I know its not comic related other than that I just found out about it letter hacks, but I'm pumped for The Fall of the Governor coming in October. I read Rise of the Governor and Road to Woodbury and they were both great. What avenues do you think they will go with this novel and do you think it will follow both sides of the prison-woodbury conflict or touch on other things entirely.

I heard somewhere that Rick and Michonne will be in this book. I'm pretty sure this one will tie the book to the comic. kirkman has hinted that we may get to see the fate of Lilly and the other Woodbury residents.

That would be good. Hopefully it gives us more explanation, battle prep and some good action. I really want to see what the aftermath was that the comic didn't get to touch on.

The last two novels were awful and I suspect this one will be too so I'm not spending any money on it. I might check it out at a library but even that might be stretching it.

Granted the writing is quite elementary and I found the excessive reusing of the same words and phrases to describe many of the events, especially the action sequences, to be an annoyance but that being said I still like the stories and characters. The Rise of the Governor did a good job at detailing how the Governor came to be the man he is. To me its mostly about filling in the stories about TWD that were not elaborated on enough in the comics.

I didn't know these books were bad. I never read them and I was planning on getting them from the library one day. Can somebody elaborate why they suck?

Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

Rise of the governor was pretty good, but the road to Woodbury was bleeehhh IMO. There's just a lot of unnecessary, repetitive adjectives in both novels, and the plot is really slow and uninteresting in road to Woodbury, but we are given background on characters and how Woodbury was foemed. Rise of the governor gives some excellent back story on the governor though. Back story= good, overall writing= meh.

The stories are good but the actual writing definitely leaves something to be desired. The plots and characters are good but the actual delivery of the material isn't quite up to par.

Isn't Fall of the Governor supposed to be the Prison Attack from Woodbury's Perspective?

Robert kind of hinted that in the fall of the governor we would find out at least in part, what happened to Woodbury and the part of the Woodbury army that got stranded in the prison. If that is true, I'm really excited about it. Otherwise, it would just tell the same the comic books said. I hope they are consistent...

the novel will be told in the gov,s point of view. I very excited for this novel. Kirkman has hinted we will see the fate of Lilly, the rest of the Woodbury soldiers and those who stayed back in Woodbury.

I don't know how you can say "The Rise Of The Governor" was bad, yes it wasn't an amazing-famous style of writing, but it wasn't bad either but I have no clue about road to Woodbury as I am reading that now and have yet to judge, at the moment it is a bit slow but what can you expect, its a "survival" horror.
I'm not sure about this though, mostly because its something we know about.
We know about the prison attack (if you have read the comics, I'm not calling what they put on the TV version as an attack, haha) whereas we didn't know about the Governors past legitimately. :zombie02:

If you are a fan of the comic then the novels are at least worth reading imo. Rise of the gov. is the best one so far. Road to woodbury was alright at least we got good character development from Lilly and Martinez. I hope Kirkman continues to do the novels once this trilogy is over. Need a new writer though, sorry Jay but your overuse of adjectives and writing in general sucks.

Can you imagine reading through the part where Michonne tortures The Governor in the novel with Jay's excessive use of adjectives in his writing? *shutters* Haha, on a side note I really did enjoy both novels. Second one...not as much. Rise of the Governor was an excellent read though!

I read both. I loved Rise. I liked Road. I agree that the writing wasn't very good in either book. Very good back story. If Fall is supposed to be what people have posted n here I am more excited now that before. If your a fan of the comic I say give them a read.

I like both, rise explains the gov, and road explains woodbury from lilly's pov. Ihave a theory that the books were originally written as graphic novel scripts by kirkman but fleshed out into novels by bonansinga, I don't know if it holds any weight but the way it's written reminds me of a how a comic script would be altered into a book. Anywho I'm pumped for the fall, now bring on negan's backstory, maybe with a different filler writer.

I thought Rise of the Governor was fantastic. The Road to Woodbury was good, though I did enjoy Rise a lot more. I thought the cast of characters and their story was more compelling in the first book. Without giving anything away, I hated the ending of Road.

A lot of people criticize the writing style of the books. I don't read a lot of novels so I'm not a literary expert and I wasn't judging that very closely. I just read the stories and based my opinion on how interesting they were.

I'm anticipating the third novel in the trilogy. I haven't heard whether it will be from the viewpoint of the Governor, Lilly, or both, but seeing everything from Woodbury's perspective sounds very interesting.

Agree with you. And I am excited for Fall. You didn't notice the excessive use of adjectives? I loved the books even though the writing was terrible. Not sure why Kirkman set the bar sow low with Jay Bosigna.
