I went with Shane because he physically looks the strongest. Given Merle only has one hand now I think his chances of winning a fit are more slim.

Merle could stab someone with his knife hand or if he doesn't have that I'm sure he'd hit them with a stump punch.

And if we're doing it off of their current condition I think Merle could handle Shane's corpse pretty easy. o_O

Rick has already beat Shane twice, and both times Shane fought dirty (throwing a wrench, pulling a gun when his back is turned) so while Shane looks tougher, those must be glamour muscles.

Rick also managed to handcuff Merle to the roof. Merle might be tough, but he seems like an idiot, military training or not. Not everyone in the military is a general. Most of them just do what they are told without any independant thought. And sure Merle was badass enough to hack off his hand and cauterize his own wound, but Rick survived for weeks in the hospital without food or water, and walked out of there without any atrophy and very little weakness. (unrealistic, but hey, they wrote it that way so Rick must be superhuman!)

Darryl could give him a run for his money, but I see Rick as more cunning, (won with a knife in a gun fight). Darryl is very smart and observant, so he may have noticed weaknesses that he could expoilt. But Rick has something to live for, and Darryl at this point does not, which would put him over the top, so I say Rick.

To be fair, Rick hit Merle from behind while he was beating up T-Dog, in a one-on-fight Merle wouldn't be too busy punching someone else to let his guard down to Rick. Also i'm pretty sure Daryl has something to live for (such as protecting the group and trying to find Merle).

Rick. You don't get to be a sheriff by being untrained wimp.

I was a bouncer for a long time. The only fair fights are in a ring.

At this point Daryl's empathy for the group may be greater than his feelings towards his brother Merle. I can see Daryl killing Merle defending another member of the group.

Nobody puts baby in a corner.

Edit: whoops wrong Patrick Shwayze movie.

There we go, see most people would completely delete to mistake quote but I'll let everyone enjoy the laugh on me.

All of his movies kind of just run together for me. It's like he was a bouncer in a bar that went on to dance and then became a ghost.
