One has to only look a couple of millenia back, perhaps as early as during Roman times, to appreciate how it all came together (violence, death and sex). It's a built-in characteristic of the species in the presence of anarchy.
Dale was stuck with pre-apocalyptic values and his issue with Randall's human rights, was blown out of proportion. The rascal had to die, after all he shot at them first.

Well there was this one time down in New Orleans. There's this bar named Boys Will Be Girls. She said she felt like a girl. I took the lady's word for it. I didn't feel around to see if she felt right. Didn't want her to think I was saying she was a liar. She was the prettiest girl I ever met in New Orleans?

Lol I thought it was pretty morbid too but they're only fictional people so it can't be that bad... right?

That being said, I still want to see Carl die, as it would relieve me of ever having to watch his character again. But I'm not sure I would like the repercussions his death would have on Rick or the group. Which is why, if the writers are going to kill anyone off, I hope they show the effects it's going to have on certain characters. i.e. When Sophia died, I was extremely surprised at the profound affect it had on Daryl, that was good writing. Opinions?

So one night I called her father up to see if he would visit her. He said he would except all my wife wanted to talk about was my son and I quote, "It gets kind of old."
I thought a second and then told him these exact words, "You know you're old. One day soon you're gonna die, and when you do, I hope you're alone and I hope it hurts. When you do die I'm going to laugh."
Flash forward a few months and pops is sitting down at home alone with his lunch. Well the old ticker gives out. Judging from the mess he left, it wasn't that quick. Yes I laughed. As a matter of fact while I sit here writing this and think about him trying to suck up that last breath while pissing in his pants there is a smile on my face.
That's the kind of cold heated motherf##ker I am. I really don't care if anyone thinks I'm evil either. I am comfortable in my own skin.
Having said that. I find it rather sickening when people wish the death of even a fictional character that has done no harm to anyone else. These characters include a battered woman whose child has died and a child who made a mistake. I don't judge any of you. That's way above my pay grade. I just state my feeling on the subject. If that appears harsh, well I'm a harsh person
John 8.7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Call me hypocrite for saying this. I really don't care. I've seen and done things most of you can't imagine. I know what I am and make no pretense otherwise. And as I said, I am comfortable in my own skin.

On a lighter note: I'd also like to point out that I have never wished death on any character. Maybe Lori for like 2 seconds but only cause I was mad at her then I regretted it. Check my posts... honest engine! And I'm happy about this because I'd prefer not to become one with your mulch.

The first three lines describe when you were off the forum for a little while. I would never think the fourth line about you. Trust me I'm honest. More than a touch wicked, but honest.

I think Carol should die as a way to give Daryl an awesome character arc (because I think Carol should kill herself after feeling intentionally or unintentionally rejected by Daryl and then Daryl feeling responsible).
I think Lori should die by zombie fetus eating its way out of her because (I think) such a zombie death has never happened before... and yes, she irritates me to no end, and getting rid of her would be nice in general. I also think it's very unrealistic to have a family unit in tact for so long. Rick and Carl need to feel the true devastation of this new world and lose her to give them more development too.
Sure, Carol and Lori are my least favorite characters on the show, so maybe that's why I want them to go sooner rather than later, but eventually, I want them ALL to die. In the very last season or very last episode preferably, I even want my beloved Daryl to die sacrificing himself to save the group. I think such a selfless sacrifice of the one person most capable of surviving in this new world would be the perfect end for him. (CJ's character and death in the remake of Dawn of the Dead were my favorites in that movie.)
They should all die eventually, and only Carl remains in the last scene of the last episode to face the new world alone ina bleak ending.

Okay, you I don't have a problem with. Wanting a death to advance the story line is fine. This is fiction and fictional characters die just as real people die. You have a vision of how you want the story to progress
My complaint was, the I don't like them so I want them to die mentality. Fact imitates fiction sometimes and it makes me wonder what really in the minds of some people.
You get a big gold star for bringing up C.J. from DOD remake. My favorite character. He went from being a real d##k to a selfless hero. It was a classic film scene when he was in the bus on the dock. When the dead were all over him and he popped that road flare, said, "F##ckin' Figures, then shot the propane tank, I was sad but happy at the same time. He had found redemption, his death saved others,
he sacrificed himself for others to end as a hero.
A very moving scene, magnificent acting and production. Very good post, journeynsolace.

Its really odd, how Walking Dead fans of the TV series have divided into a sub group of people complaining about lack of action. Walking Dead isn't about action. It never has been. Killing zombies is a side-plot to the show.
On another note... Yes... We all want Carl to die. But, there is no chance in hell they are going to kill him unless they decide to go complete ape shit and kill Carl instead of...

If they wanted to depict life as it truly would be in ZA, then we would see people die of simple things. We take our health for granted in the modern age. A trip to the third world is an eye opener.
I once saw a man nick his index finger on a tool. Three days later his hand was three times normal size. He had to be evaced and spent two weeks in a hospital on iv antibiotics. If he had been one of the locals he would have simply died.
In primitive conditions people die from problems everyday that are easily cured in developed countries. Toss in poor nutrition and contaminated water and they die like flies.
The medical treatment we take for granted is actually a fairly recent development. My maternal grandparents and six month old great uncle died in the Spanish Flu epidemic in 1920. My paternal uncle died of tuberculosis in 1953. My brother died of a congenital heart ailment in 1972 when he was 23. All easily curable today.
Now think about the group in TWD. Do any of them have high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, a heart condition? What if they develop these conditions? What if Lori's baby is born with a birth defect. What if one of them gets appendicitis? What if they develop a simple infection with no antibiotics available? What about dental care? What if one of them needs glasses to correct their vision.
So much we take for granted would suddenly become very important if it was taken away.

In the show though, I think the stand-out example of lol-medical-care stupidity has to be that scene in "18 Miles Out" where Rick cuts himself, on the hand of all places, in order to smear blood on a fence. Which is then repeated by Shane with a... dirty knife.
Also what is ignored is the prospects for the reemergence of epidemics of infectious disease. Now, granted, we have antibiotics now, but those won't last forever, and between corpses lying everywhere and the utter collapse of our First World sanitation and water systems you'd probably be seeing a lot of epidemics going around killing a lot of people (who will then get back up to eat those who remain, fun times!).

I totally agree with this post! I made some similar comments a few weeks ago too about what I'd love to see on the show and one of the big ones was to see some characters with chronic illnesses that wouldn't cause them to be unable to survive at first, but they would become problems eventually, like having diabetes, asthma, a heart condition, etc.
I remember mentioning The Stand in that post because of how King had described the "second wave" of deaths of people who were immune to Captain Trips but then died of things like appendicitis or just general accidents. That was one of my favorite parts of the book, and I'd love to see that in The Walking Dead. Hershel could handle trauma and know what to prescribe for chronic illnesses in most cases, but where would they get meds, like insulin or inhalers if those things have already been scavenged by others?
Oh, and yes, CJ's death was just perfect for him. He really developed into the true hero of that movie! Thanks for sharing the CJ love!
