Wait a minute. This whole time was are talking about being covered in guts, but all Michonne has to do it use two dead walkers on a rope and she's safe? This has bothered me for a while now. Sure they tried to give an explanation on it but that's so they can cover a plot hole. Just because those two aren't interested doesn't mean the others can't smell her.

The other walkers couldn't smell Michonne because her "living" scent was overpowered by the 2 chained up walkers "dead" scent. That's always how I percieved it anyway.

But what about her living scent specifically to those two escorts.  It has been shown that even when missing limbs the walkers will try and get you.

I don't think it would ever actually work that way but they had to do it because the comic did it.

Think about it, if just being near zombies covered your scent then you could walk right through a 1000 of them and nothing would happen to you since their collective stink would protect you.

This was discussed a lot back when Michonne first showed up.  The theory was that because the walkers were not able to bite or grab, eventually they gave up viewing Michonne as a meal and would stand quietly.  It doesn't make much sense to me since walkers can't reason, but that was the theory.  Other walkers didn't attack her because a)her smell and b)the two walkers closest to her showed no interest in her so the rest of the dead follow their lead.  Walkers become interested in what other walkers are interested in.  She could also hide between them or behind them if she needed to.  If she had acted erratically or noisily the other walkers would have taken another look.  Again, it doesn't make a ton of sense, but it was in the comics and iconic so they went with it.

The walker guts was something that worked once in desperation, and failed as it got washed off in a light rain. Is that a theory you really want to test again yourself trying to go though an even more massive herd of walkers?

I'd say probably not. Rick is only doing this again because the situation is dire and one of immediate peril.

It is more than a theory at this point. It worked for Rick and Glenn. It worked for Michonne. It apparently worked for Glenn at the dumpster... :wallmad:

Also, I think it has only rained twice since Rick came out of the coma so the odds are pretty good that it would not happen while trying this.
