From Charlie Adlard’s Facebook/Twitter:

Your very first look st the cover for #TWD #184. Enjoy.

OCTOBER 3

Eugene Tinkers... but to what end?

Cover REALLY looks interesting and has me wondering the use of the train.  The two thoughts that come to my mind is that they’re either going to explore farther into America, or use it to be an easier mode of transport between the Commonwealth and the communities. What are y’all thoughts?

I like both ideas.  I think the train could be a safer mode of travel if they secure doors and windows. I’m sure Eugene will improve the cow catcher to be more efficient with the dead.  This could be a really good thing.

Edit:  Beast I owe you positive points.

That train is either diesel fuel or electric and neither one would be usable this far into the apocalypse.............also would not a train running on tracks cause a shit ton of noise that would attract zombies?

PT, you ruined my fantasy.  Now I feel silly.  I was thinking about going thru herds not attracting them.  ;)

I personally just hope they are looking through it for supplies. Using a train to travel back and forth from Ohio to Alexandria five years into the apocalypse when no modes of mechanical transportation seemed to be used anymore sounds like something that would have been done in one of Jay Bonansinga's books.

Depending on resources. How smart people are and creative. They could do something with it.

I mean stripping it down and rebuilding into something useful can't be ruled out. It'll just be a process and a lot of shit has to be done. That's also not counting they have to find out where those tracks are heading and the switches for them.

Diesel electric -a diesel engine drives a generator which makes electricity. This electrical energy powers large electric motors at the wheels called 'traction motors'. So basically full batteries and fuel. The original diesel ran on peanut oil. I imagine there would be all kinds of oil left over. Engine or food service, probably warehouses full of it. A diesel locomotive would run no problem on oil. Just has to flow. The bigger issue would be track condition 5 years out. It would be a huge undertaking but totally worth it. Even steam engines, there are musuems that have them, hell where I am. There are several still in use. Couple gun turrets front and back and you're set. Remember you would be the fastest land vehicle just like the old west.
