increased much more than his but this is caused by the writers. From the end of S2 to the first episode, she went from 0-60 in 2 seconds.

No, the writers showed us exactly what happened and we weren't supposed to be left to believe anything more. They wanted to show us that the Governor likes to play mind games and can mentally manipulate anyone he wants without having to be physical and they wanted to show us that Merle is the classic big but scared bully. The Governor didn't have to soothe Maggie like that while staring at Glenn but he did it because he thought it would be amusing to screw with Glenn mentally. It was a good addition to the scene.

The majority of Glenn's beating took place off screen - made obvious by the swelling, bruising, and bleeding on his face that were not present in the previous scene. The governor was with Maggie off screen as well - we do not know what happened during that time. He may have raped her - he might have played more mind games - he might have sat there in silence, staring at her. We do not know. TV shows are not presented in real time - a lot of things happen off screen because they skip over blocks of time to fit everything in.

I do agree that the governor's psychological manipulation was well done - particularly the way he "soothed" Maggie in front of Glenn. Very creepy and disturbing.

Well I'll admit I've skipped a few posts so if what I am saying has already been said I'm sorry but I have two main points:

1. Glenn and Maggie are still alive so as far as a ZA goes that is not a failure. Granted, he may have put them in a bad situation but until one of them ends up dead it cannot be considered a failure. These are not normal circumstances so all that matters is survival.

2. As far as fitness and physical prowess I'd say the gov is not exactly a physical specimen. He is in good shape but it was not his physical stature that got him in the position he is in. In fact, I bet those military guys he gunned down were in much better physical shape and had all the training in the world. His greatest attribute is his ability to manipulate and control people (including people that could probably "take him" if it came down to it) and his ability to seem very unimposing and nonthreatening. Like I said he is probably in good shape but from what he said he was just an average joe that had and average job. Probably didn't run marathons or ironmans. Just knew how to use people to get what he needed.

True its a TV script the writers could make Glenn sprout wings and bullet proof armor if they wanted too. Real world = bad guy gets the drop on you, you are dead.

2. As far as fitness and physical prowess I'd say the gov is not exactly a physical specimen. He is in good shape but it was not his physical stature that got him in the position he is in. Maggie/Glenn were written to survive, real life bad guy gets drop, good guy gets bullet in head = dead.

Once again its a tv series writers . Real world = It would have been a fire fight and governor probably would have been injured or killed. The soldiers would not be that stupid, they would have set up a perimeter and have people walking that perimeter keeping guard for hostiles walkers or humans.

Only the weak minded are manipulated and controlled. Even Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson only found a limited number of followers. Lets not forget everyone in Woodsbury hasnt seen the Governor darkest side. He is good at hiding that it seems.

Still he doesn't lock down his quarters as Michonne was able to get into it, Merle has had plenty of chances when he was alone with the Guv to take him out. The governor seems way relaxed in his environment.

I could write a millions way for it to be done but im not the writer and I wouldn't want him killed just yet.

Thank you, some common sense in this thread!!

Rolls eyes I know i said i was done responding but the stupidity just makes it hard. Big or Skinny dosnt mean your FIt.

A person who can run faster and farther is gonna more than likely last longer than a person who runs 300 feet and kills over from smoking all there life or just being a inactive slob.

And just cause your skinny doesn't mean you can run or are in shape, tons of skinny people cant run a mile or even pull themselves over a wall. Therefore Glenn may not even be in shape i dont know and wont comment on that.

Ill say it once again, there is a reason the military, fighters, athletes, firemen/police have fitness tests and if not required are heavily pressured to focus on being physically fit. It helps when your body needs to be pushed to the limit. It is a big factor in how far you are able to go and push yourself before collapsing of physical exhaustion. It plays a nice size role in who comes out on top in a altercation as well.

Ill be sure not to relay any info on myself since it shatters your ego. So therefore we will talk about Mister X. This Mister X served in the marine corp, he is a now a personal trainer and takes his fitness very seriously. He runs, strength trains, and is in phenomenal condition.

TOMM MORNING BOOM A ZA HITS!!!!

If Mister X has to get from point A to B on foot he is gonna beat you there.

If Mister X is chased by a Zombie and has to scale over a 6ft wall his upper body strength will allow him to.

If Mister X has to put a wounded comrade over his back and get him outta harms way he will do it better than you.

If Mister X gets in a physical altercation his cardiovascular conditioning is gonna take him much further, after 30 secs and your hands are on your side Mister X will still be going, also due to his strength from training the chances of him overpowering you are greatly enhanced.

Mister X will be better at carrying gear further and more of it without tiring out as quickly.

Mister X will be less likely to be attacked by a thug then someone who looks the role of a weakling. Its proven muggers will generally attack the weaker targets first.

Mister X sees the hoard approaching and ammo and gas is gone Mister X just laughs and runs about 10 miles leaving the horde in the dust.

I could keep going . But you can close your eyes and not get the picture and drown in your own river of denial. But Mister X will have a huge advantage over the regular Joe whose only exercise is pressing the buttons on the remote.

But wait, Mr x forgot to tie up his shoelaces, trips over and is eaten whole (Lori style) by about 4 hungry walkers....... :zombie02:

A couple of questions:

You are on the point of collapse, about to be eaten by walkers. You run into a group of strangers.

The leader of Group A says: "Let's take this poor woman in and protect her," and tells his followers to take care of you.

The Leader of Group B says: " Let's stand here and watch this poor woman be eaten by walkers, and not lift a finger to help." He admonishes one of his followers who tries to help you.

Leader of Group A says: "We have to take your weapon away, but we will give you food and medical attention and when you are well again we'll give you your weapon back, plus some supplies. In the meantime, you're free to wander around and get to know us, and we'd like to invite you to stay if you want."

Leader of Group B says : "We have to take your weapon away, but we will give you food and medical attention and when you are well again we'll give you your weapon back, plus some supplies. In the meantime, we'll keep you locked up in a cell, and as soon as we can we'll kick your ass out of here."

Who would you trust, and why?
...........
Here's a scenario: You are part of a foraging party from Group A, and you come across a couple from Group B. In the ensuing shoot-out you are wounded by gunfire and split off from your party. Having overheard that the other group is holed up at a local prison, you realise that wounded as you are, you can't get home, but you might make it there.

On reaching the prison, you worm your way into their confidence by giving them a cock-and-bull story about how horrible it is at your base, convincing them they have to rescue their comrades. They give you a ride back, and you, knowing the area very well, give them the slip and re-join your original group, giving them all the info they need, including that there's a small group outside about to launch an attack.

Meanwhile, chuckling to yourself about what a bunch of gullible fools those guys from the prison are.

1st post...this show is serious!!!

-Upset they got rid of Tdog after finally giving him a real role this season as an enforcer and not as a sandbag as he was in the recent ssns (random injury on car door almost killing him, losing key for merle)

- Writers reduced the team to half its strength but added 2 new randoms that look like they will def make them stronger than b4 (i have read the comic also, and i know what possible future they have)

- Glenn has stepped up. Initially he was more chilidish being considered the person to sneak around and play decoy. Main reason was that damn cap he was always wearing. Small thing, but i doubt his character will be wearing a cap again just to reflect his growth.

- I give governor respect. he has handled the community well. it seems like he was ok with everything until he lost his daughter (her name was the last in the book until he started scribbling). Very manipulative as most leaders are but his over niceness (i know its not a word) is what makes him more dangerous and i think andrea is starting to get that

i would take the leader of group b. its been a year + since the break out so when ppl are too nice its seems artificial. i rather the leader b because he is just keeping it real. as far as helping the person being attacked, if the zombie is at there neck its basically over. it doesnt make sense to lose 2 ppl unless its a guaranteed save

T-Dog got shafted. I still wonder if the same thing would have happened if Darabont would not have been fired. Seems Frank Darabont was better when it came to juggling characters and all giving them an important place in the story.

Just seems to me the further away we got from the "Darabont episodes," the less we saw of T-Dog.

From what I have heard here, they killed him off to fake out the audience so Lori's death would be a surprise.

What a shitty reason for getting rid of him - especially after they actually gave him some meaningful lines.

Stinking hacks.

I'm going with group A. My immediate need is for safety.

In the meantime, you're free to wander around and get to know us, and we'd like to invite you to stay if you want."

Eventually I might wonder where supplies are coming from. Might wonder about the choice of "entertainment".
Is the presence of "controlled" walkers meant to make me feel more secure, or is it a manipulative reminder of what exists outside the walls of Woodbury? Anyway, Im staying until I've come up with a really good reason to have to leave.
