Not too bothered by it really. At the end of season four Daryl had the walker shield that protected him from automatic rifle fire. Totally unbelievable. I think it adds some humour .
At least this time we didn't have to wait two weeks to find out...That was such a cheesy media play and pissed me off more than anything.

The only thing that really bothered me was the dumpster scene, which was just so heavy handed and over the top unbelievable. We've seen other characters survive impossible situations before and I get that in a show like this. The dumpster scene was just a stupid move by the writers though, and pissed off a huge number of the fan base.

The dumpster fake out was too much though.  I can understand and some what except the ones like the last one.

The only thing that made the dumpster scene different was dragging out the inevitable survival. They're obviously trying to make his death hit really hard. OR they are trying to telegraph his inevitable death and then throw someone else down.

Whether the tactic will work depends on the vast majority of fans who never attend to any fan talk.

Here's a list from another thread I posted. As someone else pointed out, you can add having a pile of walkers on top of him after Nicolas shot him.

1. Kidnapped by Vatos

2. Well-walker

3. Bar escape

3. Tied up by Merle, left in room with walker

4. Seconds from execution (with Maggie) but saved at last minute by Rick and Co.

5. Only one from main cast to contract deadly flu virus.

6. Trapped in tunnel with Tara, saved by Maggie, and Abe's crew.

7. Terminus, almost hit over head with bat 2 or 3 times at the trough.

8. Trapped with Noah in the revolving door.

9. Dumpster save

10. Invisible bullet shield to protect from Abe's machine gun.

As Rick said to the Alexandrians "Luck runs out"  ....

Be honest for those that think the Glenn fake outs are a true issue is it because you know what is likely to come due to the comic source material?  Or are you really just annoyed with the fake outs?

I say this only because my wife watches the show without any prior knowledge and ever fake out has had her on the edge of her seat until he escapes while I just kind of watch her reaction and laugh inside.  The dumpster scene, as a comic reader, was the only time I thought... HOLY SHIT... "they actually did it!" and then could hear Gimple laughing at me as I do to my wife.

It's really not even just me being a comic reader, it's just annoying that they've been doing it so much. 3 times since last seasons finale

It's ridiculous. For me it comes off as a cheap trick to try to get a reaction out of the audience, and it has lost its effect.

And some of the ways they're doing it are so contrived

-Wounded Glenn somehow fights off 3 zombies piled on top of him

-Manages to fall into a mass of zombies and not get eaten or bit even once

-Fuckin stupidly backs himself against a wall in the middle of a shit ton of zombies, but it's okay because Abe and Sasha Ex Machina

Oh don't get me wrong I'm with you on the Glenn escapes of this season.  My point is that I think they are doing it intentionally trying to bring the Comic readers to the same position as the non-comic readers, so they are putting on the brink, if not over, the line of ridiculous.   Otherwise, we would just be watching without reaction; or at least I know I would be.

For instance Abraham, have you felt threats against him yet at all?  This was the first instance where I thought maybe they are changing it up with his character, but it never got close enough for me to be like... oh wow they just did that.

For sake of comparison (for those GoT fans that like to compare) it would be like Jon Snow died in the episode prior to the finale to the King.  That would be a oh shit moment, but every death in GoT is 100% exact to the books.

I'm hoping they kind of change up some moments from the Comic so every time Glenn gets close it makes me "feel it".  I do agree the moments have passed to the point of being annoying, so I get that.  Hopefully, won't happen again.... muwhahaha.

I just don't like it because he can survive easily but other people who have survived just as long get bitten by a walker stuck between a rock or something

They're just doing a shitty gimmick so then it'll be more "shocking" when he's killed off but nobody will really care by that point, I don't think. I know they were trying to make his death more surprising but they kind of just made it more predictable and are gonna ruin it, I think

Imagine a group of a hundred motorcycles driving down a freeway. Eventually, they hit a junction. One road goes northwest and the other goes northeast. So one guy, we'll call him S, says, "Let's go northwest!" A mile past the intersection, a semi careens into the group and kills ninety of them. Ten are wounded, but they survive and keep going. Eventually, they hit 10,000 miles. S suddenly has his consciousness thrown into his past body right before the junction. Now, he says, "Let's go northeast!" All 100 bikers survive. Happily ever after, right? But what about the ten, no nine, who went northwest and survived? What happens to the reality they were living? Does it just disappear now that S has changed the past? It's not like only bad things happened on that 10,000 mile journey. Maybe one of them fell in love with a gas station attendant and got her pregnant or maybe one adopted a homeless kid that joined the adventure. That 10,000 mile journey would be full of stories. Romances, farewells, friendships...the loss of those ninety lives is horrible and unfortunate, but what would rewriting their history mean? The nine who survived lived full lives and did the best they could with the hand they were dealt. How could it be right to just erase all that? Isn't that worth something? Is there a point to a world where everything is happy? Are people who struggle for a better life just idiots? Being human is about fighting even when it seems hopeless and finding happiness in a world that hates it. Are you saying that's worthless?

To me it isn't just Glenn's fake out, but he cumulative effect of numerous fake outs over time.

Remember Andrew in season 3? Carol in season 3?  Martin in season 5? Basically anyone that you didn't actually see ripped apart and/ or ripped opened turns up alive.

They had done it numerous times before the Glenn thing, so to me there was no doubt what was happening which made it predictable.

However,  I don't see what happened to Glenn in No Way Out as a death fake out.  To me that was more of a close call, which of course is totally believable when the place is being overrun by so many walkers.

I despised the dumpster thing so much that I made a thread about it and wondered whether or not it would have a negative, long-term effect on the show.

And I  still do wonder, actually.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the mid-season opener, but even as I was watching it, I couldn't stop  thinking that A LOT of time had been wasted in the lead up to it.

"No Way Out" was the mid-season finale that we had to wait an extra three months to see.

Shield yourself from those not bound to you by steel, for they are the blind. Aid them when you can, but lose not sight of yourself.

Deadpelican, I'm with you that the death "fake out" from last week seemed more like a close call.  If you watch the episode you can see the headlights of the fuel truck that Daryl, Abraham and Sasha hit the wall right behind Glenn.  I knew right then that they were coming and that Glenn was going to be okay.

For all the posters saying that the number of times that the writers have given Glenn a fake death with cause them to not care at all when/if he does die, all I can say is if he gets the same death as he does in the comics, EVERYONE WILL CARE.

The rifles where firing dum-dum ammunition which disintegrates inside the body of target Daryl had observed the fall of shot and effects and deduced this thereby used a walker shield to get within grenade range.  Plot hole solved

So how have the Japanese managed to live so long?

The Japanese diet is the iPod of food, it concentrates the magnificent energy of food into a compact and pleasurable size.

Some physicians point to a trend of longevity thanks to a host of meals that carry a low long-term risk of stomach cancer or arteriosclerosis, like tofu, konbu seaweed, squid and octopus

Unbelievable, yes, but not a fakeout. We weren't led to believe the zombie shield wouldn't work, though common sense tells us it probably wouldn't. Also, that was Daryl saving himself. We were led to believe Glenn was sacrificing himself for Maggie, who somehow needed help to save herself from the platform she wasn't really stuck on. Without divine intervention, in the form of Abe and Sasha, he was a goner.

Which wouldn't be so bad. It's just that they keep doing it over and over again with this one character. Enough already.

My theory is that the PTB plan to have Glenn meet his demise in a way very similar to how it occurred

in the comics. (which I BTW, have not read) And I think they know that a good number of fans expect

this. Therefore, in the meantime they may as well pile on his plot armour nice and thick, and have some

fun exploring all the close-calls they can think of for ol' Glenn, until it's time to implement his planned

death.

I just hope that (if) when Glenn bites the big one its not in some stupid way like getting an infection from a stubbed toe or something.

Ha, man I actually think this would be epic.  Glenn dies falling off a wall or some shit, or even better 1 just 1 walker takes him down in his sleep or something.  That would just be amazing to me if they pulled that off.. ... but i couldn't imagine the RAGE on here if that were to occur.

I feel that when they do finally kill Glenn off, at that point we will all be desensitized to it and it won't feel as bad as it should. I'd hate to see such a great character like Glenn go but enough is enough already.

Im not so sure about that--cuz you know, it can also work the other way....

we can get so USED to Glenns almost magic ability to escape death,

that  we actually become conditioned to it, start taking it for granted even....

where the threat of a dangerous scrape just doesnt affect us.

"Oh here we go again...." we think while rolling our eyes. Then....WHAM!

He dies in some hideous way....maybe even screaming in agony.

Are we really not going to care, or at that point are we in for the emotional

shock of our (TWD)  lives!? Just sayin.....

No. Glenn is a daring individual who puts himself in harms way for the good of the group. He is the groups "Supply Runner" and scout too so to speak. So he is always going to be in vicarious situations.

I don't have a problem with Glen in the same way that I never worried about Kirk or Picard in star trek dying, or Castle dying on that show or Gibbs in NCIS dying or whatever show. Most shows don't really kill off main characters even when they are in bad situations. The fun for me is seeing how they escape.

I don't really like Glenn, I was one of the few who actually believed the ridiculous dumpster fakeout - and I was genuinely glad that they had killed him off. Would have been a creative way to have him go, and open up further creative opportunities. Instead I was wrong, a human body can miraculous fit under a dumpster and Glenn is going to die the same way we all know by now. Unfortunate.

In regards to this latest fakeout - it was the cheapest by far. When ingrid climbs the wall to go help maggie - she walks on that catwalk structure which is in no danger of being torn down by walkers. So why doesn't Maggie just get up on that and let the walkers tear down that rickety platform? Why does Glenn have to position himself in a corner to "distract" walkers from tearing down maggie's platform? Lastly - they could redeemed themselves with the Abe/Sasha covering fire rescue if they had just taken single quick shots instead of blasting away on full auto. I could believe that Abe and Sasha are skilled enough shots to snipe 20 or so walkers in quick succession... but to just spray and pray with Glenn right int he mix? Sad. Cmon TWD. It's the LITTLE things that make a great show.
