Anyone ever heard of this? I only stumbled upon it the other day on Twitch, learned about Twitch from the xbox one. Twitch is a live or recorded video game streaming site, JustinTV for gamers.

Awesome Games Done Quick is a week long charity event to raise money for cancer research. The premise is the players, or runners, do speed runs of the most popular classic video games. When I first caught it, a dude was playing Doom, doing a speed run beating the entire game on hard mode in less then 30 minutes. It's kinda crazy watching some of these guys game. I've beat a Link to the Past many times but watched these two guys last night race to beat it and saw a ton of stuff I didn't even know was possible in the game.

So for a week, 24 hours a day, about 100 runners are going to be playing about 100 games receiving special requests, like blind folded or no glitches, for donations.

The goal of the event is to raise $500,000. Sounds like a lot. Right now there have been almost 12,000 donations made. The average donation, get this, $31. Over $368,000 in less then 4 days for guys playing games like A Link to the Past, Ninja Gaiden, Chrono Trigger, Doom, Quake, Jak and Dexter, Tomb Raider II, Mario 64, Windwaker, Metroid Prime and many more.

Just thought it was pretty interesting. I never thought that gaming like this, speed runs of old games, would generate so much interest and raise so much money for cancer research. Being a 26-year+ gamer with cancer present in my family and loved ones, I found it to be exceptionally entertaining, positive and motivating.

Here is the schedule for the rest of the week if someone is interested in seeing an old game they liked as a kid get ran through for cancer money: http://gamesdonequic.../tracker/runs/9

Here is a link to the stream: http://www.twitch.tv...demosarchivesda

Check it out and get out your wallets, ya cheap bastards, and give ‘em some money. It's a six-pack of beer.

I'd never heard of it, but that's an awesome way to raise funds. Thanks for the heads up, GDPofZA.
