Just thought it would be interesting to ask since we have amassed a good number now. It doesn't have to necessarily be the moment the sibling is dying, but also can be the surviving sibling's reaction afterwards. My personal vote is Amy/Andrea. Something about saying your final words after a life of neglect to your zombified sister is just heart wrenching to me.

I didn't pick up on Andrea having neglected Amy prior to her death. She was an older sister and older sisters tend to make their way in the world sooner than the younger ones. I don't think that is necessarily neglectful. But, I guess I missed something early on. What was the evidence of that? I think I would feel guilty about not spending more time with my siblings too if I was in Andrea's shoes even though we call and email all the time. But life takes us each down our own road. I think guilt would just come naturally as part of loss.

-------

I voted Amy/Andrea because it was the first sibling death and Andrea put her down. That really touched me. Amy's death also lead to some very believable character development on Andrea's part (until they hit season 3). I did appreciate the fact that Andrea came full circle to put herself down in the same way she killed Amy.

Here's my list in order of sad to least sad.

I would say Mika/Lizzie next. They were children. It is always sad when children die. Lizzie's death was particularly moving for me.

Merle/Daryl would be next in my book. Seeing Merle turned was devastating for Daryl. I liked the character of Merle and hated to see him exit the show.

Beth/Maggie. Only because I thought everyone carried their parts believably. Maggie's shock at seeing Beth's dead body was very moving.

Tyreese/Sasha (good death scene on the road). They didn't really spend a lot of time on scenes between Ty and Sasha at the grave. Her loss of Bob seemed to have more impact. But we will see what comes of it in future episodes. I just pray she doesn't go the way of Andrea, or Rick, or Ty and turn into a pacifist. If she does we can kiss her goodbye, and I really like the character.

Noah and his twin. The idea of finding someone you love who was either eaten or or eaten and turned would be gut wrenching. Okay, pun intended. It was sad.

Don't forget Tara and her sister Lily. Perhaps the least moving but I wanted to include it.

In the department store, Andrea made a comment about always missing Amy's birthdays. I think that's where Shambo is going with that, but like Lioness said, I don't know that it was neglectful, just the way life is being a sibling at least 10 years older. And I voted for Andrea/Amy. Probably because Andrea was actually with her when she died, and it was our first real death of a main character. Maggie's reaction to Beth was heart breaking, as was Daryl's upon seeing Walker Merle. But something about Andrea holding her as she died, telling Amy repeatedly "I don't know what to do", staying with her all night until she turned, really I don't think it's even close.

Tyreese definitely got the best death treatment. Not the hallucinations, but the group trying to evacuate him was very intense, and then as they're driving you see the sunset through his eyes, and then black. It wasn't a heroic death, but from a cinematic POV he's had the best death so far.

I am glad that you went into detail here about why you thought Tyreese had the best death treatment. You mentioned that in another thread and I was tempted to ask you to explain why you thought that. Now I see. You are right, from a cinematic POV he had a great death.

Daryl and Merle hands down. Their brotherhood was tested throughout the whole time he was alive.

I didn't feel anything for anyone else especially not Amy. She was in like 2 episodes? no emotional attachment.

Beth didn't move me either bc Maggie didn't show she gave a crap about her until she found out she died. It seemed so forced. I felt worse for Daryl.

Sasha and tyreese was just meh. Maybe bc he was more concerned about Karen.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't get that Noah had a twin. He had two brothers who were twins. He told Tyreese in the car that he hoped that his mother and twin brothers were still alive.

I didn't pick up on Andrea having neglected Amy prior to her death. She was an older sister and older sisters tend to make their way in the world sooner than the younger ones. -------

I agree that it wasn't neglectful because Andrea was so much older than Amy. I didn't get closer to my older sister until we both were adults.

I think it was mentioned that one of the reasons they went on the road trip was to reconnect.

I have to agree that Amy's death scene had the most impact for me.

I voted Amy/Andrea. Amy died when people were still deeply affected by any death and Andreas grief was indulged to the point of endangering others. You don't get that kindness much anymore.

I guess neglect wasn't the accurate word to use. What I meant was that Andrea was so stricken by grief, she guilted herself into believing that being too "busy" in law school and missing Amy's birthdays made her a bad sister.

I wish I could've voted for two because these two are at the same level in my opinion:  amy/andrea & ty/sasha.  Most shocking for me would've been Mika/Lizzie and last would be Merle/Daryl.  I have to give it to Sonequa because she really had me feeling it for Sasha when she put the mud over Ty.

Amy and Andrea. They were the 1st, and as others have said it was back when death still meant something.

But Meryle and Darryl was pretty powerful too.

And I do believe that was also the episode which started the annoying trend of "sudden character development/sudden character death".

That's definitely what he meant, since that's what he had been talking about originally. Doesn't make it true, though.

I'm going to have to go with Mika and Lizzie - as much as the others were sad, the Mika/Lizzie scene had the shock effect, the added fear for Judith, as well as the realization that Lizzie is done - she's too far gone, and just not going to be able to survive in this world.

One thing that factored into my Amy/Andrea choice, I don't categorize Lizzie/Mika like I do the other sibling deaths.

Some events are so horrible that they transcend everything else in their phylum or whatever. Sort of like how Carl putting a bullet in Lori's head when she died or the Gov beheading Herschel. They're not just your typical braining or character death. Nothing else compares to them.

Merle and Daryl for me.  They had just reconnected after that long traumatic separation. Rather than accept the expected "Doer of Dirty Deeds" role that Rick had tried to assign him, Merle had just turned Michonne loose.   He was making a really heroic play to take out the Governor and save his new team.  The loss of potential for that character tore me up. And seeing Daryl flipping Dixon fall apart like that was gut wrenching.  Plus Merle was all kinds of fun to watch.

This is why Lizzie and Mika weren't even an option for me. I didn't even consider them. It's Andrea/Amy all the way for me and the only other one I think even comes close is Merle/Daryl.

It's the Dixon Dudes for me. A few reasons. They brought him back, he was an evil pawn of the Governator,

but reuniting with his bro started changing him. He'd obviously come to believe being a bad ass was all

he was destined to be. But with time, he came to replace his disdain for his "weak baby brother" with

honest to gosh respect for Daryl and his principles, and a belief he might actually eventually be accepted

as an equal within a group of people around whom you didn't have to sleep with one eye open--people

with decent values. Like his brother. So by the time he turned Michonne loose and decided to be a hero,

IMO he was truly a different person, and I felt sad at what I knew was coming.

The final reason of course was Daryl's reaction to his death and having turned. To me t'was the most moving

death and mourning scene, as well as acting on both their parts, to date--siblings or otherwise.

I suppose decency would dictate the sadder non-sib death should have been Laurie or Andrea.

But I couldn't shed a  tear over either of them.

Although.... I do admit that seeing Sophie shuffle outa that barn affected me pretty deeply too. (in a manly, it's

only a TV show kinda way of course.  ) So if I had to pick a non-sib saddest death that would probably be it.

Let's not forget Mitch and Pete. Minor characters though they were their story was actually sadder to me than Noah and his unnamed brother. The Governor kills Pete and rather than trying to avenge his brother Mitch just accepts it, works with his brother's murderer, and then dumps his body into a lake. And he didnt even have the courtesy to put him down iirc. The scene where he threw him in was pretty sad to me. Pete is still kicking at the bottom of the lake.

That said I voted for Andrea and Amy.

I didnt consider it either, because it wasn't sad--Pete was too blardy stupid to lead a group, and Mitch

was a scumbag--and the Gov'na was an expert at spotting fellow slimeballs that would follow him, whatever

he asked for.

My only regret about Mitch is we didn't get to see him suffer a little before he died. But they did make up for

that in two ways-- the surprised look of the Gov'na's  when that sword emerged from his chest was satisfying,

and two, the look on Mitch's face after he scampered from his precious tank and stood face to face with

Daryl's crossbow was priceless.

So no, no weepage at those two.
