On the engineer board that I admin, we have two of these forums.  One is an automatic advancement when you hit so many posts and one is by invite only from the existing members with access.  Its a group setting, so if you were to be invited into the exclusive one, your group would be changed to for example Member as opposed to the default Members, or you could call them Veteran Members, but whatever, the group is different.  You can also set it up so that they are in a group with access to this forum, but the group mask feature makes it look to everybody on the board like they are simply Members, so nobody would know this secret area existed.  But anyway, this select group would be authorized to view the by invitation only forum.

Anyway, that being said, on the message boards that I've been involved with none of them devolve all the way into depravity.  It just allows the more regular posters a place to be a little bit more open where the general public won't see it.  People in those forums on the other boards that I've seen have shared things like, "keep me in your thoughts as I try to get this new job."  Honestly, I think most people tend to stay away from delving into pornographic material even if in a "secret" room.  We're not visiting a zombie porno website, we're visiting a zombie website, big difference, and everybody pretty much knows that.

It may not be a bad idea once season 3 starts (or a little before) and we get a serious influx of new users and returns from members who only post when the show's on-air, but as for now it seems pointless as - like I mentioned - the whole forum seems to be our playground at this point (especially the Dead Room).

There's really only a handfull of us that post here on a daily basis.

You know another thing we do is a supporting member title.  These people pay a small donation (I think for the engineer site it's $25, but it could be whatever, $5 or $10) and they get increase message space, access to a supporting member's forum and ability to do other things (like maybe edit their own posts... but umm, yeah, I'll leave that alone now).  Anyway, the owner of the board did this to try to offset the cost of the server space, because during the engineering exam results seasons the traffic would spike and use tons of bandwidth and he was paying out of pocket.  He seems to be happy with how its working for him, gets enough to pay for the costs of the board and also keeps members coming back even after they've passed their exam, that way they contribute and makes the board more enjoyable.

for what its worth, I'd gladly pay $5 to be able to edit my posts after 35 minutes.  Hell, I'd pay $10 to do it.

Like everyone else I'm only coming back because I love you guys more than Mrs C chips. I'd also be willing to throw a crisp fiver in the pot if it helps keep R&L active and means I get either a special merit badge or, preferably, special access to this prawn room you're all discussing; that is, unless BWR does post his entire hard-drive in which case I'd willingly accept a crisp fiver from the admins to stay active on the forum with my unique brand of wit and Walking Dead insight ™.

Well, it seems that the topic du jure on the suggested board would be kinky sex and, god forbid, dick pics. Anything else that might be a topic there has gone over my head. I would need someone to give me an example

I would not be offended by the existence of such a board but I would not participate. I am a bit of a prude when it comes to porno stuff and sex talk on the internet.

Sex is great, but I got bored with naked dancing women years ago and while a little double entendre is great, open discussion of sexual things on the internet is not for me and it is detrimental to friendships, IYAM.
For a reasonable fee, I will quell minor outbreaks, enforce quarantines, and dispatch infected relatives.

I was always of the opinion that sex was not a spectator sport. If one is not playing in the game there is no need to sell tickets or invite an audience. Apart from the occasional risque innuendo or double entendre, it's not really something I care to discuss.

Back in the day,  :zombiekill:  there was usually some guy in any given group of guys numbering 6-12 who seemed to think it was cool to bring in some hooker or other piece of hide, and proceed to have some version of sex while a poker game was ongoing in another corner of the room.

It was not an erotic scene. It was a laugh your ass off at that jerk, scene. I never had any respect for those guys before or after they put themselves on that level.

I would be surprised if you don't know that guy.

I personally believe that more sex has been talked about in the discussion within this thread about not talking about sex in a private forum than any sex would probably be talked about in a private forum, but then again, I'm pretty much like most on here, I don't care much for visiting the internet to get me going, I visit the internet to talk about zombies and read funny news stories.
