I don't agree with that vid.  It seems to suggest that season seven's ratings have declined because there's not enough Daryl.

I'd say the show is suffering because of too much Negan and the fact that they are pretty much following the comic blueprint with Negan's character.

With the governor, they altered the character and he was better because of it.

TV Negan is just like comic book Negan and it sucks.

Shield yourself from those not bound to you by steel, for they are the blind. Aid them when you can, but lose not sight of yourself.

Sticking to the comic, so often hailed as necessary with their selected examples of misfires, is nevertheless a terrible idea.

The comic has many ridiculous elements that need to be toned down (Governor, Negan) or turned off (Tiger).

While running away from all things comic is a terrible idea as well, finding the balance in the middle is essential.

I think the show worked because it had realistic human beings reacting to apocalyptic events. Putting cartoon impressions of people removes the 'real' people factor.

They needed to make Negan more human. Evil is fine, even cruel. But privately he has to be a human being, motivated by human concepts. We are getting that nicely with Dwight- which I haven't seen anyone complain about. Dwight's awful, but we at least understand why even as we hate it. Negan's bad because 'evil' which is far too simplistic for much of the audience of this show.

There's room for good vs. evil in entertainment, that's what Star Wars is and I dig Star Wars. But that hasn't been Walking Dead.

I am still new here so I don´t know for sure if it is allowed to discuss freely of spoiling things, if the main message says already "spoiler"? So just in case I hide my thoughts that may spoil that video or otherwise.

I agree that the more human the characters are, the better the show is working. Comic is different thing than a tv drama. If the whole series would be more like comic then maybe, but I think too that the makers should really consider what works and what doesn´t work in tv version.

Spoiler

I can´t wait to see the new episodes, but I sort of wish they won´t ruin the series for me. ;) The first part of season 7 was so sad I need something happy to balance it!

Mods must still be on holiday break if this thread hasn't moved to the spoiler forum yet.

With anyone new to the board, prolly a good idea to goto main page and read
all the pinned forum rules. And to read up on using spoiler tags as well.

That's part of it, but it's incomplete. There's been a lack of Daryl before. What's different about this half-season is a lack of all the most popular characters: Rick, Michonne, Daryl, and Carol, and the lack of a unifying storyline, aside from the overarching, "Everyone's sick and tired of Negan" storyline.

There hasn't been this little narrative momentum since they were stuck on that damn farm. At least then we had our favorite characters to keep us company. Now we have a whole lot of no one's favorite character.

Well, surely I do, and be careful with the spoilers, but what I wondered was if the whole discussion would be considered spoiling if it reads in the original title? Must say though I didn´t realize the "spoiler forum" was actual separate area. My bad. If needed so, my previous message can be removed. :)
