That's a great idea and could easily see that being the route Kirkman takes. It's better than my idea of thinking maybe he was a celebrity/known face in the pre-Z world and doesn't want to be reminded of who he was. Being such a large character Beta could've been a pro athlete. Negan even says he moves crazy fast for a guy that large.
