Just saying "hi".

Hope i'm not mistaken for a walker and end up with my head blown off / traumatic brain injury because I walk with a limp lol....

Seems like a friendly forum. hope to make a few friends and pass on some tips / tricks.

The fens... Now that may well be a good place to hide out from any walker attack. I think you may just survive. Good to see you on the board! Are you Gt Yarmouth, Norwich, Ipswich, Posh or what?

Hi Texaxile, what's your take on American survivors running around with guns and knives? The reason I ask is that I have some bushcraft friends in the UK that have to hide their knives while on camping trips and I imagine guns would be rare. Have you wondered what UK survival would be like in this global apocalypse?

Hi Notawalkeryet

you're right, the UK gun laws are draconian to say the least - and by my own admision I know very little , if anything about current legislation, but afaik it extends to no firearms (pistols) above .22 , no semi automatic rifles at all, shotguns are allowed to be kept in the home but can only have a maximum of 2 shots if a pump action. Rifles of certain calibers can be used for hunting or pest control but in all truth I have no idea the details.

Knife laws again are becoming stricter, carrying one is a serious offence but fortunately obtaining them is relatively easy if you're over 21 in many dealers (despite the law stating over 18). It's possible to buy a Machete from any hardware store although the quality varies, and Ex military ones are hard to find.
Survival in the UK would be tough, challenging, but not impossible. All our houses are brick built and mostly 2 / 3 story with attic space. A row of terraces could be transformed into a half decent defensible structure, and as many of our housing estates are closely packed, it would be easy to arrange barricades to form a bottleneck. We don't have any mountains to retreat to, or deserts to hunker down in. Even our forested areas are relatively small, so I think urban survival would take precedence. There is always the option of heading out to sea and maybe getting on an offshore rig, there are also a few (literally) old WW2 gun batteries about 3 miles offshore (one local to me is called "Sealand" which is it's own principality (have a look on google)

There are also several old historical fortified buildings,Ex and decomissioned Nuclear bunkers, a few military bases and some high security commercial buildings.

I think, overall the Americans would have a greater chance, you have more space, easier access to firearms. Vigilante groups and bandit groups would add to a concern though.

Aw Tex, you live close to the Maunsell Forts? Lucky git! They'd be the perfect place to live the dream...

Even better would be: Palmerston Forts

In terms of forested areas and rural living you may need to head north. The border counties (both sides) are sparsely populated with some good-sized hills and such like, and also Kielder, which I think could be a great place to set up camp.

Hi,

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Barry, around our area there are numerous Martello towers (http://en.wikipedia..../Martello_tower) which are perhaps a good option, it's really just a case of adequate security on the front door, I think they even come with Deep Wells (probably long since sealed though). I'd probably stay put and keep my head down, and use the local knowledge I've got to try and maintain an advantage. I would imagine on the day of reckoning the Satnav system would be down, so i'd have to rely upon the Map reading skills I learnt as a cub scout....

Lets hope I never have to utilise it....

Cheers

Tex
