What do you think?

Rick becomes a zombie and commits suicide? That's what I get out of that picture. But I suppose we shouldn't take TWD covers too seriously.

Yeah I would never take a variant from a different artist seriously...hell, even most of Adlard's covers don't have anything to do with what's in the issue. What I get from this is perhaps with this hint of "Rick's Darkest moment" is perhaps by the end of Something to Fear he'll be wishing he was dead, suicidal thoughts perhaps? I guess we'll have to wait to find out!

Can't say I'm in love with it.

From what Ottley said about his cover (which is awesome, by the way), Kirkman basically told him to draw whatever he wants. If that's the case all around, McFarlane decided to mess with all the fangirls and fanboys out there for the next month.

The picture makes no damn sense in any context. Lori was never buried, much less with a headstone; and if she was, Rick wouldn't know where or be anywhere close to the grave. She's still his wife, sure, but he seems well over the grieving process and is presently with the second woman he's been with since Lori died. Rick isn't ragged; he isn't still hauling around his sheriff's uniform anymore, nor did he ever wear a cap (like the one in front of the headstone). If he was going to blow his head off, he wouldn't put a question mark; he's a man of action and always has been. And if he was going to kill himself, it'd be over Carl, not Lori.

And yes, I know that covers don't need to reflect what goes on in the issue (Lord knows we've been psyched out by covers before), but at least they're generally in the spirit of what's going on. This feels like McFarlane hasn't read anything past the first compendium -- and what's the point of having him draw, then? It smacks of insincerity.

Yeah the Ottley cover is awesome too..also really digging the Silvestri one of Rick and Michonne standing on a hilltop infront of hundreds of walkers!

It seems Todd is going off the iconic panel where Rick proclaims...

Your post is truth. Initially seeing it I was like "oh damn!" - clearly many of the covers don't reflect exactly whats going on, but I this seems like it has nothing to do with the current arc or feel of the arc like the other cover variants do. Rick is over Lori, so I can't imagine him being all depressed and suicidal again, especially since he's with Andrea now. It is a pretty intense cover though.

A lot of covers make no sense to the story within the comics, the '28 Days Later' miniseries is evidence of that. It is a striking cover though, it'll definitely stand out on comic book shelves.

Man, that picture made me realize I couldn't keep on reading the comics if Rick died.

If what this reads is true it confirms that Rick isn't and won't become a zombie, also has anyone checked out Sean Phillips' cover its so rad, looks like a film poster, so stoked on issue 100

Not as egregious as the McFarlane one, but still not without glaring error to any fan of the series. A fedora?? Really?? He's not Indiana Jones' kid.

Silvestri is far and away my favorite of the variants; and Adlard's wraparound is easily one of the best pieces of art he's turned out in a long, long time. I want a print of that in my living room. (I doubt my lady will approve, though, especially as she doesn't want to read the comics while the show is on the air!)

Not to mention Michonne looks like T-Dog with lipstick and a wig.

Yeah, there's that too. I figure that's a talent thing, though, and you can't just will someone into being a better artist.

Also... they couldn't get Tony Moore to do a cover?? Really?? I'd take a stick figure from the original artist of the Walking Dead over any variant to celebrate the 100th issue.
