I'm assuming you are talking about the thread started by BMW?  If so, that topic had an additional issue - it was started by a clear troll, who was looking to start a flame war.  In places, I enjoyed that thread, but I agreed with the decision to shut it down.  The initial post was about "guns on TWD", but it didn't stay with that very long (and I am raising my hand, guiltily, as one of the people that helped steer it off course).

I have to disagree with you, Jon W. I remember that thread and you are only guilty of calling him a "troll."  It was already off course. :)

Beware, I am emoticon-impaired.

Whoever, whenever, however, and for whatever reasons we want is our rights.
It is cool to narrow down to one core belief why a person votes a certain way.
My core belief might end up in war when and if I choose to tell. Funny thing, it has noting to do with politics.

<grin>  Did I actually call him a troll in the thread?  I don't remember.

And if I did, it wasn't something to be guilty for, it was just an admission of facts as observed.  I *still* think that BMW was a "reincarnation" of Leon the Pig Farmer.

And, sort of, the first post was sort of on topic - shouldn't there be 'more guns available' in the American South?  That was a legitimate forum question, to my mind.

Of course, it didn't stay there for more than a few minutes....

I personally find that it is more than one core belief... or maybe a related grouping of core beliefs - that drive people.

For example:  if you, as a person, believe that "all human life is sacred", odds are -

1.  You will be vehemently opposed to Capital Punishment.

2.  You will usually be against private ownership of firearms.

3.  You will believe war never settles anything

etc.

I've had this discussion multiple times, even stretching back as far as having the discussion on a Compuserve forum....

Do you have one core belief why you vote a certain way? For me that conversation is quick and simple. I work in a hotel and at some point I have to tell guest not to let me keep them from getting rest from a hard days work and such.

I believe I called him "passive-agressive."  I never really took BMW to be a typical troll.  He struck me more like someone who had a narrow view of Americans, which, honestly, is understandable.

If what you know about Americans is what you see on American TV shows, plus what you see American politicians do, plus Donald Trump and Lindsay Lohan, plus news reports about mass shootings, we look like a bunch of assholes.  Never mind that most of us never do anything interesting enough to get on TV or to base a TV show on.  BMW struck me as someone who knew those things about the US.

Then, a bunch of us posted photos of our gun collections and well, the rest is history. :Boomstick_by_Preamp:
