had a great idea for thread on opening sceens. anyone have a favorite end sceen to an episode. I liked the one where Shane and Rick had their huge fight and at the end there is Shane in the car looking at the lone walker. Although I wasnt a Shane fan I felt sad for him, he "was part of a group" but was also very alone I felt, being rejected by his best friend, the woman he loved and others Dale etc. With the world going to hell arround him he was alone (in his mind anyway)

Yeah, that was a great one. I love the song playing too.

I love the end of Nebraska, when Rick blasts Dave and Tony in the bar. The song playing at the end of that episode is pretty awesome too.

The ending scene of Season 2 episode 1 (I believe), when Carl gets shot. I loved how Rick freaked out and ran over to Carl and Shane ran in front with his shotgun drawn, ready to defend them. Was a pretty epic ending.

Yeah, that was a great one. I've always loved Shane's automatic reaction to protect them too. Awesome. I miss him...

Yea those are good. But my fav has the be pilot episode ending. To see ricks journey to atlanta and almost shoot himself before the walkers grabbed him and find a way in the tank then hear a kids (glenn) voice. I thought that was darabont at his best.

Rick's breakdown in Killer Within

Rick and Carl walking across the farm and the camera pans out to the massive herd of walkers with that chaotic music in Better Angels

My favorite endings are the ones that leave me emotional.

Thus Season 2 Episode 7 Pretty Much Dead Already. I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned this one already, but Sophia coming out of the barn has to be one of the most monumental moments of this series. Everyone's hope is completely crushed and you can see it all over their faces.

My other favorite is Season 3 Episode 4, The Killer Within. Rick's breakdown mixed with Maggie's sobs while holding the baby gets me every time.

Sophia coming out of the barn at the end of "Pretty Much Dead Already" is heartbreaking no matter how many times I watch it

Edit: Farswell beat me to it, apparently. I was surprised no one mentioned that one, too!

There is so many great ones!

When Rick kills Shane.....Carl kills Shane and then we see Walkers coming to attack the farm.
Rick democracy speech and then seeing the prison.
Herschel getting his leg chopped of by Rick and then Prisoners!

This show has better endings to an episode than any other.

Season 2: Save the Last One when we find out what happened to Otis.

-Tie-

Season 2: Pretty Much Dead Already - Sophia coming out of the barn.

Season 3: Killer Within - everyone's reaction in the coutyard was incredibly well done.

Will agree with you that 18 Miles Out is one of the most well done and beautiful endings! Loved Shane looking out of the car at the lone walker in the field. Beautiful scenery and imagery.

When the Dead Come Knocking (S3E7) has one of the best closing scenes, if only for the heartbeat music playing at the end synchonizing everyone--Andrea upset after having to put down Mr. Coleman, Rick's group come to save Glenn & Maggie, and the Woodbury posse who has just realized that Rick's group "has done something you said couldn't be done."

I agree -- love the shot of Rick, Daryl & co lying in wait outside of Woodbury, and then the camera pans to Andrea right there, just on the other side of the fence.

How about S03E05 - "Say The Word" - Rick hearing the phone ring? For fans of the comic, like me, that was awesomely unexpected.

I'm going to choose two winners because i can't choose one.

S2E7 - Pretty Much Dead Already - Sophia. Nuff said.
S3E4 - Ricks breakdown.

Runners up

S2E1 - What Lies Ahead - Carl getting shot, mostly because of out of nowhere shock.
S337 - That soundtrack, that tension, that buildup.

The Walking Dead's episode endings is something the shows strong points for sure. S305 - Say the word was the weakest episodes this season compared to the rest, but the cliffhanger totally saved it.

My favorite would have to be 3x07 as well.

Others would be 2x07, 1x01, 2x08, 3x04, and 3x05.

The ending of the season 2 finale, and the ending of Killer WIthin are easily my favorite episode endings. The shot of the prison with that music playing was beyond epic, and seeing Rick completely break down like that was beyond heart breaking.

Season 2 episodes 12 and 13 - both end with brilliant establishing shots showing us what's coming next in the form of a massive herd and the prison, respectively.

Season 3 episode 8 - when the camera slowly circles The Governor after he gets his crowd riled up. I love this shot, the intensity of it really cements what kind of man The Governor is; he uses chaos to his advantage, planting seeds amongst people so he can stand back and watch them grow.
