Every time I see this thread pop up, I am seeing Do you think Shane Walsh was impotent? in my mind's eye.
Something Freudian I guess.
Reminds me of an old joke,
Archie walks into a men's store and tells the sales clerk to show him his best tuxedo. The clerk, having known Archie all his life asks him, Why in the world would you be needing a tuxedo Archie?
Archie says, I was just at the Doctor and he told me I am impotent, so I figured I should try to look impotent.

For a reasonable fee, I will quell minor outbreaks, enforce quarantines, and dispatch infected relatives.

Shane is done. I'm sick of hearing about him, personally.
Apparently, not sick enough that you won't click on a "Do you think Shane is Omnipotent?" thread.
That's like saying Elvis is done... or Michael Jackson is done. They may be dead, but definitely not done. Legends never die.

Does kinda look like that at first glance. But if I were talking about that... and since I'm a Shane fan, it would have said "Do You Think Shane Walsh is Potent?" LOL

Apparently so!

That's okay. He only got killed cause Shane offered himself up to make Rick a stronger person. So it's all good.

The people who would follow Shane would all be dead by or before episode 5 or 6 of season 1. Shane was rarely right. He was close to right, often, but hardly ever actually right. He let his fear make him reckless. He wanted to always lash out when thoughtful and judicious decision making was needed. He is only a leader to like-minded people. A mob rules sort of leader, playing on emotions, and usually for the worst possible outcome. In TS-19 he was blowing away all the computer terminals and equipment in a fit of rage. Never mind killing Jenner. Shooting the terminal that Jenner accessed to open the door would have been enough to kill them all. He was annoyed that people gravitated toward Rick as the leader and not him, but they did it because they could sense who the REAL leader was. Shane could never be more than a henchman when it gets right down to it.

I don't think it's a matter of "Shane/Rick was always right/wrong"... my understanding is that both of them made mistakes, which makes these characters realistic. The point is that Shane was a violent and impulsive man, Rick is more thoughtful. Some people were even afraid of Shane! While Rick... he's the good guy! Ok, if you leave aside his last speech in Season 2!
As for the leadership issue, I think that one of the reasons why Rick became the leader is that Dale liked him and disliked Shane: Dale was constantly talking to the rest of the group, and I think he had a great influence on at least some of them. Poor Dale.

Every single time I see the title of this thread...
Monica: Joey, what would you do if you were omnipotent?
Joey: I'd probably kill myself.
Monica: Excuse me?
Joey: Hey, if "Little Joey"'s dead, then I got no reason to live.
Ross: Uh, Joey... Omnipotent.
Joey: You are? Ross, I'm sorry.
