Not sure if this has come up, I skimmed the posts that seemed related. Does anyone think that Shane and Ricks relationship as friends would have deteriorated, if Lori was out of the equation? Everything on the show still happened except that Lori and Shane always remained platonic friends, and Rick showed up alive.

Great question. It obviously wouldn't have played out the same, but I think it still would've ended the way it did with Shane's admiration for Lori coming to light and ultimately dying by Rick's hands. Incentive to this would be Shane sticking around for another season or so and not going bonkers until at least season 3 (he would start to unravel at the end of season 2 rather than at the end of season 1).
Great question though.

I think if Lori and Shane had not hooked up there wouldn't have been as much friction between Shane and Rick but I do think they still would have disagreements just beause they had different views on what the group should do and even if Lori was out of the equation they would still have those differences.

I still think there would have been some level of competition because something told me that they'd had that kind of sibling-rivalry, friend rivalry throughout their years. I do think there'd probably be a point where they wouldn't agree and would likely separate from each other though. And with the potential for a real brother of Rick's to show up, that could drive a wedge further.
Where's the blacksmith??!!!!

I think they still would have had their different views, but many things may not have happened if Shane wasn't interested in Lori. A prime example is when Shane tried to kill Rick in "Better Angels", he done that because he wanted Lori and Carl for himself and he wouldn't have done that if Shane wasn't interested in Lori, so maybe Shane would still be alive.

Wait... what? Is that a comic spoiler? Does Rick have a brother show up or was that hypothetical?
It's all daft. Daft like buggery, innit?

He does have a brother, but (correct me if I'm wrong) he hasn't shown up in the comic yet, he was only mentioned.
I'm up to like 84 or something, but for some reason I don't remember that. #mymemorysux
I'd give you a +1 but I'm all out.

Personally, I think Shane was a ticking time bomb and if it wan't this, then eventually something would have set him off. Shane was his own worst enemy. The constant questioning over the leadership role would have become a bigger and bigger issue between him and Rick.

It's an interesting question SweetSister. To answer your question, I believe Rick and Shane would have eventually had a falling out, because they are polar opposites in their viewpoints. I believe they could have never come to an agreement. They would have eventually been at odds. However, without the love triangle it may not have come down to Shane dying. However Shane was a bit off to begin with.
Every drama has to have a protagonist and antagonist, or hero and villain if you prefer. Other wise we have no one to identify with and no one to despise. So one of the other characters would have to assume the role of villain, or a new character would have to be brought in.
The story arc could have taken a totally different route. The possibilities are endless.

All great thoughts, thanks. I just kept thinking that here are 2 friends (brothers) who mention their love for one anothe were best friends in highschool and even become partners as cops. From what I gather from the show the 2 guys had diffrent ways to go about things but complimented each other. Shanes argument with Ricks leadership seemed centered arround doing whats best for Lori and Carl. I just thought this sucks, Lori is manipulating 2 guys who were probably friends before she entered the picture, and her relationship with Rick was a bit rocky before he got shot. Ifelt (feel) bad for both guys.

On the Grimes family front, we've seen all of them that actually make an appearance in the comics i.e. Rick, Lori, Carl and baby to be (I wonder if TV will keep the same name and sex from the comic) in the TV series so far. There is a mention of Rick's brother but it has no plot connection and it's only briefly mentioned in an off-handed way but it's very subtle, so subtle part of me wants to say that RK was laying groundwork for him to eventually appear.
I always subscribed to the theory that by issue 100, Rick will die and be replaced by this randomly mentioned brother and we will see the group expect him to be like Rick and him not being Rick having pressure to perform. But that's just conjecture and absolutely no insight into what's going to happen.

Thank you Xavier. (I could really use a re-read)
As far as the love triangle goes, from the sounds of it, they didn't fight or disagree before Lori or the ZA, so I believe it was one of those 2 things that made the difference. But probably a combination of both.
