Not sure if anyone has broached this topic before, but has Robert Kirkman ever been asked if he would do a different walking dead series with different protagonists on say the west coast or in Europe? It could be interesting seeing different survivors with different ideas of survival and how he would make those characters develop. I dont think the current walking dead is stale, but it would be cool to see different directions of say a Latino family surviving the Zombie Apocalypse trying to escape Los Angeles and heading into the desert.

From my side i think its a bit too much to ask... The more of the walking dead the better dont get me wrong, but i think they are so busy with this story, and developing these characters, i dont think this would be possible...

It would be incredibly interesting to see the walking dead start right over again, in a different location... who knows? maybe kirkman will kill off Rick and Carl and start the story over in "The walking dead Europe Edition" but i highly doubt it...

The Telltale video game is technically in the same universe as the comics... though still takes place in Georgia. It would be really interesting to see different parts of the world, but I know I've read in interviews before that Kirkman has no plans to give different points of view in other parts of the world. But who knows, after the All Out War arc we may see the world begin to expand even more for whoever survives.

Hasn't Kirkman stated Telltale is no longer canon to the comics?? Or just that Lilly from the games is not the Lilly from the show.

Regardless I would definitely be interested in more Walking Dead, but Kirkman should not take on that responsibility at this moment. We don't want him becoming the next George RR Martin where he gets so much on his plate where he can't focus on what's most important.

You know, I think a spin off would be great. It would be better than any other crappy spin offs out there. I'm sure Kirkman doesn't have time so it would have to be under a different writer. Of course it would hardly compare to the original but I think it would be fun. I have some ideas,
Jesus: Ninja Bad ass
Alexandria Unchained
Spencer Undead
Shiva VS Battlecat
Lucile the vampire slayer

Telltale wants the game to be canon so they made Lily to show her backstory. However, Road to Woodbury came out and it showed her backstory was very different so they agreed to make it so the Lily from the game is not the Lily from the comic so the game could remain canon. So yes, the game is still canon but there are two different Lily's.

Anyway, I don't really like this idea to be honest. Kirkman already confirmed we wouldn't find out what's happening in other countries (but I wouldn't put it past him to have the group travel to Canada or Mexico) and I don't really want to have to see another group go through the motions of people dying, finding out what causes the virus, etc.

Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

Maybe the game season 2 can explore an area besides the Southeast and eastern part of the US.

Lets see what's happening on the westcoast or in the northern area of the country!

I am satisfied enough with the Telltale game series as far as seeing other locations and characters in the same world. Another comic series would be oversaturation in my opinion, though I may be open to the idea after the current story ends. But would they be able to top the original? It is hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice. The game works because it is a completely different medium.

We will probably venture in a different direction in season 2 of the game and see other interesting locations unseen in the comics. Unless Telltale wants to keep things around ASZ to keep it closer to the comic, but it doesn't seem logical to have Clementine or whoever to go from Georgia in the exact same direction as Rick, plus they probably don't want to risk another Lilly situation.

I would like to see a small series of one-shots covering various parts of the US; like one issue per major city area, or something. I'm most curious about what's going on in the Chicago area in TWD universe.

i agree, the games just the game, the comic holds the most weight with me, I think Robert Kirkman could pull it off! I think even a mini series could be really good with a good ending where they meet up or join Negan crew and become saviors, that would have an amazing surprise or ending.

I have wanted to do a spin off comic/ fan fiction based in California for a while. I get annoyed that the entire WD universe takes place in the south east portion of the US.
The idea of a zombie apocalypse in the Bay area is bat shit insane. Southern California would be fucking ridiculous as well. Most of California is not densely populated. But the Bay area, and certain portions of Southern California have so many people crammed into so little surface area that herds in the hundreds of thousands would be a certainty.
I would love to see a West coast Walking Dead.

I was thinking about a group out of Phoeniz Arizona would be cool, they want to make there way to the sea to escape as they cross the desert into Death Valley and then realize Los Angelas and San Diego is to overwealming to comprhend! I think I would like to see a main protaganist character being a Latin American Female searching for her cousins in Phoenix only to find out they are all walkers. Could be a really different story too! People do very different things in order to survive!

When did anyone say that? Friendship park has the highest population density of any unincorporated area in the US. San Francisco is 20th in population density in the US, with just over 800,000 people crammed into a city 5x8 miles. All you can do if you live in this area is run.
No area would be any less interesting than any other. Many people would like to see a Walking Dead story in their area.

Going through Death Valley just to get into the 7th level of hell that would be Southern California would be insane.
I agree, each area would posess its own challenges. I would love to see more than just what is going on in the South. But with Kirkman being from Kentucky I can see why he started his story in his own area.

I think this idea could work as a spin-off. Some of my favorite Walking Dead moments were when the group was on the road, finding out what had become of the world. Discovering Atlanta, Washington D.C. and the return to Kentucky were all huge moments in the comic. I'd love to see what has become of the West Coast, so if groups in The Walking Dead never venture that way, I wouldn't mind seeing that happen in a spin-off.

In somewhat related news, the TV show is apparently getting a spin-off. I don't see why the book can't, though I suspect Kirkman and co. will have to outsource if they want it to happen.

I guess kirkman is doing other projects....besides normally the creator would have to have major input. Or else the stories don't match up and everyone is confused.
