In a scene from Season 5 episode 1,

Spoiler

Anyone who is a fan of both the comic and the show, and has read issue #100 of the comics knows

Spoiler
this scene could be a troll to make us question whether the Termites are supposed to mirror the Hunters or the Saviors or it could simply be a nod to issue #100.

My question is whether or not this scene was just a nod or was it foreshadowing a major death

Spoiler
?

That was what I was thinking. Some nice foreshadowing.

After I had watched the episode I was 100% it was Negan haha. Though I later found out that it wasn't (didn't realize it was the same crazy guy that Rick,Glenn rescued)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

That guy literally looked exactly like Negan in the flashback. Like he basically was Negan, it's just he wasn't Negan.

It can't be a coincidence that he happened to look identical to Negan. It's definitely a little Easter egg teaser from Scott Gimple.

+1 on this. I think it's just a case of the Trollitis that Kirkman has rubbing off on Gimple

The first step is the one you believe in, the second one might be profound.

His similar look to Negan made me think that Negan's crew was who initially captured the Termites. Then that would mean it was from Negan that the Termites learned techniques such as using baseball bats on those captured. If this were the case, we would only see Negan and any Saviors who did not manage to escape the Termites' uprising in flashback sequences.

But I believe Word of Gimple is that it is not Negan.

I liked the opening scene but I hope it doesn't end up taking away from any possible future scene with a baseball bat. Really, the opening scene makes it appear that we won't see another like it in the future. They'll find another way for Negan to make a grand show of force.

That guy with the bat behind Glenn was definitely a nod to issue 100 of the comics. I think that scene was put there specifically to scare comic readers. With that being said, while I do think that was a nod, I think Negan's entrance into the show will be different than how he made his mark in issue 100. At the least, I believe Glenn won't be the one to get the Lucille treatment, because it'd be redundant for him to be threatened with a bat again after his two close calls in 5x01.

I don't think the rapist in the train car was meant to be a nod to Negan. I think that by coincidence, he had his hair slicked back into a ponytail, and in the low lighting it kind of looked like Negan's slicked-back hair. However, I don't think this was done on purpose. I think it was just a directorial goof by Greg Nicotero. I think we were supposed to connect that it was the crazy tattoo face guy, since his face tattoos were so prominent. The problem was, the lighting was too dark and most people couldn't clearly see the tattoos.

It would be way to early to introduce Negan at the end of S5 or beginning of S6; there is a decent amount of story to cover before he shows up.  The gang still has more evolving to do in the show before they would be ready for the Saviors.  No Way Out arc could be beginning of S6, then introduce Hilltop mid season and finally Negan make his legendary debut in the S6 finale.
