You would if you didn't want your brother to know you caught on. Ever seen cable guy? Remember when he was at the door and made footsteps like he was walking away but really didn't? Like that

I guess we'll find out soon enough - I just don't buy it.

You like sardines? How many 12 yo do you know would grab them first before eating the rest of the food in a pantry? A sucker or candy sure, but sardines?

Yeah. There were other foods.
I think bringing the Cherokee rose, a sign of hope, back to Carol was Daryl's way of letting her know he found something. Because he obviously found something, but didn't mention it. I think evidence that Sophia survived the woods thing and was at least for some time sleeping in an old abandoned farm house is worth running back and telling everyone in camp about.

Yeah we'll see. I guess it is my attempt to want to see Merle back.

I believe Merle will be back next episode, but it will be largely unconnected to Sophia. I think these are two different paths for Daryl that the writers will use to balance him out and the, ultimately, force him to make a choice.

Did anyone else find it a little peculiar and funny the sardine can was in the trash bin? I mean, its an abandoned house and theres a  zombie apocalypse going on? who cares about tidyness or littering? I started thinking about it and I know its probably a worthless detail, but maybe not.  If its Merle in the house, I think he would have left it wherever he finish them (or f he didn't want to be tracked, dispose of it elsewhere). I also think Merle would have had the guts(one handed, or not) enough to venture upstairs and he would have probably slept in a bedroom. I think Sophia stayed a night in the house, not only is she small enough to fit in the pantry, I think she would have thrown away the can. Maybe out of respect that it was once someone's home, or more likely out of habit.

I'd say you're probably right on that one. Just going by their characters, Merle is definitely the type to not worry so much about garbage cans in an apocalypse situation.

However, if it was Merle, and if speculation is right that Daryl knew it was Merle by the can of sardines, maybe him going outside without a tour of the upstairs being shown is a hint that Daryl doesn't want to find Merle. He's starting to care about these people, and probably knows very well that Merle would come back rreeaalllyyy pissed off and could put everyone in danger. That's probably looking too far into it, but that's the impression I got when I saw it.
"First night in camp Daryl tell us the whole thing reminds him of the time he went squirrel hunting and he saw a chupacabra."

Yep, prefer the sardines in oil, but the ones in hot sauce I like better during the colder weather.

I don't think it was Merle or Sophia who ate the sardines... I think it was someone else...

It also could have just been a house Daryl stumbled upon while looking for Sophia. And Daryl being vigilant, noticed the empty can in the trash. In the summer an empty open can of sardines will stink bad in less than 24 hours, and flies will appear within the first 6 hours, sooner if the doors and windows are open.

To stay on my better half's good side, I wash out the empty can, and toss it in the recycling bin... ;)
