First off, I'd like to introduce myself. Been lurking for quite a while but this topic has been bugging me lately. If it has been discussed, I apologize but here's my viewpoint:

When Eugene and Abe went on their run to find the "bullet mill" or whatever they had been searching for, he told Abe that he would have to cast the bullets on site because the equipment would be too large to move to Alexandria. Now, the actual casting of the bullet is the most difficult part, yet one thing the Euge has seemingly overlooked; Pennies.

The amount of copper pennies left behind after the ZA would be easily procured, and copper melts at a relatively low temperature. They could easily construct a kiln/forge inside the walls of Alexandria and through some trial and error be able to make molds for their most common ammo types. Otherwise they would have to find some source of lead to cast, but I think that may be more difficult to find.

Casings could be had through looting, or by collecting spent casings that have been piling up for the last few years. I imagine that the early looters overlooked supplies of gunpowder, primers, and casings for that matter. As far as putting the bullet together goes, all they need is a press which probably wouldn't be too hard to come by. The whole process is really quite simple once you have all the components, my father and I have always reloaded our own rounds (shotgun, rifle, and handgun) right in our own house.

So with all that said, I think that Eugene is not as smart as he trys to come off. Manufacturing ammo is not as difficult as they are making it out to be, even in a post ZA world. Maybe it's just Kirkman stretching out the whole situation though.

Welcome browniehound !
I agree with everything you said but i hate to be the one to tell you its been discussed before. Your points are very valid the bullet making process is not that difficult in real life and would not take as much as Euge is making it out to be. You are probably correct in him putting on a show to impress Rosita with "how smart he is" its not like he hasn't lied before to make himself out to be something he is not.

Indeed, I figured this had been brought up before, but it has been a while since it's actually been mentioned in the comic. The scene with Eugene in 106 or 7 at the mill got me thinking about it again. I have a bad feeling about the situation overall though. This probably won't end well for the Euge.
