A spear and a sledgehammer!

What better weapon could you ask for? All you need to be is somewhat in shape and imagine the damage those could do all while staying silent?! You don't need ammo, you rarely if ever need repairs, and it's sure to kill.

The spear is sure to work. We've seen how Shane and Rick have stabbed walkers through the skulls with knives. With a spear you could do it from a much further distance. Granted you could only take on 2 zombies at a time, or 3 if you're Daryl. You can't go wrong with a sledge hammer as a backup. Any hit to the head would cause knock-out of instant death due to blunt force trauma. You just can't afford to miss at that range, which shouldn't be too much of a problem though.

What do you folks think of these old weapons? Which would you chose for this apocalypse?

I wrote in another post I would like to have a silenced P90 and a metal Bat. As for a sledge hammer its way too heavy and unwieldy to be used as a serious weapon. A WW2 trench mace would be nice for up close work in confined spaces. Also I think a spartan shield would be a vaualbe defense item as well. You would have to choose your weapon depending on the occasion and light weight is a must if you need to make a tactical retreat. A few M67 frags would be nice to clear out groups also.

Frags? Those would be worthless as they cause shrapnel wounds. You'd need a concussion grenade to mess up their brains.

Leonidas and the rest of the 300 Spartans would have got rid of the zombies ASAP, no questions asked. Seriously though, zombie movies/television show characters never fail to impress me with their lack of creativity. Like in the episode when Shane and Otis go to the school, more specifically the part they're trapped in the gym. A Spear, a sword, hell a kebab skewer, anything long and pointy. There were like 15 of them, come on guys. If they just stabbed them all to death, they might not have got injured jumping out of windows and both would have survived. I guess things happen for a reason, look at the bright side, if Otis didn't die we wouldn't have seen Shane's cool haircut.

I think the best weapon in a ZA is a P90 like the one above, 50 round magazine. Not sure on the accuracy though, to be honest. The best weapon that isn't a gun would differ for each person. You give a Boxer some time of sword attached to his fist, something like Baraka from Mortal Kombat. You give a baseball player a baseball bat, can you imagine Alex Rodriquez with an aluminium bat? That's a one hitter quitter right there. Everyone else gets a spear or a sword.

I'd go for a heavy tin can in a sock. I'd take it out of the sock for close-quarters work, or indeed cooking a delicious meal afterwards. And I'd wear the sock.

First, you need a fork, a puppet and some fresh blood. Put the fork inside of the puppet (a sock puppet, it's easy to found) and use the fresh blood.
What will happen: The zombie will bite the puppet with a fork inside, and the fork will cross the head of the zombie, killing the zombie.
Now, you have a homemade trap.

Everyone is food for something.
Now, I just need to find something that eats zombies.

... do you know what... it may just work... fork; puppet; fork; puppet...

i'd go with just a bolt action rifle with a bayonet. shoot em from the distance. Get too close? Stick em in the head with your bayonet without having to waste seconds and energy switching to close range weapon. Rinse and Repeat. But a spear would be a great weapon.

P90 would be ok if you could find the ammo. 5.7 isn't available in many places.
I would just go for a 10/22 silenced with subsonics, and a p22 done the same way. Parts and ammo readily available. I would bet every other home with guns has a 10/22 in the us. Rope and tape wrapped crowbar for hand to hand.

Shields would be good but you don't need Spartan sized, all you would need is a Buckler shield to fend off bites and even crush a skull in a pinch.

The spear idea might be okay if it is a short spear. You will still need practice, practice, practice to penetrate a skull without hitting the eye socket. A spear is more of a soft tissue weapon. Aimed poorly, It will have a tendency to glance off of the skull leaving an ugly tissue wound that won't faze a zombie.
For a reasonable fee, I will quell minor outbreaks, enforce quarantines, and dispatch infected relatives.

The biggest problem with the spear is even if you manage to get it though the skull(big "if") it would most likely get stuck and you would be eaten by other Zs before you could remove it. A war hammer or mace is probably your best bet for a melee weapon. They are designed to brain ppl in a combat situation quickly and quietly.

Edit: and as far as the shield goes, chose a spartan because it would protect from more than one Z and could be used to brain a Z in a pinch like if you hear one right behind you.

10/22 like this

I'm not sure where your going with the wrapped crow bar but I would prefer a actual melee weapon actually design to brain ppl in combat.

Shrapnel to the head tends to mess with the brain and the shrapnal would damage limbs limiting mobility as well. A concussion grenade does not have as much of a kill radius unless its used indoors and it may break some eardrums but actually destroying the brain? It would practically have to land on top of a Z to destroy the brain.

Wrapping helps with shock to the hands and gives for friction for pulling/grip. We do it to our tools at the fire house. Smack a metal object against something hard and see how your hands feel after. Put a dab of oil/zombie blood on a smooth metal object and swing it around, hard to hold onto.

I will give that guy a +1 for ingenuity I will leave it at that.

I notice no-one has been able to disparage the heavy tin can in a good quality sock as of yet...

My theory is that once the sock and object of choice breaks a hole in the skull like in video below at 1:18 the sock tears and you loose your object placed inside of sock.
