I know DreaM has mentioned Locke & Key before - (Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez/IDW Publishing) does anyone else read it? I kept seeing it pop up on those 'best of 2013' lists, so I grabbed the first volume when I was at the CS last week. I absolutely love it! The art is beautiful, and I already love the main characters. I'm definitely going to pick up more of the series (I think it's complete), next time I'm out.

Here is the plot summary from wikipedia:

After the gruesome murder of their father, the Locke kids, Tyler, Kinsey and Bode move with their mother Nina to the ancestral family home, Keyhouse. They soon discover that the house is full of secrets when they start finding magical keys which hold impossible powers, such as turning people into ghosts or being able to erase someone's memories. They are not the only ones who know of the keys; a demonic creature known as Dodge is also after the keys, with the goal of opening the Black Door, which will allow the demons of hell to enter our world.

The last issue came out just before Christmas, which will be published in volume format and released late this month or early next. I can't speak highly enough of this series. It was another one that was almost done when I started collecting, so I just read the volumes available at the library, so it hasn't come up on my pull list ever. And I have been dying for the last few months to see how it all ends. I love the art style so much, and he is a very good storyteller (Stephen King's son, although he has a different name in order to succeed in his own right.) I love the way they weave the two generations together, with bits of the family history sprinkled in.

I'm glad you checked it out Gracie.

I wish I had found it sooner! At least I'll be able to totally binge on it until the end. I'm not sure I can hold off until Wed to go get the next volume.

I'm working on Vol 3, now. This is really great stuff - I highly recommend Locke & Key. The art and the writing work so well together. Also, for a paperback, the volumes are pretty gorgeous.

This may sound stupid or not but is Joe Hill Stephen King's son? Didn't they co write in the tall grass?

Yes, he's King's son. DreaM mentioned it a few posts up.

I'm so excited to pick up Vol 4 tomorrow. I'm loving this series!

Sorry Dream I somehow missed that you mentioned that. I enjoyed in the tall grass so I'll probably give this a try.

I am about an issue and a half into the final volume and it does not disappoint. Ellie's son Rufus plays in more than I would have expected, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. Very good reading. I am so tense with worry, and exctied to see how it all plays out, and sad that it will soon be over.

Maybe I should read a page a day to draw it out (impossible, it is so compelling) because I hate to say good bye to stories I love as much as this.

I just started reading Vol 4 today. I tried putting it off as long as I could. I'm going to miss the characters when I am done.

Funny timing, just finished this last weekend! Got a little choked up. One of the books has pictures from behind the scenes of the failed pilot. Pretty cool stuff.

I just finished. Wow. Just wow. It's gonna take some time to process.

I'll have to look for the failed plot scenes, bhunt, that wasn't in the volume I read and I am very intrigued.

Sorry I missed this earlier. I'm glad to hear you are covering it and look forward to the podcast. This is the perfect opportunity to relive it all again. Have either of you reached the end yet?

We both have finished it, but it will probably take a while before we have time to cover all the volumes on the podcast. We definitely will cover the entire series, but it will probably take several months.

Had a blast with this episode. Hope you enjoy it.

The most amazing crossover that never was, and a future for Locke and Key.
