I think the ''regret'' was because it made and still makes it harder for Kirkman to write. He has to always keep in mind to write scenes that are specific to Rick's handicap. Like '' Oh, Rick is gonna do an gesture with his hand, but oh wait, he cant. Because he doesnt have that hand. Whelps, i guess i have to rethink that moment. '' If he still had two hands, he wouldnt have to do that. I think he said that in some Letter Hacks, but i cannot remember which one.

So...yeah, comic-wise, it is because it is an hindrance at times.

In the show....well, if they could do it with an leg, i guess they can do it with an hand. Maybe. I dunno.

I know but it adds a lot to the story that we don't have a "perfect" hero.

Kirkman's problems come from writing something like, "Rick buttons his shirt" and then realizes that he can't. However, it's all the little things that came out of Rick losing his hand that makes it so great. After the prison assault, Rick couldn't even open a can of beans. He had to ask Carl to do it for him. It was a simple moment, but it showed them leaning on each other. If Carl had died in the assault (and Rick didn't lose his will to live), he would've starved to death.

Plus, Rick losing his hand made the comic feel that much more "real." Even the main character wasn't safe. It's such an iconic moment.

With Game of Thrones, whenever a "big" episode is coming up, the readers know and set up hidden cameras and want to capture their friends reactions. I was looking forward to that with The Walking Dead. I wanted to see the reactions of my friends and family when Rick loses his hand or Lori and Judith get blown to smithereens. It's a little sad

Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

Yeah, it does add to the story, but the fact is that Kirkman thinks that it wasn't the greatest of practical writing moves in the long run. So he probably wont do it again. Or maybe he will. We do not know.

And.....Jesus, damn it. Just fucking damn it.

I know it is an AWESOME show (although i didnt care much for it after Boromi...i mean....Eddard got sent off), and i actually agree with your points ALOT.

But must you bring up GOT all the time? You surely must have other ''argument'' cards up your sleeve's to use, no? (And by that, i do not mean Breaking Bad.)

Dont make me wave my old-man stick at you.

Well, Game of Thrones is very relevant a lot, considering it's one of the only shows on TV that's based off a book (and is not a piece of shit like Under the Dome).

There are too many relevant times to bring up Game of Thrones

People saying that following the source material will make Walking Dead predictable? Game of Thrones

People saying that we have to give Chandler Riggs a pass because most child actors aren't good? Game of Thrones

People saying that it's hard to give a large cast development? Game of Thrones

People giving excuses to Rick's awkward, boring-ass, terrible, nonsensical development? Breaking Bad

From Gimple: "There's going to be a lot of familiar stuff, brand-new stuff and remixed stuff. There are some things where you will totally know them and hopefully be expecting them, and then there will be stuff that's brand-new that you have no idea if it's coming but it will circle around to moments from the comic. It's very much like these eight [episodes]. Comic fans once again will absolutely see a lot of iconic moments."

So I guess they are moving closer to the comics and not just for ep 9

Staying true to the source material would be a good start. I never understood "remixes." Why not just write your own original story? Why ruin an amazing story that's already been written for you?

I originally hate watched this show. I originally wanted it to be EXACTLY like the comics. Sometime after Dale died, around Beside the Dying Fire, I accepted it was going to be do it's own thing, "remixing" comic events and I'm fine with that. No longer watching the show and screaming "WHY DIDN'T YOU DO WHAT THE COMICS DIIIIIIIIID", which is fun.
Sure, the show's not perfect and there are occasionally still times that I wish it stuck a little closer to the comics (I wish more people would have died in Too Far Gone), but there's nothing that's really ruined the show for me as a comic fan.

I think I might be repeating myself...whoops.

i understand that. It can be hard. At this point I take it at face value and try to enjoy what I can about it. Seems better at this point when compared to its previous seasons, and not to the comic or other shows on at the moment.

alass that seems to be the hard part of adapting any source material into a new medium, I agree that staying closer to the comic is a great place to start ( and fingers crossed their back on track) but I think at the same time you need to trust your actors enough to let them find their own path into the charecter they are portraying. I don't think we need a line for line, carbon copy of the comic . Besides the voice acting in my head wins hands down every time.

The best example of a more or less line for line and panel for panel adaption of a comic book would have to be Sin City.

Sin City showed that they can stay true to the comic and have it turn out great.

That movie was awesome and i did not enjoy it less because i had read every comic........it was more enjoyable to me because it was so spot on accurate to the comic.

Not so my friend............

I am just stating how i feel about the show and how poorly it has been handled in my opinion.

Compare it to other tv shows it seriously lacks in quality and planning.

There is no saving it in my eyes and to me personally its a shame how terrible it really is.

Do I still watch it yes............but that does not mean i agree with the way the great story from the comics has been destroyed for the millions of people that watch it and have never heard of The Walking Dead before it came out.

This version of the story is a poor reflection of the greatness we have been reading for years.

There was no reason to change anything with the story itself other then make it less graphic for tv.

If they wanted to make a huge change they should have just started from scratch from the very beginning instead of alienating some of the hardcore fans.
