I would have been too suspicious. No way I'm trusting water from a stranger.
And besides, I've watched enough Bear Grylls and Survivorman, to know how to boil the suspicious water (or sewage or mud or urine...)to collect the steam for safe drinking water. I won't get that desperately thirsty.)

I'd have let Eugene drink it, then collect it all without anyone else drinking. If he's willing to be our guinea pig, that's fine. After 8 or so hours, I'd feel safe drinking it as long as Eugene is showing no ill effects.
Of course, that's assuming every bottle is the exact same. Some could be poisoned, others not.

Every member of the group, no mater how small, is important and needed. The group needs it members and shouldn't use certain ones as testers for possible traps. The group was thirsty, not dying of thirst. Its the mid east of North America, not the Sierra desert.
You can die from dehydration anywhere. We have no idea how long it has been since they had water.

I agree with Serenity that I would be more worried about the water being roofied for varied reasons. I probably would've let Eugene go ahead and drink the water and wait an hour before taking any myself. I don't think many could walk passed the water and leave it behind with the way they were at that moment.

Speaking of this, is anyone else getting messed up by the seasons? Like when Michonne, Rick and Carl were en route to Terminus, it was fall, judging by the foliage and all the leaves on the ground. A month or two later, and further north, and we're walking in the hot Virginia sun...
Have we forgotten that the zombies cut the grass? I guess they don't bag, mulch, or rake

I'm already a very cautious person. You should see how far back I stand before crossing the street because I just don't trust the other drivers. I would really wonder what strings were attached to this "gift". Or what leash will be up my azz if I take it. The group made the right call not to drink the water. It would really suck if they drank poisoned water minutes before it rained.

I said possibly but I think it is a very tough call because we don't actually know how dehydrated they were. Serenity hit the nail on the head though. I would have been afraid that the water was drugged. Terminus is not that long ago and they fell for it once. Fortunately, it rained within seconds of Eugene grabbing the cheese so nobody had to find out.
My guess is the water was fine based on the introduction of the "a friend" character. But, not knowing anything about him the fact that he is well dressed and clean makes me suspicious right away. He must be part of a group that is nearby because he would not be lugging all that water around with him otherwise. And of course, they are going to be bad guys. What else is there in this show?

It could be more of the same, but it could be the complete opposite. They were naive and trusting about Terminus and it nearly cost them their lives. It would almost be amusing if this time they were like "Nope, not falling for this again!" and then the final scene of the episode showed Aaron going back to his well stocked, totally trustworthy group in a veritable fortress and saying "Well, I tried but they shot me down."...and then they all sit down for a nine course meal while watching a movie and enjoying the air conditioning.

As to how long it's been, after a rewatch of the episode, it was said it had been a day and a half since their water reserves and food had dried up.

I really, really, really doubt that any of the bottles or containers were sealed. I just cannot see anyone coming across sealed bottled water this late in the game.

At the very least you know you are being watched. I didn't get the impression that this dawned on them. I take the water go into the woods and set up a base camp then set a perimeter to find out who is watching me. They spend the energy to dig graves, but won't spend it to dig in a moist creek bed for water? At the least I would boil the water and collect the steam condensation. I would walk away from this group.

Don't you think it would be incredibly obvious to whomever is watching if they set up camp in the woods? Besides which, they can't stop, because they have no food or water. They dug in the creek bed and came up with zilch. And while boiling may kill bacteria, it will not purify the water or condensation from poisons. So, they good news is, you won't need to walk away - you've already killed the group

People who are saying they would let Eugene drink it and see what happens are crazy. Judith is much smaller and would react to poison MUCH quicker than a full grown man with a mullet.
Are you suggesting that they test the water on Judith? I can assure you that no one in this group would even fathom that idea.
