So, last episode, we found out that originally Daryl and Merle were going to pillage the quarry group. That brings to mind a couple of questions.

Were Merles antics on the roof in Atlanta simple foolishness or was he trying to draw even more walkers to kill the folks below him in the building? That would have cut the group by a third and weakened them considerably. And Merle's cocky enough that he probably thought he could escape and return on his own.

Will this knowledge put Rick even further over the edge when it comes to trusting future people who want to join the group?

Will it change anyone in the group's attitude towards Daryl or will they still recognize how far he's come and just hate Merle more for it?

Gonna put money down that neither brother will say anything about their earlier intentions so they won't get kicked out. If they do say something, they are as good as gone (at least Merle) because Rick is pretty upset on who he trusts currently.

Good point. Merle's not so good at not spouting off, especially when he feels vulnerable so I'm 50/50 on him blurting it out.

The only way I can see this being revealed would be if Merle is trying to put some doubt in Rick's mind about Daryl. Frankly, with everything that has happened to the group, I would think that it would be a non-issue. Then again, with Rick's current state of mind, it could cause problems with Rick's trust issues.

ETA: I am more likely to think that it will never be brought up again. I think it was mainly just to show Daryl's growth while Merle has remained stagnant.

I can imagine Merle telling Rick if he is somehow mad at Daryl. But I doubt Rick will give it much thought, giving the camping is in the past now and Daryl proved himself a good man.

I dont know if it will be brought up anytime soon but i think Merles actions on the roof were part of the plan to rob the group. He got physical, started pointing his gun around an declared himself "leader". I could totally see him going back to the camp an holding people at gun point while looting the camp with Daryl! I dont think he was trying to bring in walkers to kill everybody in the building tho, that makes it just as hard for him to get away as it does the others an he has just as much of a chance of dying too (although im sure he wouldnt of given a shit if some or all died on the way back to the quarry!! Lol)

That's kinda what I thought and I figured Merle only said it to Daryl to manipulate him into staying w/ him but it was on my mind so I thought I'd ask y'all. I don't really think it would come as a huge shock to the group either, considering all that they know about Merle now.

Edited to add: I agree Dead in Detroit. +1

Nice ideas. Personally, I think that even if Merle tells Rick about it, Rick will dismiss it as something clearly due to the personal influence of Merle on Daryl one year ago.

I dont think that would have any bearing on the groups trust towards Daryl. In those first days they werent treating Daryl very well IMO, they equated him with his brother 2 redneck ignorant guys who really had no allies other than eachother. Fact is Daryl diddnt steal, he helped them out on many occasions and became a valuable second in command who went so far as to look out for Ricks baby when Rick couldnt.
I have a good friend who I absolutley HATED when we met after a while I brought it up to her, I couldnt be her friend and not tell her what I originally thought now we are totally cool.

Some conversations should stay private and some secrets buried forever. The Dixon brothers both know that from long experience. The dialogue was written for OUR benefit and not inevitably for Rick's group to find out. As mentioned it was roughly (by the show's time line) a year ago and a LOT has changed since then. Especially Daryl. Merle on the other hand I think has just gotten smarter as far as the survival aspects of the world they live in. He's learned from Woodbury the value of a secure place, groups of people capable of fighting.

True, DC. I sometimes think we underestimate the ways in which Merle has changed while focusing on Daryl's transformation. Not that Merle has become an angel by any stretch but he has gained wisdom. Now, if we could just teach him basic human decency and respect, he'd be tolerable. I just don't see that happening unless Herschel somehow performs a miracle. And that's about as likely as finding a 'cure' for zombies. :)

Anyway the only ones of the prison group who were going to be stolen are Glenn and Carl... and Carol who by the way I dont see kicking Daryl out. The greenes and the prop with the katana have nothing to do with that. Andrea isn t part of the group anymore and everybody else is dead. (TDog, Lori, Dale, Shane, etc)
It doesnt mean an attack on Ricks personal trust or friendship with Daryl couse it was planned before Ricks arrival to Atlanta.

Along the lines with Carol, I could very well imagine Ed trying to hook up with the Dixon brothers if he found out. And of course, Carol and Sophia would have no choice but to take heist with Ed, Daryl and Merle.

Should the group find out, it'd just be another reason to not trust Merle and to trust Daryl more. However, potential new additions to the group (Tyreese, Sasha, Allen and Ben) may be a bit wary of Merle and even Daryl if they came to this knowledge. I'd be a bit skeptical in that position.

I feel like survival strategies have changed since the initial outbreak. At first, looting would make sense, as time wears on, most areas that could be looted will be cleaned out. All food that's not preserved and that needs refrigeration would be spoiled. so what is even left to steal at this point, and what is there to gain? IMO survival would be easier in a large group. food gathering and farming would inevitably become more necessary, and a larger group would be beneficial. kinda went OT there sorry. So I guess I'm saying, yeah people might be like,"I can't believe you would want to do that" but there is no time to hold grudges in the ZA. I think everyone would get over it, except maybe Glenn, he got a bit dramatic last episode, but I think he's just going through some growing pains

I really don't think either of the brothers will mention it to the group. They are both way too smart to do that, especially with how Rick has been acting lately...

That being said, I would really love to see a flashback of how Daryl and Merle joined up with the group outside Atlanta. I HIGHLY doubt that will happen, but it would be cool.

I doubt Merle will say anything. I may cause division between Daryl and Rick's group, but I doubt it. However, it will cause division between Merle and Daryl. Daryl will not look kindly on Merle sharing. After Daryl's decision to return, I think Merle realizes that would not be wise. Merle knows what to say and what not to. He showed us that with Gargulio and again when he returned with Rick, Daryl and Maggie. When they returned Merle told MIchonne's business, but not Daryl's. Merle knows better, so I doubt he will say anything for fear of losing Daryl, not Rick or the prison. He doesn't care about Rick or the prison. He cares about Daryl.

I could see Merle bringing it up if Rick was kicking him out and Daryl wasn't going to go with him. He may hope that Rick would throw Daryl out with him, or at the very least create a rift between them.

Doubt that will happen because of a short clip that showed Daryl and Merle in the Prison.

Just my 2 cents though.

I had never considered that but I totally agree that Ed would have wanted to be a part of it. Don't know if the old Daryl and Merle would want the baggage a woman, child and obese man would bring but it's interesting to think about. Also, since they were abused as kids, do you think they would look kindly on Ed's abusive actions? Still, interesting point.

Maybe Merle will bring this up at a later time that will ultimately lead to his demise. But I agree, Daryl has grown exponentially since running the streets with his brother. It has made him a much better person and I don't think he'd ever have those intentions again.
