Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

I didn't know these books were bad. I never read them and I was planning on getting them from the library one day. Can somebody elaborate why they suck?
Rise of the governor was pretty good, but the road to Woodbury was bleeehhh IMO. There's just a lot of unnecessary, repetitive adjectives in both novels, and the plot is really slow and uninteresting in road to Woodbury, but we are given background on characters and how Woodbury was foemed. Rise of the governor gives some excellent back story on the governor though. Back story= good, overall writing= meh.

The stories are good but the actual writing definitely leaves something to be desired. The plots and characters are good but the actual delivery of the material isn't quite up to par.I didn't know these books were bad. I'm not sure about this though, mostly because its something we know about.
We know about the prison attack (if you have read the comics, I'm not calling what they put on the TV version as an attack, haha) whereas we didn't know about the Governors past legitimately.

A lot of people criticize the writing style of the books. I don't read a lot of novels so I'm not a literary expert and I wasn't judging that very closely. I just read the stories and based my opinion on how interesting they were.
I'm anticipating the third novel in the trilogy. I haven't heard whether it will be from the viewpoint of the Governor, Lilly, or both, but seeing everything from Woodbury's perspective sounds very interesting.

Agree with you. And I am excited for Fall. You didn't notice the excessive use of adjectives? I loved the books even though the writing was terrible. Not sure why Kirkman set the bar sow low with Jay Bosigna.I thought Rise of the Governor was fantastic. The Road to Woodbury was good, though I did enjoy Rise a lot more. I thought the cast of characters and their story was more compelling in the first book. Without giving anything away, I hated the ending of Road.
