Check out the photos on this link.  Awesome, would look amazing on film.  No need for CGI.

Though I just checked the article again and most of it are faked and photoshopped.

Oh well, I tried....

Looks like the set from Resident Evil: Extinction. Way too sandy, clean and not depressing enough setting for an apocalyptic movie. Pripyat on the other hand is the perfect place, minus the heinous amounts of radiation.

Pripyat is so sad, so desolate. And you can go visit! Which is ace!

I thought it was the local council estate. Then I realised that Pripyat is much safer.

As perfect as pripyat would be, it's too well-known to be a setting for a zombie movie. It would just look lazy trying to disguise that as a different city.

That being said, i find that place to be one of the coolest places in the world, an would love to visit at some point of my life

I agree--Pripyat near Chernobyl would be awesome, but everyone knows that location.

In keeping with a Romeroesque setting, I'd chose Fort Indiantown Gap for a ZA, about 30 miles from me. It's a sprawling National Guard training site along the Appalachian Mountains in central Pennsylvania. It provides training support ranging from individual warrior tasks through brigade-level.  FITG has an artillery range, a tank firing range, a large ammo storage area, an armory, and a helicopter training facility.

I think an average modern day city would be a pretty good location if you are going for realism. Every TWD fan has imagined it happening in their hometown.
