Hey everyone, I have been on here quite a few times as I am addicted to this show as are many of you. Well I have a theory after watching last night's show and I had to join just to share and see what everyone thinks.

So as you know the two cops were infected without any bite marks, Rick suggests it must be through scratches, but I think we all agree something is up. I am not sure if this has been posted yet, but here is my thought...(I am going to filter it through a spoiler button)

Possibly. Although in that scene Rick did mention that one cop has scratches on his hand and the other cop had scratches on his cheek. This was an interesting scene and

It seemed like he said that to move on to bringing Randall to the drop off point. Like he knew what really happened.

Interesting Theory.

I thought when he double checked the bodies he realized that you don't have to be bit or scratched to become infected. I might be way off though.

If the smoke infected people wouldn't some of the group at the farm be zombies already. I thought they burned some zombies there.

The problem with the everyone is already infected theory is continuity.  All those dead bodies in the cars they looted at the traffic jam should all have been active Z's unless someone went through every car shooting them all sometime in the past.

Everyone already infected does make sense since they have thrown away  casual or superficial infected blood as a source of infection. Almost every episode someone ends with Z blood on their face or hands an no infections.

I always feel like I'm nit picking when I bring that up. I feel it's a big deal though.

I think it's a very creative theory and nothing has happened so far to disprove it, so no one can really deem it wrong. However, I just can't see the writers taking this route because Shane and T-Dog were burning bodies last episode and so far Shane hasn't shown signs of turning.

I also strongly believe that everybody is already infected and that when you die, that is when you become reanimated whether the death is by walker bite or its by starvation. I have no idea how those two guards died though.

There are a couple of things that I wanted to address in this thread.  The Z's in the cars that were dead was a question that Kirkman frantically tried to explain on The Talking Dead after show.  He said they could have died from any sort of head trauma.  He didn't say they could have died lots of ways, he specified head trauma.  Meaning the only way to really kill someone is, you guessed it, head trauma.  In the moment he looked pained to answer it like that because he knew if he didn't describe it like that, he would have people nagging him about his statement.  I'm still not sure as to what it was that Jenner said to Rick.  I'm pretty sure Kirkman said it would be revealed this season.

I may be splitting hairs here, but there is a difference between being "infected" and being symptomatic.

One can be infected with something which can lie dormant and not show the ultimate result for a considerable period of time (think HIV).

In this case, the catalyst for transformation is death.  Now we know that walker bites are lethal - lead to the fever, death, eventual turn.

However, one could be infected and just carry the. . .whatever it is.

I seriously doubt that we will ever get an effective explanation for what this is.  Of course, we logical folks will continue to look for one, so let's carry on with the theorizing!  :)

I am a little slow, but could the title of show then imply that "the walking dead" isn't just the zombies, but the actual people themselves?

That has actually been said by the writer/creator. Walking Dead refers to the survivors.

Good catch! That would be a perfect way to explain why none of those people had reanimated...I'm actually a little impressed with the writers because that would have been a large loop hole. Thanks for sharing.

In the comics ricks most famous line ever is "we are the walking dead" and not to be mean or rude but that smoke theory is proposurous the group have burned about 20 bodys they have nothing i think rick just didnt want to tell.shane there all infected because he knows what a dangerous idiot he is or rick just doesnt believe it yet he hasnt seen anyone die without being bit or shot in the head so he hasnt been able to put his theory to the test... And kirkman has said numerous times that the people on the highway have suffered some type of head trauma

I find that highly unlikely.  All smoke is is incinerated matter.  Chances are a virus, microbe, fungi, parasite could not stand the heat.

Yet smokers get cancer and other diseases from incinerated matter, so what's to say this hasn't been a long time coming due to prolonged exspoure?

So you are suggesting that second hand smoke caused the apocalypse?
