Re-reading issue 100 to see all the differences between the show and the comic on that scene, one thing I realized.

Neither victim came off like they didn't want to die.

I mean shit, Abe fuckin' flashes Sasha a 'peace' sign like 'see ya' and then after the first hit straight up tells Negan to suck his nuts. Which, ok, I guess fits his character, but then we have Glenn, who was blindsided of course, but even then, he says the absolutely awful 'Maggie, I'll find you' line. Just....defiance and cheesy optimism.

Contrast that with how it went down in the comics where Glenn's last  words before the bat fell the first time were freakin'  'Please. Please don't' which to me is arguably more heartbreaking than the 'M-m-MAGGIE' line, a line which, again, shows someone REALLY not fuckin' wantin' to die.

I dunno, just something I noticed

I didn't view Glenn's last words as defiance. Just wanting to say one last thing to his wife. He didn't see the first blow coming, and after that he knew that he was dead.

What bother me is that the phrasing is too elaborate for someone who just have his brain smashed. Imo, only "maggie" already seemed to me as a prodigious feat. Adding a whole sentence seems going up to eleven.

Brain injury, shock and andreneline can produce some strange things. The doctor talking after being impaled in the brain isn't without precedent. Plus in breaking bad, the guy who got blown up calmly walks out the room and straightens his tie before dying. So Glenn still being there enough to say a sentence but not able to get it out cleanly is believable.

The part that was weird was the "I'll find you." To me, that seems like he was trying to say something else.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord these bites aren't deep.
Should I die before I wake, I pray thee Lord, my skull they break.

I still say that arrow through the skull wouldve encountered enough resistance to

send Doc Denise flying foward and onto her face.

But then we have the walkers....

The "I'll find you, did seem odd, and since its a radical departure from the comic,

it almost makes me wonder if Yeun didnt ad-lib that part.

One theory that Yeun mentioned in an interview was that after being hit in the head, Glenn is going back to a time when he was looking for Maggie.  (Glenn vowed to find Maggie when they separated in season four.)  That makes sense to me.  The shock of being bashed in the head brought those memories back to the surface.

Yeah I think it's just his first reaction, after all the times they've been separated, that's just his instinct. He's always been one of the more hopeful characters and he's always been determined to get back to her.
