On The 50 Cal Machine Guns

Just as a bit of trivia.

The Saviors have acquired M2 .50 caliber heavy machine guns.

It is a powerful weapon that will bring on a world of hurt to any target it fires on.

BUT!

Unless the Saviors have military veterans who are familiar with the .50, AND have a head space and timing gauge, things will so south quick.

The barrel of a .50 is detachable. Therefore, one much check the "head space" before every firing to make sure the barrel is seated properly into the main part of the weapon.

One can only do this if you 1) know how to properly seat the barrel (not that hard), AND 2) check the seating with a head space and timing gauge.

Easy to check, but without the gauge it cannot be properly checked. If not checked, sooner or later--most likely sooner--the .50 will explode while firing, injuring or killing the operator.

As I said, a bit of trivia! And I doubt the producers even considered this.

I wonder if those raining hell on Ezekiel's team are the same Brownings that Rick asked Todd about that they were expecting to be in that building.

Another bit of trivia:

It is NOT against the Geneva Convention to use a .50 cal against personnel.

When I was in Marine Corps boot camp or infantry school, we were told that it was, by a Marine weapons trainer no less. I learned later that is not true and have always wondered why we were told that.

Kombat: Agree with the Geneva Convention thing. That was the rumor in the Army as well--at least back in the early 80s. It was said that it was ok for us to fire because we were firing at their load bearing equipment! But, as you said, completely false. One of those service rumors that just never dies

Why are they--or at least one of them--even there? Shouldn't they be defending something important, instead of a rickety building overlooking nothing? Which I realize is an outpost, but why is that place so important? And how would they know they'd be attacked from that direction, or that attackers would be milling about in that space?

I suppose they could have placed the gun up there after the battle started. But that brings us back to the original question: what is it doing in that location? If they were preparing to attack the Kingdom and/or expected an attack from the Kingdom, okay. But then why isn't Gavin there to lead it? He's at the Sanctuary.

Aren't those the guns that Rick was searching for and that Todd told him had been moved to Gavin's compound? No idea why they were moved but Daryl won't be happy to learn that it was Ezekiel's group attacking Gavin - with Carol.

It does make sense that Ezekiel should be tasked with attacking Gavin's compound because those Saviors were the ones extorting and menacing the Kingdom and their place is presumably relatively close.
