Hey Guys:
I'm pretty sure the writers don't write wasted dialogue, Shane didn't hear Ricks heartbeat in the Hospital.

Do you think this means he really did die and came back to life. If thats the case the virus has something to do with Rick and his autopilot brain in coma has something to do with it.

Assuming all of this is true, and assuming Rick is thus SPECIAL. What and how do you think happened to him to make him special? And what is he?

I have my takes, especially since S1E6 Finale explains how the virus works, infecting the brain first and then shutting down the organs. How does the virus infect a brain dead Rick? Makes you think. I'd like to hear some real theories here. Let me know!

Lol this reminds me of the fan theory where Ash Ketchum (Pokemon) was really in a comatose state and all his pokemon represented things like his sexuality or emotions.

Heres my favourite paragraph:

"Brock is Ash's repressed sexuality. He fell into the coma a virgin and needed an outlet for his growing sexual frustrations. Since he can never experience sex, Brock must never succeed. Brock is a projection of his sexuality, and is constantly shot down because Ash could never ?know? sex. Brock isn't just Ash's latent sexuality, he's also his fatherly instincts, neither of which Ash can come to terms with. Brock leaves his siblings to "journey" with Ash. because Ash can't cope with having that much responsibility, much as his foray with a real relationship ends on mysterious terms. Ash just cannot handle commitment at his mental level. Brock's Stay with professor Ivy was an.attempt to outright suppress his sexuality. You'll notice that James got much more dialogue in this part of the series, as well as getting more touchy feel-y with his pokemon and getting most of his backstory. Ash didn't enjoy this much, hence the reasons Brock comes back all horrified, and refuses to speak about it. (ash's subconscious was repressing him at the time, so other than a general feeling of dread he has no idea of what went on then.) This is also why brock keeps coming back to the series....Usually AFTER Ash meets a new girl aspect of himself.Misty is an image that Ash had of a girl. This is why she plays so prevalently in the series but is ultimately unattainable because he never really knew her before the coma. Likely the one that helped get him to a hospital. I have a theory in line with this: Since Misty was his initial love interest (if only subconsciously), he needed her to reach a level of womanhood. He felt that people could only have relationships when they've matured. But in practice, it turned out he couldn't cope with it and just wanted the normal, pushy, arrogant Misty he knew, and wouldn't let her keep Togepi anymore."

I was kind of surprised to see a trained law enforcement officer (Shane) put his head on Rick's chest to hear a heart beat when most know to check the jugular or wrist for a pulse...

But assuming that the OP is correct, then the question is if the virus has infected Rick and brought him back to life... REAL LIFE not grraaahhhuulll brrraaiinns  :zombietongueout: type of life... then there would be others like him who were in comas and resurrected. It's a good question but ... unfortunately over my head. LOL

Yes it is a far far speculation but thiats just how writers do it don't they? they make you go back and go OOOOH so thats why... to be honest this is the most wild but reasoned theory i can come up with. Somehow he was infected, but he was brought back to REAL life because of his Coma.

I agree though deadcave, others would be in the same boat, BUT how many others, and how many of them would have survived? in the end he might just be the last one left, thats why the story follows him you know?

Point is, he was dead, (i really think he was) and since Coma has alot to do with brain functionality and synapses, then its a really probable connection.

now i hope this is true.  i hope rick is a carrier for Z.  LOL  but if that's the case... oh holy shit, dude, it just hit me.  on The Talking Dead, they were asked about baby zombies.  you know, babies that are born zombies because their mother was infected while they were in the womb.  well, the response was that, "we're going to deal with that later in the show" or something along those lines.
lori is pregnant.  the baby is likely rick's.  rick is potentially a carrier.  thus, baby zombie.  or baby with a recessive zombie trait, perhaps.  maybe it's like tuberculosis.  just because you're a carrier, doesn't mean you're actually going to get a fullblown case, and can potentially pass it on to your children.  also, it may suggest that humans are evolving already - evolving to adapt to a world where zombie infection is a serious threat.  maybe the baby will be less susceptible because its very DNA contains Z genes.  do i mean genes?  i don't know.  someone else with more knowledge in this department is gonna have to step in and sort me out.  LOL

what's hilarious is, my boyfriend and i got into a... ridiculously heated argument over whether or not lori ought to abort.  i said yes, because the baby would be a burden, and would draw unwanted attention to them.  he said no, because the best chance for survival is to reproduce.  but with this new idea, we both have more ammo for our debate.  i can't wait for him to get back from india, specifically so i can spark this topic again!

A heartbeat is a B!t*h to listen to with gunfire, explosions, etc. to say nothing of the fight or flight instincts that ole Shane was fighting with. He wouldn't hear anything, but he obviously didn't want to believe it because he blocked the door instead of using him as a getaway Whopper with fries a la Otis.

I think Shane's memory of this day is a little biased.

I thought he did hear the heartbeat, thus he blocked the door with the hospital bed?

I think he just figured Rick was gonna die in the hospital anyway, plus he wanted Lori for himself, so he just told her whatever he wanted.

I think he lied just like he's lying about everything else.
I also think he had good intentions. He couldn't take Rick with him but he put the bed in front of the door and wished him the best of luck, and it worked. He made that choice and Rick ended up just fine. I really don't think he expected Rick to make it, though. That's why he moved on and started a thing with Lori. It seemed like they hid it from Carl and apparently not many people in the camp knew, if any at all.
He has good intentions and feels like he's doing the right thing, but other people don't get it. He also doesn't really think before he acts, he solely goes with his gut feeling.
Anyway, I think he lied!

I think it's questionable, just like a lot of the stuff he has done.
Some times people get themselves so into trying to make someone else believe something, that they start to believe it too.
He sure tried to perform in lying about Otis. However crappy that performance was.

welll welll welll welll... now that we know you can have the virus and still turn zombie, i'm pretty sure thats NOT what jenner told them. Jenner had to have told them something much much more important. On top of that Rick didn't know, he insisted that there had to have been bites on the dead. If Rick knew, he wouldn't haveeb surprised there wasn't bites. This means Rick has the Z gene! haha okay i jumped but im just saying, when this series is all over, don't forget this post. I called it out at Season 2, Rick has the anti virus and his BABY is the cure! the cure is in his blood! I AM LEGEND. oh my bad wrong show/movie

This isn't Lost.  TWD isn't about plot twists and slight of hand.  Anyone who has read the comics knows this isn't Kirkman's style.  It's a straightforward show about how people react and adapt to the destruction of society. The ZA is just a plot device that allows them to explore this.  I'd be all but willing to guarantee there won't be anything about immunity, resurrection to a living (not undead) state, and no one will be "special" (refer to point 1. This isn't Lost ... not that we ever got an explanation for what being "special" meant anyway, but I digress).

Yes I know, the show isn't following the comics word-for-word, but it is capturing their tone in exacting detail, and this sort of sci-fi plot twist stuff just does not fit with that at all.

No way, Rick didn't die, end of story.  If his heart had actually been stopped, it wouldn't have just started again with no medical intervention, and clearly there was no further medical intervention.

The problem is, it was completely lame that Shane tried to 'listen" for Rick's heart. Like, duh, obviously you aren't going to hear it! It has to be pretty silent to hear a heartbeat.  He should have taken his pulse like any other police officer would have.  I think Shane really believed he was dead, but he was an idiot for the way he checked.
