great issue, fingers crossed for peace. i'm hoping the commonwealth doesn't divide everyone, but that is kind of the bcw's mo so if thy're borrowing the name they'll probably borrow that too and force everyone to assimilate into their capitalist economy. it honestly makes sense that most people resume their previous occupations if they haven't acquired any new skills but its dumb af to force them to take those positions... i can see war breaking out if they try to install new leaders at the asz/ht/k/os/s but i don't think war will break out over some communities choosing to stay independent, unless the cw forces the other communities to freeze trade with them.... aow was ww2 i wonder if this will be the war of independence... i swear if rick fucks with a shipment of tea, i'll lose all the respect ive slowly gained back for him... i'd honestly rather just do away with war and politics after this arc and just see the comic focus on personal drama, survival, and clearing walkers. i never needed the big bads (which is why im glad negan evolved) and i think the pre gov prison arcs were the best.
john is cool, im kinda shipping him with pam. i like dwight and laura. i'm excited to see eugene with velma. it was cool seeing rick begin walk out of the thick of his grief. i dont get why maggie was so openly bitchy, seemed out of character.
Will just copy and paste what I wrote in another forum about this issue
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good issue. It was a story that needed to get done and it was good that Kirkman decided to contain it all within one issue and not drag it out for multiple issues.
Interesting that Rick said in this issue that it had been months that they had been working on the new building. I think we talked about it a couple issues back and agreed that it had only been a few weeks. So maybe there has been a bit of timeskipping going on that they didn't outright acknowledge. Then again I guess we could stretch it out to a month or month and half if we say that two or three days passed at certain points when we thought only one day passed.
I guess Magna and Yumiko are back in their house screwing again. Hopefully those two don't disappear for another 15 issues. I'd bet you if those characters prove to be well liked in the show Kirkman will start using them more in the comic.
I'm hoping Negan doesn't come back into the picture again. He got a good send off and if he had little purpose in the story before he definitely doesn't now. Little point in having Negan around when you have stormtroopers everywhere you turn.
Believe it or not I'm becoming anxious to see Lydia once again. I looked at the wiki page and she hasn't been in the comic since issue 173. This is one thing that frustrates me about Kirkman's style of storytelling is how he just drops characters for a year or two worth of comic releases. If he doesn't know what to do with particular characters it would be cool if he gave reasons for why they havn't been around for awhile. He could easily have Carl mention something about that she was helping someone with something. But instead we are made to assume she is exactly right there walking around the Hilltop grounds just a little bit offscreen but the guy writing the story has no desire to put her in at this time.
Was it just me or did it appear that Governor Pam was hitting on Rick at the end? I hope she's not one of those that thinks she can seduce someone to her opinion. I'm still not liking or trusting her. Yay Maggie for not trusting her either.
I did enjoy visiting The Sanctuary, Kingdom and Hilltop. It's always good to see that the communities are progressing and taking care of each other. Mercer's becoming more likable. I think he's listening to Rick and getting it.
Also loved the reunion with Rick and Carl as well as Dwight opening up to Rick and having Laura.
I got that impression to at the end when she put her hand on his knee area. Hard to say exactly what direction it will go but I do think Kirkman wanted to end the issue on that exact question on rather she was flirting with Rick or not and what that might mean. I imagine though we will find out that she is already hooked up with someone.

It would definitely help make that one letter from a while ago that someone wrote in about Carl putting Sebastian in his place. They could be step brothers, haha. Even though Pamela looks somewhat young at times, she should be somewhere in her 40s, right? Having a son like Sebastian, who’s in his presumably early to mid 20s, she should be in her late 40s, I’d think.

I don't know. That is only what the wiki says and we all know that the wiki shouldn't be taken for gospel on a lot of things. No official ages have been given for either character and to me Sebastian seems like he is being made out to be more of a late teens character than a twenty something character (taking girls out to the middle of nowhere to try to score with them is something more associated with teens than it is twenty somethings( and also the way his mom berates him is more associated with teens than twenty somethings)). And he is displaying a lot of the spoiled rich highschool kid clichés we see in a lot of movies as well.
As far as Pamela all we can say is that she is intended to be about the same age as Rick I think
Oh God I hope not. He has had no point in the story for years now. Only reason he wasn't killed off long ago is because the character is an avenue for Kirkman to dish out pervy comments.
Well agree to disagree. Negan has been the only interesting character in this book for quite awhile at least for me.........
"Yeah, let's fuck this dog."
As for skills. People learn new ones. Not only that but you pick stuff up along the way. So I will still stand by what I said. Michonne was a lawyer. Look at her with a sword. So she gives up being one good thing for another. I just don't see the point in having lawyers atm.
mich was a fencer in college so her sword skills are also pre-za. i think their world needs her to be both. she's a great fighter, one of their best, but if she couldve mediated or arbitrated some of the conflicts that led to the deaths of aggressive parties, then they could've spared more people. take pete for example, he was an abusive piece of shit but he was also a doctor, the monroes let him be abusive and rick decided he had to die, but if they had a legit legal system, they couldve punished him and continued to use him as a doctor. michonne's brains couldve been just as useful as her brawn.
Bug, that's more generous than i would've been with him, i would've basically confined him to his quarters after the work day, banned him from alcohol, banned him from talking to Jesse, and only allowed supervised visits with the kid, if the kid wanted to see him. michonne ended up being the level headed one in the situation, but she was given the role of police officer so she could only enforce what mr monroe wanted, rather than suggest using legal measures. anyways her skills as a lawyer couldve helped in many ways, than again, she had abandoned old michonne and didn't want to step up into a leadership position... anyway my point is that a judicial system is important in establishing a just society where people dont kill each other because they have beef.
I would not say I "liked" Negan or forgave him but his story was the most interesting plotline Kirkman has come up with for awhile.
John is in an interesting position. If he is truly surrounded by bad people and is a good person himself how long before he turns into another Negan to keep power?
anyway my point is that a judicial system is important in establishing a just society where people dont kill each other because they have beef.
Yeah but how much fun is that going to be.....I like beef........and death........

I’m a bit confused, what about the wiki? I haven’t touched that place in ages, so I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Unless it’s about the ages thing, then I got what you mean. I was going off on my own thoughts and my assumption was that Sebastian looks like he’s in his 20s because I cannot really see a teenager looking like THAT. Lol.

fair enough, this is a pa comic afterall and not a court drama comic, although there's always beef in a courtroom and verdicts than sometimes lead to death....
The legal system is way too complicated and more loopholes than needed. Sorry but Pete should have been banned or just killed. Honestly it's b.s. the
Guys like him never change and baby sitting is more trouble than it's worth.
Humanity is on the brink of extinction and they want to go to court.
every legal system has it's flaws, it evolves with society, and there needs to be some wiggle room to ensure every situation is judged uniquely. loopholes can be good or bad depending on whether or not it serves justice.
true, people like that don't change, and babysitting him would be trouble, but it might've been worth it if they could've used him to train more doctors to replace him.
court may seem arbitrary in those times, but if court could prevent war and unnecessary deaths, then it too would be pulling humanity back from the brink of extinction.

Yeah I was just talking about the age thing. What you said you felt the ages were for those characters is basically exactly what the wiki said they were so I thought you might have been getting the idea for those ages from what the wiki said.
I cannot possibly see Sebastian being a teenager. If he's supposed to be, Adlard is drawing him poorly, because he clearly looks mid 20's to me. His spoiled rich kid vibe is not from age, but from position in society without responsibility, along with the fact that the last time the world was together, he was a late teen. He probably never had the chance to grow out of it.
I'd also say that the fact that Commonwealth assigns jobs without any free will at all isn't really capitalist at all. More fascist than anything I reckon, at least theoretically. Obviously not as authoritarian at other communities we've seen, but almost the same thing on a lower, more familiar scale. Interesting direction the comic is taking here with conflict regardless. I really hope we don't end up in another straight community v community war though. I'm down with those. I'm interested to see this conflict go in a new direction.
the label of capitalism/communism is more of a description of a society's economic system, either can fascist or authoritarian or democratic as far as the citizens' political freedoms go.
