The Walking Dead is a graphic novel, or comic, written by Robert Kirkman, illustrated by Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn, and published by Skybound Comics. It has been published in a variety of different formats, consisting of monthly issues, trade paper-backs, and compendiums.

Walking Dead Issues:

Issues are generally released monthly and contain about 30 pages of story. Six individual issues make up one volume. Find your local comic shop to purchase, or get them digitally from Comixology.

Walking Dead Trade Paperbacks:

Trade paper backs contain one volume, or six issues. They don't contain the original cover art of each issue. These are generally available at brick and mortar stores where you can purchase comics, or online at places like Amazon.

Walking Dead Hardcovers:

Hardcovers contain two volumes, or 12 issues. These editions also include all original covers and sometimes bonus material. Also available at comic book and book stores, or online.

Walking Dead Omnibus Deluxe Hardcovers:

There are also Deluxe Hardcover Editions, or Omnibus Collections, which contain twenty-four issues. These are extremely rare and, in most cases, have been limited to 3,000 print runs.

Walking Dead Compendiums:

Compendiums are a collection of eight volumes or forty-eight issues.

And an extremely rare hard cover version of Compendium One, limited to 1,000 pieces, was also released in 2012 at the Emerald City Comicon and San Diego Comicon.

Very special thanks to the folks that contribute to the Walking Dead Wikia.

Walking Dead Issue Variant Cover Gallery

"EXE.DMG originally approached me about adding a variant cover list to this thread, but later asked that it be removed. Luckily for us, he created his own Walking Dead site, at ReadtheWalkingDead.com, that contains the most complete cover gallery I have ever seen. Please take the time to check out his gallery; I'm sure he put a lot of hours into researching and collecting the images."
