AGREED! Annie (stupid nickname) and Amidala were just too far apart... (then all of the sudden they're just the right age in the next movie and she hasn't aged a single year... sheesh). Same with Carl and Beth. In another post I called it a school-boy's crush and an older teenager's indulgence.I don't really like this pairing - reminds me of Anakin Skywalker and Princess what's-her-name from Star Wars prequel episode 1 - just doesnt make sense based on age difference - he's what, 12-13 tops and she's at least 18 ... 5-6 years doesn't sound like much, but developmentally at those particular ages it's night and day ... if show continues a few more YEARS (in show time) it would make more sense

funny stuff
I think this relationship is just another "seed" that was planted for future story lines. Maybe season 5 or 6?
Ole' Hersh put the proverbial smackdown on it though! LOL
Everyone remember the Lori Herschel conversation when Hori-errr Lori found out that he wanted them to move on after Carl got better? He was like, be thankful he only wants to shoot, its more complicated with a daughter or something like that.

I think Beth was just amused at Carl's obvious crush. She is supposed to be 16 (maybe 17 after the time jump). I HIGHLY doubt she has any romantic interest in Carl. I think it was supposed to be 'cute' and not anything more. I really don't even understand why it's getting as much attention as it is.
I agree completely. It isn't like Carl has a large dating pool, Beth is quite cute... what else is he supposed to do?
Beth is 'being nice'... again, what else is she supposed to do?
Hershel did quietly, but firmly, put the smack down on it, at least for now.
I think the reason that it is getting so much attention is:
1. It's light. TWD is a pretty intense drama, with life and death going on all the time and really weighty subjects being weighed. Having the amusement of a puppy love scenario played out gives the audience a moment to breath.
2. It's ... normal. In a world that has changed completely, that crush is something that everybody in the audience can relate to (if we didn't have one, we saw one/had a friend with one/something). It's familiar... in a world where everything else has changed, it's a touchpoint.
3. It was *very* well done. I was amused, because we here on the forum made the point that Carl was looking at Beth's rear view when they were running between the fences... and he was, and things led from that. AND, Hershel played the stern father SO well (again, we can all kind of relate... we've heard the stories of the father's with the shotguns behind the chair... and Hershel's isn't even BEHIND the chair!).

I agree with your points, and I felt the same. I really enjoyed the scene and I thought it really added just the right amount of lightness to a very dark episode... I guess the shipping stuff is making me enjoy it less. I probably should avoid these threads.

Yeah, Hershel was really funny in that scene. I liked the smile he gave Beth after Carl scampered away. I'm sure they're all pretty amused by the crush.

As far as Carl/Beth goes their options are limited and when Carl saves her life some where (and we know he will) she might see him in a differnt light.
............and Hersel might be having a tougher time getting in Carls way now.
Oh yes I did!

Barl = Beth + Carl.
The looks she was shooting his way. And the way he was hanging around in her cell. I think Hershel noticed.
Internesting ship.
Please, please, please Santa! Do not let the word Barl, if it's even a word, catch on.
I think Beth is more like 15-16ish but its still gross since Carl is 12-13ish. Ew.
Not into cradle robbing LDG? My wife reads gossip magazines and tells me it's all the rage these days.
Dude... awkward.
That has to be the most perfectly phrased reply I have ever seen on this forum.

Carl probably can't even masterbate yet and even if he could he's too young for actual sex, so hypothetically even if they were to end up together he wouldn't be able to satisfy her. Which is probably why they'd be together in an apocalypse in the first place
Dude... awkward.

Totally.

My Grandmaster in Chinese Kempo called a few of us up one day to "come over for a few beers and hang out".
He is a really cool guy that we all really looked up to, and he had all kinds of stories, and you never heard the same one twice. So we all were like hell ya we will be over in a little bit, so after class got out we went over and had a few beers, and he starts going through his gun safe showing us all of his goodies. So here we are, 4 of his top students, and Professor and a table full of guns. And in walks his daughter who happened to be visiting, and......wait for it.......the new troublemaker boyfriend. He had us over for more than just a few beers, lets just say that. The visit from his daughter was planned in advance, and we all just happened to be there with a small arsenal laid out on the table. I laughed about it all the way home....
