I've been meaning to write a backstory on one of the characters from my world famous TWD fanfiction, 'A Whole New World', and now you, my loyal fans and readers, can contribute to it.

"But how?" You ask, not realizing that I can't hear you through my computer screen. Well, it's very simple. Name a character from 'A Whole New World', doesn't matter who, and try to convince me why this character deserves a prequel story dedicated to him/her.

"If this is a contest, then what about the reward?" You ask while rubbing your greedy hands together. At least, I assume you do since I still can't hear nor see you through the screen. Unfortunately for you and fortunate for me, there's no money involved. But if I choose a character based on your reasoning then you will get to read the story before everyone else does and you get limited input on it. Emphasis on the limited, this is still my story, mkay?

But, I do want a well thought out post, not just "<insert character name>, because I like him/her". For this very same reason I did not include a poll because I want you to post a reason. Really try to show me why this particular character is worthy of a story dedicated to them. Do not be afraid to mention multiple characters, I will only pick the one I like best.

So, to recap:
What: A backstory, a prequel if you must, to one of 'A Whole New World''s characters.
How: Convince me why your character of choice deserves
Reward: You get the story before everyone else and limited input.

So get to it and try not to turn this into the Hunger Games. I know you are a competitive bunch.

Me first? Well don't mind if I do......

I think the best back story to do would be Odis. It would be interesting to see how someone like him came into power. This would also give you a chance to develop Venessa, Manny, Estaban and many others as well. I think it would be something that could be done for a good amount of time as well. You already have him as someone that goes out for supplies and a conflict that was unseen in your original story.

So to wrap up with a nice bow....... further develop an interesting character that's out of time, develop many current characters, and go into further depth on events that were mentioned but not detailed.

You did this before, then? Sorry if it seems like I stole your idea but I haven't really been following Diary of a Runner, so I had no idea.

Brain Baker, you my friend, are going to be a tough one to beat.

But I personally would love to hear Erica's backstory. Granted it wont include any other characters but She is such a complex intriguing and strong character that she could carry a prequel on her own. imo her backstory would be insane. We already know shes lost everyone close to her but what horrors must she have gone through before meeting the original group at the super market what was the last straw that made her flip the switch that turned her into a manipulative shoot you in the knee & leave you for dead kind of broad hmm....curious minds want to know.

Dante, his back story would be interesting because...Its freakin' Dante!!!! Not only does he have a sketchy past but hes been rollin' with the crazies for quite some time.I havent read a story that focused on the villainous aspect we could learn more about the "boss" and how that group operated. We would get to learn more about Dante's inner struggle....selfish but still caring....a bad boy but a good guy at heart. Tell me that doesnt sound like a Hollywood blockbuster in the making.

Now now, what did I say about turning this into the Hunger Games? I still need people to read my story.

You both bring up good points. Let's just wait a couple more days to see if anyone else wants to participate.

I think you are trying to add another character in from the fans?

Oh well i'll put in my say

Who is he?

His name is kelvin, one of the last of his tribe. Kelvins family was attacked by rogue military on the way towards the safe zone. Kelvin was one of the most skilled at archery and helping,
The best in class and one of the last in his class. Unfortunately after being shot at, a gun shard has reflected into his eye, disabling his eye permanant, Even though there may be disabilitys,
Kelvin will always be the one who sides with those who choose to be calm, nice and charming. Little does everyone know that Kelvin holds the potential of the sniper eye. When put into a scoped weapon,
He can be one of the best shots you can imagine of. With his disability, he has no feeling in his sharded eye. ( You can personally decide which eye; Whatever suits best for any up-coming character in your mind.)
Little do we all know, takes anti-anxiety medication for panic attacks, during his panic attacks everything slow down making him shoot more clearly and more comfortable.

Suited with the pills he carrys by his bag and his maple bow, he sturdys along the road with fear of death, and fear of the hunters who have attacked his tribe repeat.
You will find very great use of him. As he forms a bond with the group, Dante will feel more open to talk about his past with someone who has a sickness just as him. Kelvin will become like a brother
To Dante, to a extent. They'll travel the roads with him as he gains more control of his sickness and learns how to control with a gun. He'll never be the first to end a life, but he'll be the first to protect
those he love. He continues to protect those he still love.

The Day ends with a brother to dante, and a friend to all.

Reasons why he deserves to be added

-Could be a pre-quel to exploring the past life of dante and or ashley, or even the father of ashley.
-Would be a great addition
-I havn't seen or imagined any asian people, so maybe when you find him. Let him wear some monk robes as a symbol he was once a monk who has transfered to something else.
-Would be intresting to see some more actions of people with sickness. I havn't read one fantasy fiction ever with anyone having some type of sickness ranging to anxiety attacks to anything.

Reward

Thanks =)

It's not exactly what I meant, xHan. But I do really like your take on it. I could always use Kelvin as an important character in Dante's background story, and the way you described him I could see conflict arise between him and Dante for joining up with the crazies, who are the complete opposite of calm, nice and charming.

This is gonna be a tough one, for sure.

Hopefully im not to late, but as most would probably say i think Dante would be most deserving of a side story, or prequel. Mysterious can easily be used to describe his character along with dynamic and versatile. I'm sure a creative mind such as yourself could think of countless ways to incorporate him in twd life from the outbreak to when he met up with cooper and co.

Im just jumping the bandwagon choosing Dante for the new side story, but personally i am currently reading The Rise of The Governor and you could almost just as easily do a side story of Cooper and his downfall to darkness from being a righteous soldier. either way ill be reading whatever you may concoct.

Alright, well please allow me to discuss further my thoughts on why Dante or Cooper would deserve the story.

Dante, first and foremost is very intriguing from the moment he saved mr. protag, to the quick elimination of those poor ambushers. The kind of character that people can look towards as the de facto leader in the case of critical decisions reguardless of authority. He is the potential make for a great action hero or a soulless villian, just so much to add to his background.

Cooper, like ive said could relate to the governor in alot of ways. The darkness that consumed the governor was displayed in Cooper as well, but the fact that he was a soldier makes for a very dynamic twist. Describing a person in such high rankings as cooper formerly was, and the training that he would have went through to attain such a reputation just to see him corrupted by the world around him and changed into a monster would definately, in my eyes, be a great read.

Hopefully my input has an impact.

We've got a winner, lady and gentlemen! Give it up for brain baker.

While you all had great suggestions, I think Odis's background story would be perfect to further develop characters still alive and dead. I'd love to do a story on Dante, but I think that the mystery surrounding his character is what makes him so interesting. Gives y'all something to speculate about. But who knows, I'm not ruling a background story on Dante out just yet.

Cooper's downfall would most likely be included in Dante's story, so that's why he's out. Kelvin too, he'd be included in Dante's story.

I honestly immediately dismissed Erica. Sorry, honey. I know you love to hate her and hate to love her, but a backstory on her would not benefit the overall story. She hadn't met any characters prior to finding the supermarket, she was all alone for three months after losing her family. Just like Dante, I'm not ruling a backstory on her out just yet, but I am for now.

Let's celebrate brain baker's victory.
