Alright. Well, I've heard countless theories be formulated upon the rustling bushes at the end of "Beside the Dying Fire" and I decided I would finally make a thread for it and see what other people think. I personally don't think it will come into play again. I've explained this in other threads, but I don't think it was signifigant enough to make as big of an impact as people seem to think. I've heard that it was Tyreese in the bushes, even that it was the Chupacabra that Daryl saw... little ridiculous. Walking Dead isn't LOST, they don't make small things into big things. The Walking Dead is a pretty straight forward show, with a fair share of plot twists... but I doubt a little rustling in the bushes from what is probably a racoon is going to make waves in the Walking Dead universe.

But, that's my opinion... What do you guys think?

I didn't really think much to it, just another scare factor as they were out in the woods at night, zombies roaming everywhere... it just added to the tension really.

I don't think it will come into play in season 3. I don't think it was anything really. They just added it in so that it could build up to the scene where Maggie gets scared and says its not safe to be there and so the group could question Rick's leadership skills in keeping them safe.

Having given the matter all due consideration, I have decided there are two possibilities. By far the most likely it is that most dreaded of creatures, the Land Shark...............

Posted Image

There is an outside chance it could be the Borg.

Posted Image

If it is the Borg, and they begin to assimilate the walkers, there is a chance the Borg themselves will be infected. If so, well then.........................................

I've been expecting them to jump forward from the scene at the end of "Beside the Dying Fire", so I don't expect anything further to come from the rustling in the bushes.

On the other hand, maybe we'll have a flashback to the attack by the landshark that ate Carl and Beth before Hershel and Glenn managed to bludgeon it to death.

Beware, I am emoticon-impaired.

I think it was Michonne and Andrea being within spitting distance of the rest of the group. I have no evidence to back up this crazy idea, but I know how much Trillian and Ginger enjoy people who put their tuppenorth in.

EDIT: I feel I need to point out the rustling noise was not Michonne and Andrea spitting. Just that they managed to get close and totally missed the group due to the fact they're both women and don't know how to do directions. This is Sexist Fred, signing off.

thats actually not a bad idea. but if they were that close, wouldnt they have seen the fire and gone to check it out? especially andrea.

i didnt vote because while i think they SHOULD acknowledge the noise, i dont think theyre going to. TWD universe almost never goes the way i think it should

I believe that if the noise is addressed in Season 3, it will be a smaller herd of walkers, chasing them away.

But I think the noise was put there to show the paranoia of the group; every little noise and rustling could be something that can kill them, and they're scared. Its been mentioned about how after the noise, Maggie and Carol both started questioning their men about Rick, and how they should leave. It led to the whole "this isn't a democracy anymore" speech, and solidified Rick and the Ricktator.

For them to turn around next season and start from the dying fire, and have them wake up to, let's say, several walkers chewing on Beth, it would ruin the purpose of that speech. Rick just put it all out there, saying that he's the only choice they've got; he'll keep them safe, and really adopt some of Shane's traits and merge them with his own.

And I don't believe that I haven't heard a theory about the noise being the Governor yet. That would be ridiculous anyway...he's too busy hunting dinosaurs with Dr. Grant.

I hope season 3 opens with T-Dog saying, "No, nothing in the bushes," and then Rick chopping the bushes down and burning them to keep everyone warm.   That's how much I hate the horrible 'what's in the bushes?' theories. :P

I can see it now:

Rick: T-Dog. Check the bushes, to make sure there's no walkers, Land Sharks, or Borg hanging around there.

T-Dog: Aw, shit!

<T-Dog goes to check the bushes>

Rick: T-Dog, did you see anything?

T-Dog: Aw, hell naw!

Rick: T-Dog, I know you hate burning bodies, but this will be different. I need you to burn those bushes over there, so nothin' can jump out at us. They may be a little wet, so use this pile of walker bodies as kindling.

I think I was the first to come up with this odd theory (and it wasnt even really a theory). I was hoping, using the rustling, they could introduce Tyrese akin to the comics.

I was hoping it'd be something like this...

Intro to Season 3:
-Fade into a shot of Rick walking (toward the camera, wide shot) away from the campfire whispering to T-Dog: "Do you see anything?"
-"Nothing. Its too dark out here."
-"Come down and back me up in case anything happens." (Rick takes his revolver while T-Dog brings the rifle.)
-Cut to a shot of Lori and Carl looking scared that Rick is leaving.
-Cut to a shot of them walking into the forest deeper, mist rising around them. Both of them are making small talk.
-Rick hears a noise and then pulls out his revolver. He then puts it up toward a group of bushes expecting a few walkers.
-Shot cuts back to Rick and T-Dog's faces looking surprised (Rick still holding up his revolver as T-Dog lowers his rifle).
-Rick then says "Oh Christ."
-Cut to the new opening credits.

This is pretty mediocre as its 1 AM where Im at, but to be honest, the writers can do better than me and probably use this in the story. Maybe.

(This scene could actually be used for Andrea and Michonne too)

Same, I agree with what the person said up there. It was used just to show how paranoid they are and that they think everything and anything is after them. The Greene family have left their farm for the first time so I can only imagine how hard it would be for them.
