I like the show, in general, as it's feeding some metaphysical questions I currently have.

However, it is fatally flawed in many ways. Not least, the predictability of what happens next.

Exceptions are few, but include Carol's actions and development, and Carl's. And events related to the barn in S2.

Here are the tropes/ cliches that weaken the drama and action:

  • Team Rick joins a group, mistrusts it , and there's resolution (well covered in FilmTheory channel on youtube)
  • Bottle episodes are preceded and followed by big bang ones
  • Someone is captured: villain gloats, villain dies or deus ex machine (and villain dies anyway) [far too much gloating in S5 & S6)
  • So-called cliffhangers and fake-outs
  • Redshirt alert – via casting, ancillary groups glomming onto Team Rick
  • Shiitake we all seen before in TV and movies
  • Stuff we've seen in games, esp some of the camera shots
  • No one, esp Abe, instills Standard Operating Procedures. (I know that, and am a civilian)

Any thoughts?

The show has been running on a recipe of terrific characterizations fleshed out by excellent actors.

The villain theme has already reached boring for me. I dreaded Negan because of the governor, who was already a bit silly. I say that as a fan of his portrayal, btw.

I tune in for the drama, but many tune in for the ass-kickery.

TWD tries to please several different audiences, and that's really hard.

We've had many episodes loved and at the same time loathed by different audiences.

I think that's ultimately spelled doom for the show.

Some have had it with the drama and emotional challenges, while others are tired of villains.

I for one am dreading the

Spoiler
while others are on the edge of their seats for it.

So tough for TPTB.

So on that note I won't say fatally flawed as much as troubled with the happy problem of very different audiences to somehow please simultaneously.

I found a way into this thread and managed to post.

Thinking of the great times, hope you're all well.

Why another post?

Because it's weird that I can do this at all.
Only, apparently, in this thread.

Stealth mode.

Uh oh, skipped March.
I like Kang's Walking Dead a LOT!
So there's that.

Someday I'm hoping some other romantic will look back here and stumble on these idle musings.

No January?

Sacrilege!

Here's a February salutation.

The 1% chance that anyone else ever finds a way into this thread (the only one I slipped into) will make the few seconds I take pay off immeasurably.

:)

No March. I'm skipping months now it seems.
Diminishing returns I guess.

The payoff if anyone ever seen this, though....

May?

Why not.

Series is almost over.

Will no one check?

Even for posterity?

I guess they will not.

No June, No July, No August.

Also,

no one else has noticed, orif they have, they haven't commented.

Sad.

This was a fun place, and bizarrely the occasional breaking into this broken world is amusing enough to keep it going.

The pay off if anyone ever comments will be great, but if not this isn't really that much effort.
