I can understand that, but I just can't warm to her at all. There's just something that I dislike about her. When she and Daryl were at the morgue and she said the dead bodies were beautiful, honestly it just made her look stupid. The writers haven't given her a reason to make me give a toss about her, so when they tried the results were extremely poor.

I'm sorry, but I have never known anybody to be so rude as to basically accuse somebody of being a criminal during a "harmless" drinking game. Whilst I can understand why she thought that, no way should a reasonable person utter those words to the man's face.

She has hope that Maggie and the others are out there, but instead of actually doing something about it she sits with Daryl. Maybe she is extremely weak and can't handle a zombie or two, but her love and hope should be her drive to find them. Keep in mind this is the same girl that never cried when her boyfriend died, but started crying because Daryl revealed his past. She's a hypocrite.

We all have our favourites, and the people we least like. Beth is the one I extremely dislike. If the writers had actually showed us this throughout the three seasons I wouldn't have a problem with her. She is a stereotype in walking form, as well as a Mary Sue. They really could have handled it bette but they didn't. Nothing's going to change my mind about her.

A glorified redshirt fits her description. Plus they're characters who have faults that are actually better than her, because they're actually multilayered in personality and are more than the "first impressions" you see of them. Beth's first impression fits your description, and the writers continue to write her that way so if they aren't going to bother neither am I.

For me one of the biggest issues is her horrid development, if you can call it that.  She was an interesting sub character with a few good scenes who was basically filler for 2 1/2 years, then she was shoved down our collective throats in a godawful attempt to make us care when she was taken.  The sledgehammer approach to character development that we saw in Still, was so atrocious, it ruined so much for me, for both characters and it made me hate her and she was not redeemed in Alone, though it was somewhat better written.  I would have cared more about her being taken before Still, now I just wish she was dead and the only reason for me to want to see her again is because of who I think has her.

@thewalkingshooter, Oh... you mean she's a dumb emotional kid that acts rashly, without thinking her actions through and is trying to be tough in a harsh world and coming up short who might be confusing a craving for emotional stability with lust and love with the only member of her 'family' she has left??

I agree most of her behavior was consistent with being a stupid kid, I just think they were too heavy handed in Still especially and drove me to despise her, which I think is unfortunate.

Preach to the heavens.

Looking back her character is inconsistent.

Firstly, she was suicidal at the farm due to her family members. She also thought it was stupid for Lori to get pregnant due to the world she lived in. After overcoming these issues, you don't see much of her and then the time jump hits. Her diary excerpts reveal that she was cautious and not willing to become hopeful when they find the prison. Yet she's willing for her daddy to stay alive whilst Maggie looks at cold hard facts. For somebody not hopeful that's a bit too hopeful. Sure it's her dad but it doesn't fit her personality.

Throughout season3 she is the childminder of Judith and expresses to Carol that she always wanted a child. This implies that she still wants a child. Now maybe she has become hopeful due to Hershel surviving his amputation, yet it's hypercritical when you realise she expressed Lori was stupid for being pregnant. Yet in season4, she is once again weary and guarded of her feelings. She doesn't say goodbye to Zach and doesn't shed a tear when he dies. Because she doesn't cry anymore. The time jump is an issue again, but this season it gets worse because their is no justification for her personality shifts.

She doesn't cry anymore, as stated in episode1. She cries in episode3 when Hershel goes into quarantine. She cries when Hershel dies (I give her slack for this though). She cries in Inmates after coming across remains. She cries in Still. Yet she's all happy and sunshine when she isn't crying. She tries to look into Daryl's mindset, when she should be focusing on more important things.

She also states that she won't be around when Daryl becomes one of the last few still standing. This once again shows how depressive she really is, and isn't somebody who is looking forward to the future. Yet in the next episode she is all but ready to move and make house with Daryl despite the obvious flaws the house has as well as somebody who possibly still lives there.

Honestly, the character is just one inconsistency after another. She's depressed and not hopeful one minute, the next she is ready for the future and is the "purest" thing about the zombie apocalypse. It's just really pathetic the way the writers went about trying to justify her existence on the show. I have a feeling she was meant to be killed by the end of season2 or beginning of season3, but I have no idea how she's lasted this long and it infuriates me.

I would be happy if we never saw Beth again. If they bring her back, give her a death. There is enough canon fodder already, and I have a feeling Gimple is trying too hard by being the Anti-Mazzara by keeping as many characters alive, but he doesn't give enough focus on any of them and as a result some characters are more flatter than others. Beth is the one who is extremely flat as a character, because she's been around three seasons and hasn't done anything of importance. Even Judith has more of a purpose to the show than Beth.
