I would like to hear some thoughts on what people would do if they where in Ricks shoes.

How many people are you willing to lose in this war ?
What about carl , do you want him anywhere near this war ?
If you submit to Negan can you live with it or fight it ?

Good idea for a thread!

I honestly had this question in my head as I put down issue 100 and had trouble coming up with anything. I suppose I'd try to rally a militia using members of each camp and see what everyone could come up with collectively.

I could also see everyone doing something to expose Negan's army to a vast amount of walkers, that way the issue of being out numbered could be taken care of and (hopefully) decrease casualties of his group.

• I would poison whatever food I give Negan. He may see this coming, so it would need to be a slow-acting poison, and as a measure of good faith, I'd have an unknowing Spencer be the royal taste-tester, if you will.

• I wouldn't want Carl near the war, but Alexandria is the safest place we have. I wouldn't want him on the front lines, but at the same time, he'd end up there whether I let him or not.
  
• If I were to submit to Negan, it would only be for Carl's safety. That said, if things get too bad while being indentured to Negan, all bets are off.

I would work on further securing Alexandria. More boobie traps at the wall Boiling oil, moltov cocktails, Shrapnel bombs, pit with wooden spikes surrounding the perimeter, Get Euge to make those bullets. I may play it cool a while with Neegan untill I think I could take him. Maybe sneek out at night and build a safe house for carl and other women and children to retreat to if shit hits the fan.

the safest bet is to submit until a solid loan could be formulated, honestly I wouldn't have gotten into that situation as I wouldn't have agreed to take on an enemy I knew nothing about. but if I were in his shoes and having no supplies I would fight negan. I am stubborn and would risk everything to overpower him. I would set Carl back at an interior fallback point and give him a big associated machine e gun like he has in issue 104. I would line the inside of the wall with large trucks so the next time he tried to batter the wall with trucks he wwouldn't be able to penetrate the defense and I would reinforce the gate. I would build more defences outside of the wall like another row of cars and a other trench as well as some pikes and hidden pits. I would stArt hoarding gasoline and I would saturate the ground so when they attack I could just light them all on fire and I would make bows and arrows for distance attacks.I would also start makin ammo so we could defend with guns and send Jesus out to recruit other ssocieties. if I got a large enough group I might even seek out negan and take the fight to him. but given his situation I would not submit. afterward I would take over the hilltop and create an army then converting other communities to my rule and create a NWO off my own-one nobody could fuck with. I would try to get all the communities to mo've close first our join one Sara to better strengthen our defenses.

im stll formulating my plan i will get back soon on that , So far i have come up with jack and shit it really is a good rock and hard place clusterfuck they are in. I know we wouldnt have much time to do anything right away a week till Negn comes back might not be enough time to get anything going.
I dont think the front gate is the only way into the Alexandira zone whats to stop them running trucks through the weaker part of the safe zone they just built with Abe. Im having a hard time really understanding the Saviors moves with dwight it makes them out to be a bunch of bumbling idiots but i know they are more the that. The Alexandria attack in 101 seemed to me like it was just a probe to see how fortified Alexandria is and to make them waste more ammo. I would think the saviors have more people then we have been shown. Soooo im still thinking what i would do but i think i would submit at first and try to figure out how they know so much about me.

1. I would use the collection periods to my advantage . Kill the group sent and prepare for more of them to come. The safe zones walls seem secure and there is a good line of defense. + everytime we kill a savior we get a weapon.

I think you have to go guerilla and infiltrate destroy from within and externally. I would honestly tell Michonne to take Carl NorthWest and don't stop for 200 miles. For a start. Then it's Chess.

I've been thinking for a while that if people could hack it up north, where walkers would just freeze, that could work.  There's the obvious challenge of keeping everyone warm, and acquiring enough food, but people figured it out a long time ago, it could be done again.

1. I would infiltrate from the inside-out. I would use Eugene to send a bomb to their camp. Then Andrea would lead a small group to shoot the supplies and explode it all.

2. Maybe 3 or 4 minor characters. Holly, Stokes, Nicholas, Spencer. Maybe Denise or Olivia.

3. I would send Carl to Hilltop, Aaron and Eric can go with him on the way there, and then come back. He can stay with Maggie and Sophia until this is all sorted out.

4. I'd live with being under Negan's control for a little while, but the whole time I'll be having secret meetings and stuff in order to take down Negan. Maybe planning an assassination.

Great question...

Rick has two choices: Continue the fight and possibly perish against his greater number of men? Or submit and lose half your possessions (aka food) to the Saviors?

First off, if I were Rick, I would stop with the rash actions. I don't know enough about Negan except that he has superiority in men.  He is likely better able and better organized for a take over of Alexandria than the Governor was when he broke into the prison (and the Gov was very successful).

And so I would likely do whatever a sane person would do when dealing with a big-armied warlord: welcome your new master and spend the next few weeks/months assessing whether it is worth it to:

1) Plot to overthrow Negan and replace his system with one of your own.
or
2) Support Negan seeing in him a more secure future for yourself and your people.

i think i would cut my losses and gather supplys and anyone that is willing to go and head for a lesser populated area in the north or west. But thats just me wanting to get the group on the road again becasue i think that is when the comic is at its best.
Why stay and fight to lose more people or even lose your own child to a fucker like Negan you have nothing in Alexandria to stay for anymore.

If Rick and co. were gonna flee I see two good options. one, head to the mountains, Better natural protection. Plus there is probably more wildlife to hunt as  deer, moose, mountain goat ect. would be able to escape zombies better in the mountains . Or even better an Island. There are many Islands off the Atlantic mid coast in Virginia and North Carolina. They could find a boat, load it with whatever weapons and supplies they have, make it to a small Island and kill off all zombies. once that is done farm and fish. I don 't think the undead can swim and there is plenty of fish in the sea

I agree, when they are on the move that is when I enjoy the comic the most.  I loved the entire march to Washington.  If I were Rick that would be the smart thing to do, go to the mountians as gypsyrose mentioned, away from zombies and people who want to hurt you, live in some old log cabins with wood stoves, focus on hunting, growing and storing.

However, as an avid reader, this comic needs an evil villian that will last more than 1 arc. I want to continue hating Negan and the Saviours, like I hated the Governor, and I to see Negan and the Saviours hurt.  I want to see a well thought out war with the Saviours.  Unfortunately, some of the members of Alexandria will die, but that is what the comic is all about.

i agree with having a main villan to hate i also loved to hate the Gov and his crew my personal opinion is the comic is always at its best with the tention of being on the road and seeing other areas of the country. Negan and the Saviors have proven to be very moble and i think it would be awesome if Rick and Co. book it and we have the Saviors Track them down for awhile it could be a good way to get them seperated enough to take them out. But like i said before this is me just wanting to get back on the road.....

Yes! I like that.  What if Rick and a small group leave with all the weapons. When Negal comes at the end of the week, whoever is left at Alexandria tells the Saviours that Rick and his 'inner cirle' group ran away with the weapons and threatened to shoot 'us' if we follow.  With fewer residents left at Alexandria, Negan wil not kill anyone, he needs these new workers.   However, in reality, Rick and his small group, are on the hunt to find the Saviours and discover a way to get eliminate them.
