Welp considering I play plants vs zombies on my iphone i could have to agree that you would need some sort of explosive!

With that said grenades or learn how to make something out of house hold shyt that you could find while looking for food.  Plastik ala terminator!

why do you have to be a commie?  I am just saying, if for whatever reason you dont have access to a gun.  Lets say your in the middle of it all and you never had a need for a rifle or a hand gun.  Like most americans living in large cities, what could you get without seeming deliverancish that could save your ar se in any sort of social unrest,

i have a bad ass 26 inch saw back machete that would be my primary , i would also want a solid 24 inch crow bar. got a 32 inch at work that is a bit much for prolong use and i got a 16 at home that feels light ,i think the 24 would be perfect.   i will say i have throw around the idea of carrying a six or eight foot pike pole, but i am still debating if the pros out weigh the cons with that. of course if i am at work i have an entire toy box full of melee weapons to choose from. from ax's to sledge hammers, and haligon tools. take you pick hell i would prolly opne the door and hand stuff out so people would have a fighting chance.

dont worry a lot of americans love to buy guns, but for some reason they hate to keep more ammo then the gun can hold in their house. i cant tell you how many times i would go shoot with friends and they would have no ammo and woukld have to stop at the store every time we went. they are all going to have to resort to a melee weapon.

My list would be as follows:

1) Crossbow:  Bolts are super-cheap and you're going to need a ranged weapon.
2) Crowbar:  Crowbars are so versatile for prying open doors, killing zombies, etc.
3) Roofer's Hatchet:  This is such a cool tool.  An axe on one side and a hammer on the other.  The axe side has a notch for removing nails, etc.
4) Survival Knife:  Purely because it has always worked for Rambo.
5) Machete: Of course you need one.  Ideally I would go with one that was smooth on both sides so that you don't get snagged on anything when trying to pull it out of a zombie skull.

Non weapon, but good potentially good distraction tools could possibly be fireworks, road flares, flare guns, etc. depending on how intelligent they are.  Attached File  flirting-sex-zombies-walking-dead-ecards-someecards.png   95.16K   9 downloads

I would carry a 6 1/2 foot long dragon pole made out of 1 1/2 inch thick hickory. A bowie knife and a Mora neck knife. I used the dragon pole on a rottweiler that was going to bite me so I know it works.

My list is identical to yours! Good list. I'd replace Roofers Hatchet with Tomahawk because I own a few and the handles are longer. I'd also add a Spetnatz type shovel-Cold Steel makes them and for survival knife the Cold Steel Bushman because it could double as a spear head on the end of my walking stick. My non-weapon would be a Nerf ball cut out with an egg timer embedded into it and duct taped into place.

I would have to say ....
1. Ax, it would be good for close range anything skull splitting or decap
2. Ceiling Pike...its good for long range disabling
3. K-Bar always good for short range, and can be thrown with accuracy for long range.

My family and I are firefighters so we know what to use that is close and accessible

Do they still have Halligan bars at the firehouse? Might get a little heavy in a long fight, still?

And let me say that "If you couldn't carry any guns" is the scariest beginning to any question I've ever been asked.

Nothing crazy, just a machete, crossbow, metal bat, anything that explodes is cool, and a knife. You must always have a knife. Also, a sticker of Chuck Norris could also be helpful.

For everyone who seems to think golf clubs and molotovs are really effective tools, stop and think about the nature of the threat. These are undead killing machines, that never tire, never stop, never break. They also are immune to pain, and will use all the muscles and bones of their bodies to the fullest extent, heedless of the damage. The only way to kill them is a decisive brain injury, which is protected by the evolutionary equivalent of a helmet. And you really want to take a swing with a bendable golf club that will break shortly after the abuse you put it through? You really think that you'd get one swing, one kill?

Ok, my 2 cents.  First, I don't want bitten...  My primary weapon is gonna have a handle (preferably long).  Second, I don't want to get tired using it so its gonna have to be light and probably something designed to be used all day (as in farm work or forestry).  I own several katanas and they certainly would be my weapon of choice if I was going to get into a sword fight with a zombie but not for downing them in one stroke and moving on.  Say what you will about head shots and beheading but neck bones are solid and swords tend to stick in skulls making them a single use instrument (stabbing a zombie that cannot feel pain is pointless as is chopping off their limbs).  Farm tools folks...  Long handles...  something that won't stick in your adversary and that you can swing all day and destroy the brain.

1.  Hedge knife (I included a picture for those who haven't seen one)
2.  Nice light double bit axe.
3.  Blunt instrument like a pick handle rigged with a sling for last resort.

Distance weapon...  Nope, they ain't close, not my problem.  My thoughts on guns vary.  If they are rotting corpses can't see how they can hear you and be attracted, on the other hand if they can hear a gunshot, ringing the dinner bell repeatedly just sounds like a bad idea.

I like the roofers hatchet.  Light, hang it from your belt for last line of defense and the looters tool crowbar would be a required item to keep yourself fed and sheltered as well as work as a defensive weapon

Me too. And also a tin can of soup in a sock. I think the tin can wins it as afterwards you can have a tasty snack.

EDIT: Must make sure the sock is of a good quality; it'd be no good having a George at Asda (Wal-Mart for our overseas friends) one.

I'm an Asian living in S.E Asia... We dont have the privilege to own guns.. Any sharp weapon also will be consider as a crime. Therefore this is my list to weapon.

a butcher knife from my neighbor who is apparently a  butcher
Machete
a makeshift broom-spear
a shovel
an axe
a bamboo stick. (looks can be deceiving)

I live in an Asian country too (I'm American)  where swords and machetes are illegal. I just bought a "billhook" head and put it on a one foot, cherry wood handle.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billhook

In my opinion it's better than a machete. More weight in the head and you can hook with it. I use it in the bush for clearing brush and cleaning off cut bamboo.
With the longer handle you get a hell of a swing.

Instead of a broom spear you can use an old kitchen knife attached to a good, young bamboo pole or a cured pole. Sink the knife handle into the shaft and use strong steel baling wire to hold it on. I use mine for frogging.

Totally agree with the bamboo stick, although with some cutting you can also make a natural headed spear from cut bamboo-and as we both know its growing everywhere. You could make a 16 foot "pike" if you wanted to.

Shovels are great too. (See my other post)

I use a tomahawk instead of an axe because they're lighter to carry and easier to throw. I have a SOG which is almost too sharp to carry and two Cold Steel Trail Hawks/Tomahawks.

I live in the netherlands, where you can have a gun, but only if you are a member of a shooting club and you have to ask permission to the chief of police in your area. However, I have seen enough zombie movies to know that using guns usually gets you into trouble. I would stick to knives, hammers, blunt objects etc. Maybe find a big machete or katana, just a bit hard to find around here, I think.

I should be able to beat slow zombies as seen in TWD.

Hi,

It's also a question of what is readily available. Here in the UK we can buy Machetes from any hardware store, but the quality is abysmal, and after a bit of hacking through bone it'll blunt off. the cheap Machete's are all made in China, and trying to get hold of an Ex military one is a challenge.

for ease of use, someone before mentioned "rebar". for those of you unfamiliar with Rebar, it is short for "(steel) reinforcing bar and can be found on any building site (sometimes used to weigh and hold cones in place - but it's specifically for reinforcing concrete during construction), it's about 1/2" thick and is knurled.

you could sharpen the end with a grinder to make a very effective stabbing tool for the head, as it's fairly weighty you'll need to train your arms because swinging 5 foot of steel around is hard. Probably best to use it for stabbing. you could also throw into the mix a Hickory pickaxe handle with a couple of 5 / 6 " spikes through the end to cause brain trauma, again thses are heavy but easily available and tough.

for any kind of range I'd go with a crossbow or composite bow, but your accuracy has got to be half decent, it's possible to miss as 20 yards with one of these, and the reload time could leave you vulnerable. For really close range stuff I'd go with a hand axe, a pick of some description or for improvisation, again some sharp rebar which you can plunge into said maggot sacks brain.

Edited by Texaxile, 16 April 2012 - 04:51 PM.

I got me a plan - it's called "save ass"
